I wish!

So does everyone!

Glad to see you finally got your sports car man!

Welcome back dude. As you can see, there have been some changes'round here...

I actually meant the V2 board and stuff, but yeah, that too.

My car is in the garage again, this time getting my brake calipers painted yellow and getting a mesh installed in front of the forward radiators because I'm sucking in a lot of junk without a mesh. Also getting my NA rear bumpers removed.

It'll take just over a week for everything to be done and I had planned it for when I was away on business so I wouldn't have any downtime without the car, but this trip was cut short and I'll be home tomorrow which means I'll be without the car until next Friday/Saturday.

aw shucks.

no Porsche?

guess you'll just have to resort to taking the private jet ;)

I personally would have chosen red calipers over yellow. But I guess yellow calipers with a black car and black rims is a Porsche staple.

I would've gone for red as well but after looking at a lot of other 911s with red calipers, I decided to go with yellow to make them stand out more as the red really blended in and was hard to see on a black-on-black paint scheme.

EDIT: Heres what it looks like at the moment. Getting my NA style bumpers taken off and having the holes patched back up to get it back to Euro spec. You'll also notice my calipers have been taken off for painting. My K&N Air Filters should arrive in a month or so and then I'm seriously considering IPD Plenums. Once all that's in, I'm getting a GIAC ECU tune. Hopefully this'll bring me close to the 400bhp mark.

Still think it's crying out for either a ducktail or a GT3 style wing.

I think I'm going to leave all body mods for after I've gotten the performance stuff out of the way. I think the car looks pretty sleek as it is and I don't want to do too much in terms of aesthetics too quickly lest I get bored of it. Problem with adding a spoiler is that I'm also going to need a new front lip to equally distribute downforce. I do still think the ducktail looks the nicest and most subtle out of all the wing designs offered on 997s though. Other spoilers like the GT3 wing just won't look right without an aerokit to make the rest of the car just as aggressive-looking to match.

@epoxi: left light is sitting on top of my wheels, can't really see it in the picture though

Everything was done sooner than the conservative estimate given by the shop so I was able to pick it up around dinner time today. One thing I forgot to take a picture of was the centre cap wheel cover because I had my original Porsche ones painted a matte black to match the rims. I'll get a picture of it tomorrow during the day but I think it looks absolutely fantastic. The gold on the Porsche wheel cap emblem really meshes well with the yellow calipers, and with everything all black it gets a little boring so it's nice to have a little variation. All thats left to do are the air filters, IPD plenum, quad tips, and finally a GIAC ECU remap. I'd say everything should be on within the next 3 months.

I like to hang out at the garage occasionally in my spare time just to chat with the guys there, have some coffee and also play with the cars they have round front. All in all a very pleasant place to hangout.

Unfortunately not as someone had already bought it, but had yet to pick it up. Sat in it and got a feel for the cabin though, which is the next best thing I guess..I believe it was a MY2012 with only 6,000km on the odo so still pretty much brand new.

They get a lot of cars like that coming in and out all the time. I believe that's the third 458 they've sold in the past couple of months which is pretty impressive considering Taiwan only gets allocated something like 70 cars from Maranello per year.

Yep

EDIT: I was on my way out when I made this post so I didn't have enough time to compose a proper response. Anyway, yes I am still thinking of getting a Lambo but in about 2 years where I can snag one for half what they're going for now. Since the LP610 was unveiled, owners have started offloading their LP560s and prices have already plummeted from half a year ago. From when I first started looking, used LP560s were at around the USD400,000 mark and now they've dropped to about USD220,000. Looking at market data it isn't inconceivable that they'll drop to between USD140,000-160,000 in the next few years and that's when I'll pounce.

Got my quad tips installed, love the way the car looks compared to stock.

Only things left now are:

- Air Filters

- IPD Plenum

- ECU Remap

Air filters won't arrive until the end of April at the latest and I'll be placing my order for the plenum at the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Hopefully I'll get the plenum and air filters at around the same time and once they're both on I'll be getting an ECU remap to take advantage of all the extra bits and bobs I've got on so far.

When everything is finished you have to do some kind of first person drive around video.

Thats called a POV video. And i agree with that idea. I like when people dont modify their cars very intensly, but only in a certain degree, that it looks different, but no too much.

@gtamann: I've toyed with the idea of hiring a professional photographer & videographer to take some pictures/make a video of me and the car if the cost were not too high, I would do it myself but I have none of the necessary skill sets to do so. I have a GoPro but editing the footage into something cool like the stuff you see on their website is damn near impossible for me. If worst comes to worst I'd just borrow my mum or my girlfriends SLR camera to try and get some looking pictures. My GoPro should be more than sufficient for a PoV video though, but gotta find a nice scenic route to do the drive as I doubt you'd want to see my morning commute in trafffic lol.

IPD Plenum has been paid for and it should be on it's way to me now. Looks like I'll have the plenum in before my air filters arrive. Pretty ridiculous how long it's taking to get the air filters as they won't arrive until the end of the month (estimated). Once both plenum and air filters are in then it's time for an ECU tune.

Starting to look at aerodynamic parts now (ie. spoiler/wing, front lip) for added downforce and stability at higher speeds.

I still don't know whether I prefer the ducktail or proper RSR/Cup style wing on narrow-bodied cars:

I used to prefer the ducktail but these days I think I'm leaning towards the Cup style wing.

I personally prefer the Ducktail. The full wing on a small road car looks a little "try hard" if you ask me. But that's just my opinion. And I think Ducktails and Whaletails are just iconic to Porsche.

I think the wing would be a bit too much. The ducktail looks nice, though.

ducktail looks way nicer.

classy.

the GT style wing is cheesy as f*ck. it looks like ass on most cars...

...assuming you're not actually using it for hardcore downforce in an actual touring event.

if it's just your daily driver, ducktail is the way to go.

Just been made to eat my words over the air filters as I've just been told that they've arrived. Looks like all I'm waiting for now is the plenum and then an ECU tune.

Between the ducktail and cup wing, I obviously like the ducktail as it's more subtle and a throwback to Porsche history as gtamann mentioned, but at the same time I like the way the GT3 wing looks when you look at it from the front quarter of the car, sideways it just looks weird. The cup wing is just too much.

I had a very unconventional idea of not having a wing or spoiler but instead having this rear diffuser. Would that rear diffuser + front lip still be able to create enough downforce to stabilize the car at higher speeds?

Possibly but you might need a section of the floorpan either side of the diffuser fitted with a flat undertray to avoid messing up the airflow. The more of the underside you can get flat the better.

I'd think a diffuser by itself would look a little odd. I'd throw a ducktail on there. Full-on Cup or even just GT3 RS wings only look good on widebody cars.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've started looking more at different sorts of wings and seeing which one would fit the car better but in the meantime I've had my air filters fitted and the ipd plenum arrived today. I can probably have the plenum installed sometime next week and then I can get the GIAC ECU remap once thats in. I've also thought about changing my spark plugs and I was wondering if there would be any benefits to doing so? If I were to change my spark plugs should I do that before or after ECU remap?
