nuer
They should paid for it and not just take it. If you went and register domain and then big company make a game, movie, or whatever with same name would you be happy that they would take it? Of course not! He bought that domain in 2008. He obviously knew that Rockstar were going to make another GTA game so he was just looking for attention. His fault he took it...he probably didn't even use it for anything at all. Talib
He bought the domain, whether he bought it before they registered the trade mark plays a role in whether they should pay for it like you should, or just take it like assholes.

Look at XboxOne.com, which was registered in 2002 and they simply took it... You pay year after year for domain just so one company can take it? It just doesn't seem fair. Rockstar never had rights to the title 'GTA V' until they made it in 2011, and just took it. It seems now Rockstar aren't letting this same incident happen for a while, they've registered domains up to GTA VIII (8).

Lol, you are making it sound like he actually cares about that website. Last time he updated was 2012...which redirected to V's real website. Take-Two just want to make sure that he doesn't change it to some sort of porn site which could hurt their reputation. If that person was actually using that website for his own..I would agree with you in every way..but that isn't the case here.

StillKronic
Honestly who cares. GTAV.COM already forwards to Rockstars V website. And every other URL rockstar has (like gtaiv.com) just forwarded you to rockstar.com/iv I don't see the big deal. It's not going to be a new website. It will stay exactly as it is. They will just be the owners of the domain...

BlademanX
Grand Theft Domain? Lol seriously i don't think this has anything to do with the website launch. They've been after that website for an entire year, by now we'd already have the GTAV Website.. Something tells me they'll have to just use a new domain name, which I hope they do so they don't have to pay this twat for the website. Why is he a twat?? He was smart, the guy is set to make a lot of money.....They should have registered 10 domains back in 1999 if they were really smart, NOT wait until the game is in development before chasing up domains.... Any smart company would know this, Purchase the domains now, Including GTAVI to 10 or whatever.

You can't simply take over something because someone can do something. You can kill somebody thus police can lock you up? Take-Two shouldn't go to court for this, and even then they shouldn't win. saintsrow
Just because they have the money and power, doesn't mean it's right to do so. Because corporate lawyers. Doing right's got nothing to do with it. There have been cases where publishers will get injunctions again fansites, even / especially the most sincere and best-intentioned ones, if the content gets too close to causing brand confusion. So even if this guy is a superfan and just links to Rockstar's GTAV page as a favor, it causes problems (in corporate lawyers' minds) if the average Joe Public might think that the website is a Rockstar site. Also, as people above stated, Rockstar would not have control over it. Lawyers will not allow such a loophole. So they could do the right thing and negotiate a fair price. The guy is just lucky he didn't grab a domain with the name of a popular Disney movie. His remains would already be scattered across three states. OysterBarron
Rockstar I'm ashmed of you! I can understand them going down this route if the owner of gtav.com was just sitting on the website to piss them off. But the fact of the matter is that he was using it as a blog previously for gtav info and also has it listed up for sale now. So stop being tight rockstar and bloody buy it off him
