GTA III was a revolution in terms of gameplay and GTA IV was a minor step back. People make excuses for IV being hampered by having to build a game from scratch. III had the same issue but still had fun side missions like rampage, taxi, and paramedic missions. It wouldn't have been hard to add those in. It was a design choice to make the game realistic. I'd trade dating, bowling, darts, drinking, etc to get a real tank in GTA IV. GTA III didn't get rid of ammu-nation and police bribes just to be realistic. It had a flame thrower. Seriously, it wouldn't have been hard to design a flamethrower in GTA IV since they already had molotovs. GTA III was outrageous fun. They lost a lot that with the design choices and story they told in IV. I thought it was good story, just not right for a GTA game in my opinion. I even like the map design and radio stations better in GTA III. Not that I dislike GTA IV, but I still occasionally play GTA III on my phone. I haven't played IV in years. For people like you that didn't enjoy IV, I think there is a huge oppurtunity for you to have been grabbed by the hype & have set yourself up for disappointment. If you didn't like IV, but are expecting to blow your load over V, you could be in for disappointmentings. Then there are people like me, that still crew up with guys online on IV. We grab a few Sanchez's & enjoy the map (maybe kill a few fools). But honestly, GTA V could just be GTA IV but with the map of Los Santos & I'd still sh*t my pants enjoying it. tl;dr Yeah, you might think it's shyte bro. I mean I know it will be a lot of people who will complain about it no matter what, but so far with what they have showed us...with all we can do, see, buy, etc...I don't see a reason to be disappointed. It seems to be an improvement to the series not a disappointment. It looks like they have taken all what they have learned from their previous games and combined them in V to give us the best gta gaming experience they can. GTA IV may have influenced GTA V's development and it could very well turn out to be disappointing like IV was. Lets start by saying that IV's story was very weak and the missions were way too repetitive. For most missions, you would go from point A to point B to kill your target. All you did was kill, kill, kill unlike San Andreas' missions which were very diverse and interesting to do. The driving was very weird and you can't customize your vehicles. You also can't purchase properties and own businesses. The weapons were also lacking in IV. Rockstar took out the over the top weapons such as the chainsaw, flamethrower, minigun, etc. The graphics weren't that great. It felt blurry and the lighting was off. There also wasn't as many interiors as in past GTA games such as malls, clubs (minus TBOGT), 24/7s, ammu-nations, police stations, casinos, etc. There was almost nothing to do when you finish IV. San Andreas has so much side stuff to do such as parachuting, driving monster trucks, robbing houses, gambling in casinos, hotring racing, exploring the wilderness outside the city, turf wars, causing chaos with army vehicles such as tanks and hydras, etc. Point is, GTA IV was a major step back in the series and very disappointing. Hopefully GTA V won't go this route. I'm losing hope for GTA V seeing how bad IV was. Rockstar messed Grand Theft Auto up big time with this generation. Hopefully they can get back on track with the next generation of consoles. *Give me your opinion why GTA V won't suck. Want my opinion why GTA V won't suck? R* is not ashamed to overhype or even lie about features/mechanics. I just hope the planning feels like planning and the heists aren't too scripted. If the cops show up every time, I'll get bored pretty quickly with the missions. I just want real challenge and not the forced sh*t R* likes to give us sometimes. But I honestly think that Rockstar North is doing a tremendous job on Grand Theft Auto V and I'm impressed very much with it in fact. It is possibly going to be my favorite new Grand Theft Auto title since Grand Theft Auto IV, really. It was easy to be disappointed by GTA 4, look at San Andreas, the map was incredible and huge, not to mention really fun and colorful, GTA 4 was a huge step backwards in terms of gameplay features, there just wasn't enough to do and the map sucked compared to San Andreas. will_owen Posted August 9, 2013 Share Posted August 9, 2013 In my view this is the sole reason I'v been so excited for GTA V before anything was even announced about it because IV was a great game but did disappoint me a bit as it lacked the fun side, however it nailed the realism side and so I knew when they added the fun back in for V it would be the perfect balance between the two. They know what we want and from the looks of it, they added the fun/customization from san andreas + improved the graphics from GTA IV... so in other words it will possibly be perfect and another 10/10 on gamespot.com Also did anyone forget that GTA V HAS BEEN IN DEVELOPMENT FOR 5 YEARS. I loved the content of SA & I loved the realism of IV, and V is combining both those gameplay aspects and then some. Sure, V will disappoint some people. Most of those people will be from this forum. Some people expect GTAO to be this huge MMORPG with servers that allow you to buy property & sh*t like that... No. Some people expect another large city... No. Bottom line, although GTAV will surpass the majority's expectations, there will always be those "Hopeful Harrys" that expect things from the game that aren't even technically possible on current gen.
