I thought Gaga's acting was fantastic as well. I really liked Mr. March and thought it was really refreshing to have Evan play a totally different character than the teenage heartthrob. The Halloween episode was fantastic w/ all the serial killers and having the guy play John Wayne Gacy and put on his clown costume was a great tribute to Twisty (he was the same actor too).

 

One thing I really liked about Hotel were the details on everything. Especially on the set and the costumes. Everything just looked so real and complete.

 

And yeah, the intros are always the absolute best. All of them have been amazing and that's the thing I've missed the most from this season's format. Tonight episode 3 airs and I cannot f*cking wait.

Speaking of Lady GaGa, we get to see her for more than 3 seconds this episode. It was a change of pace from the past two episodes, and it kept me interested throughout. I'm sastified with this format, it is giving good actors/actresses plenty of screen time and there isn't a lot going on that would otherwise take away from the main plot.

 

 

 

Loved the new episode. this show is going in the right direction with this approach. I feel like the acting is spot on, and the story is addicting.... and even more good news they renewed for season 7.

Just watched the second episode. I'm really digging this season. The show is trying to finally implement true horror into the show, which is something they've lacked for me.

This. I really love demon/ghost horror a la The Conjuring and so far i really dig this season too. Really loved the first 4 seasons especially Freakshow but they weren't scary. Really hated last season and stopped watching halfway.

whenever he was walking in the tunnels and his face flickered to a skeleton/ghost face type of effect was pretty god damn cool, and weird. This was probably one of my favorite episodes of this entire series. It's gruesome, and pretty blunt about the story. Although, next weeks episode looks like it's going to be a paranormal activity/Blair witch/Cloverfield type of show, with it being a first person camcorder type of view...We also get the Mott family connection with Edward Mott and Dandy Mott from Freak Show. Interesting little tidbits they throw out.

I'm really liking this season so far, but I'm not sure what to think about the "twist" of the last episode. It's a bit... cheesy? lol. Like I know it was a completely generic ghost story at first but they were making it really spooky with the reenactment, now it's like all that darkness is washed away and all the horror we'll see from now on will just be gratuitous gore because we kinda know who all the ghosts are and why they come back and what they do.

 

It's completely unrealistic that the real couple would ever go back there if their story was true, and it was kinda an unnecessary spoiler to tell everyone that "all but one person dies, this is just found footage". Maybe this reveal should have been left until later on? I'm not sure. It makes me wonder what story this season is actually trying to tell, so I'm expecting more twists for sure. There's like 6/7 episodes left so surely we won't just be spending that time wondering which crazy motherf*cker it is who'll be left for whatever reason and if it ties back to another season.

 

I'm definitely not hating it though, I really like how they are shooting it and how they are bringing everyone together; it's been much more interesting than Hotel for me. I'm just really curious now to see if different actors from past seasons will be playing the "real" versions of the ghosts who visit the house, since the ones we saw in the first half of the season were the "actors".

The house gives me the Murder House feeling. Shelby wants to go back, to reunite with Matt (maybe die there together so they can be together forever?), Lee stated she wanted to clear her name. Matt didn't say sh*t about why he came back, he seems pretty sure they are going to die, so my guess would be that Matt wants to see/be with the witch again, since they had quite the connection.

 

Ryan Murphy has said things will change again, saying something along the lines that the last two episodes will be different than the rest of the season.

The gratuitous "behind the scenes" production trope is killing it for me and the horrible fake accents are making it a chore to watch. It's like sh*tty low effort found footage horror, now. Did they just run out of original ideas? Hopefully it's just bait for the next twist.

I also thought the twist was super weird. I was actually more interested in the first portion of the story, and I really wanted to learn more about the Motts.

 

I do think this episode was bait for later twists, because

Rory literally died one episode in. I thought that was f*cking weird, and I don't think they're gonna be like "okay this main character's dead, bye". My guess is he'll probably come back as a ghost or something.

 

 

Also, I hate Sarah Paulsen's English accent! I thought that was so unnecessary and even though I love her I think the accent is terrible. I thought her character was just messing around when she first spoke in the booth.

Honestly, this is my favorite season so far surpassing even Coven. I've enjoyed the previous seasons, but this is the first one to feel like an actual horror story. I was especially disappointed by Hotel, which I was expecting to be a lot closer to The Shining but instead was basically vampires with a happy sappy ending (seriously, I f*cking hated how the last episode basically wrapped up with "and they all lived existed happily ever after"). I wouldn't say any part of Roanoke has been particularly scary, but I have been on the edge of my seat a few times. I totally understand the complaints about the original survivors returning to the house, but I think Shelby and Matt's reasonings make sense (Matt's especially after tonight's episode). Lee, on the other hand... am I really expected to believe she would risk orphaning her daughter just to prove her innocence? sh*t, even without her the show would have proven it. Still, not a big enough deal to break my suspension of disbelief.

 

So anyone have any guess as to who the lone survivor might be? I'm thinking either Lee or Shelby, and between the two I'd bet on Lee the most. I feel like the sh*t with her leg is a red herring to make us think it's already too late for her, when in fact she's going to be the only one to survive.

Today I watched the full season of American Horror Story Asylum and it was amazing. I saw a clip of a scene from Asylum on Instagram and I realized I didn't had much to do today so I just watched it. It was really good, I can't even describe how good it was. Even though Lady Gaga was amazing in Hotel. I do think that Asylum is better. I really look forward watching the other seasons, someone told me to watch Freakshow after this one so I guess I will be watching that next.

It seems like they're reverted back to cheap scares (excessive gore, torture, screaming, and crying).

 

The "seasoning", and "tenderizing", of Lee's leg before they... cooked her, was certainly disturbing. I'm not sure if I'm going to be liking the remainder of the episodes, it's just too excessive for me. What started out as a promising and strong season, suddenly reverted back to an overused formula.

I'm definitely looking forward to the finale now. I figured she'd be the survivor, but I didn't think it would go down like this. I really wonder how the court case will go; obviously she's guilty for her husband's murder, but can we really blame her for the others?

This is the shortest season yet, kinda bummed out but I think this season has been different and entertaining. I'm curious what kind of "horrors" will await us for the final episode. It kind of implied that it's going to be Lee's trial and interview by Lana Winters. I really hope they don't kill off Winters with some cheesy death like Queenie in Hotel.

After seeing the finale, I stand by what I said before: this is my favorite season so far. It seems like I'm the only person that feels this way, and I can understand the complaints, but after how disappointing Hotel was this was the perfect way to get me fully back on board. I think it did a great job of mixing the horror with the comedy, and it nailed the balance perfectly. In comparison, I feel like the previous seasons had too much comedy and not enough horror. And again, in comparison to Hotel, I think this finale was fantastic. I absolutely despise Hotel's finale, it's one of the worst TV show finales I can think of, and a big part of it is the fact that it tried to be a happy ending. This one wasn't happy and it damn sure didn't try to be, and I'm glad.

 

I can't wait to see their plans for the next season.

Pat this is definitely one of my favorite seasons, it's entirely different from any other season and I appreciate that. I like the connection it made with Lana Winters, was low key pissed because I thought they killed her.

 

 

I loved the fact this season broke the camera immersion the last minutes of the show. It wasn't a happy ending, but for me, a very satisfying one. The land of Roanoke and the character Flora has a lot of potential in the coming seasons.

 

Damn shame we didn't get to see the cops get slaughtered.... and not a proper intro, I will forever be salty about there not being a intro.

after sleeping on it a few things bothered me.

 

a. how in the actual f*ck does the jury find Flora's side of the story unbelievable once she said she was with Priscilla? I'm pretty sure the lady sad something along the lines of not believing her "ghost stories" when they just f*cking watched multiple ghost kill people and a creepy ass witch. I didn't understand that at all.

 

b. it never explained what's up with the witch feeding Lee a heart and making her turn into a lethargic murderer. Is it a 5 hour murdering heart? Is it a spell?

 

c. why did the Polk guy shoot everyone who got in his way, but decided to stop as soon as he seen the person he went there to kill? how in the hell did he not get arrested or have that house seized?

There were some good creepy scenes scattered throughout but for the most part, this season was just way too far up its own ass to be enjoyable. Gore and trash TV and loathsome characters. Probably the laziest, most thrown together season yet.

Just got finished watching the last few episodes last night. I agree with everything you said Pat.

 

Yes it was cliché as f*ck but was still enjoyable for what it was, I thought it was well-made and well-acted and episode 9 was really gripping. Even though I wasn't sure of it at the beginning, I couldn't say anything too negative about it because we've still had 6 seasons now of quite different themes, so as far as all the others go, this has to stand up there as one of the good ones, even if the bare bones of it was just another ghost story.

 

I know they wanted to go full immersion with the documentary style, but I definitely did miss the opening theme. I also thought it was strange how most of the main cast didn't return at all after they got killed, like when they did the Paleyfest segment, I realised for most of the latter end of the season we really missed out on usual regulars like Kathy Bates and Evan Peters. Lady Gaga was obviously missing as well since her big part last season, but I guess she was too busy making her new album. Angela Bassett and Adina Porter as Monay and Lee were really strong though, and Sarah Paulson is my goddess, even though her English accent and constant screaming were just awful at times

I just binged the last four episodes. It's not as bad as I've heard. I thought it was pretty good despite it's found footage flaws. Why does a hillbilly growhouse have cameras rigged up everywhere? Why does each character decide to pick up a camera when their life is in danger?

 

Anyway, it was good horror and a fun satire of sh*tty ghost hunters shows.

 

That said, I hope they stop the gimmicks for season 7. No emo music video sh*t. No found footage. Just good writing and acting with a camera pointed at it.

 

Edit: I was really hoping Lady Gaga would appear in the end, as herself playing the actor who played the witch.

Scrolled past all the posts on this page cos spoilers. Seriously though...I just finished episode 4 and boy did I struggle to get through most of it.

 

What the hell is this bullsh*t? Sarah Paulson's voice is like a nail on a chalk board when she whines and screams. I'm not a fan of this season so far but I'm determined to make it to the end cos I want to give it a chance.
