Outcast
Yeah good choice. At least you got your 997 to keep you busy until then Yeah, and to be honest it's a really great car. Obviously it doesn't have the sort of power like you get in the R8 or Ferraris and Lambos, but as an all rounder I couldn't ask for more. It does everything I ask of it and never lets me down. As a daily driver, Porsche really have hit the nail on the head. EDIT: Just checked FedEx and my exhaust parts are now in Anchorage and I assume it's a straight flight from there to their sorting station in Asia, wherever that is. Hopefully they'll arrive early next week! Edited February 1, 2014 by Outcast gtamann123

Outcast
Got my exhaust installed today. EDIT: I tried taking some before and after videos but after playing them back I couldn't hear much of a difference in the recordings. It is definitely louder and a lot more aggressive though with the X-Pipes and Fabspeed Maxflo Mufflers. The biggest difference is starting the engine up. It used to be just a little louder than your average car but now when I turn the key, you can hear me across the parking lot. El Dildo
It used to be just a little louder than your average car but now when I turn the key, you can hear me across the parking lot. oh boy that's so cool. the first major impression I got after installing true-duals on the Firebird was every pet animal in the neighborhood turning on me. when I start the ignition and someone is walking their dog nearby, the owner and the dog will jump (like clockwork) and look in my direction. now they all bark at my car when I turn onto our street and chase the rumble down the road until they run out of yard space or hit the end of their leash. take some finished pics! Outcast
Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Unfortunately I didn't get a finished shot as excitement took over and we lowered it immediately to hear the sound. I'll get some pics of it when it's back on the lift for new wheels/tires at the end of the month.
Outcast
Work Wheels Brombachers arrived today and had them installed. I was supposed to get Michelin Pilot Super Sports but they wouldn't have arrived until the end of February so I got some Pirelli P-Zeros instead. They told me I could use them for now and switch over to the Michelin PSS when they arrive at no extra cost. Heres some pictures including the exhaust as I didn't get a finished picture last time. I also stashed the factory set of wheels in my H2 which is in the shop for repairs (tachometer stopped working), so I wouldn't have to lug them back and forth. I'll be bringing my old set back with me when I pick up the H2 after it's fixed. AZAZEL, epoxi and El Dildo

Lurch
Looks pretty damn good. I'd say P-zeros are right on part with the Michellins anyway. Probably slightly more expensive, actually. They're the OEM tire for most exotics. Edited February 20, 2014 by Lurch Outcast

Outcast
Thanks for the positive feedback guys, I'm glad you like it! As I've mentioned in the Car Talk Topic, my next mod will be the suspension and I'll be going either with the lowering springs or Bilstein coilovers. After that I think I'm done with exterior/visual mods. I've also got some K&N air filters on order. What else can I do to the car?
sivispacem
I'd look at KW for coilovers too. They use the top spec Bilstein stuff at the basis for then but tend to use custom progressive spring rates along with other tweaks. Had a couple of sets and they've been miles better than any of the competition I've tried. Outcast
How does it affect the ride quality? I really wouldn't want to make it harder than it already is. Some of the roads I have to drive on are pretty horrible.
sivispacem
Depends on which ones you go for. I've run Street Comfort, V1 and V2 before. The ones I had on my A4 were better than the OEM sports suspension in terms of damping. All the V2+ stuff is rebound and compression adjustable as well as height so you can moderate the ferocity of the damping. To be honest though they're always going to be harder than the factory stuff- the difference comes in how they deal with choppy surfaces. KW do a street comfort range which is designed to be equal to or better than standard sports suspension in terms of softness but with better resolved damping and rebound but I think that's only for larger saloons. Outcast
If my main purpose is purely aesthetics, is it really worth spending so much more on coilovers when lowering springs do what I need at a much lower cost? Specifically, I'm looking at the Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs.
sivispacem
You end up with a much better ride by using coilovers generally because spring rates and lengths and damper lengths are harmonised. If you're lowering 40mm on standard shocks you're losing 40mm of effective travel. Outcast
Ok, I see the benefits of coilovers over lowering springs. Still, I've spent over 10k USD already and I'd really like to keep costs low as I've already exceeded my initial allocated budget. The Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs only drop the car an inch which should still leave me with enough leeway in suspension travel. If I do feel the need to upgrade to C/Os in the future, it shouldn't be a problem but as a quick-fix for the current wheel gap I assume the Eibachs would serve the purpose. I also read somewhere that NA cars tend to ride higher than their EU counterparts due to some regulations they have in the States. Look at that wheel gap! Lurch
With all the money you've spent so far, suspension would be the last thing in the world I would want to cheap out on, especially on a car like that. I'd honestly be pretty disappointed in you if you didn't throw a decent set of coilovers on it (whether it be Bilsteins, KW's, AST's, Ohlins, Motons, MCS's,upper-end Konis, etc). I know you're eventually going to sell it, and everything done so far is tasteful and compliments the car well enough that it shouldn't detract from the value in any way. In fact, to the right buyer, it could make it worth more. Some good suspension falls into that same category. Which coilovers would you recommend for daily street use? Lurch
The Bilsteins are probably still the most street friendly of the bunch. Noise out of shocks is usually just in the bushings anyway, I think. At least on the street. I've never tracked a car so I don't know what kind of sh*t they do when they get hot. I bet if you don't go all the way down, they probably won't creek too bad. KW V3's are a good choice too. Though they might a bit pricier. Check and see what kind of spring rate options they have. A lot of your upper end stuff will let you choose so you can get something that isn't too stiff. Edited February 21, 2014 by Lurch
sivispacem
KW V3 > Bilstein. Not to say that Bilstein are poor in any way, but without going custom, V3s are hard to beat. I'd beg to differ with Lurch here- having played off PSS10 versus KW V2 in the past the KWs were better for daily driving. You could always inquire with Nitron, they do reasonably priced custom setups so you could basically spec whatever you want. The Lotus boys love them and I know a few people running custom setups for road and track cars who will sing their praises. I have friends with them though, and they love them. One of which has an NSX on V2's. He DD's it and managed to usually win his class in AutoX last year so they seem to work in a good variety of situations. I'm sure V3's are even better. Though maybe in a slightly higher price bracket than PSS stuff? Good shocks seem to ride good even with really hard spring rates though. My friend has a Miata on AST's with 700 in/lbs front/400 in/lbs rear (i.e. really f*cking stiff for a Miata) and it rides better than stock. sivispacem
V2s and PSS10s are pretty much exactly the same price. V3s are a bit more expensive, understandably. Sup3rman
It does lookk incredibly evil with black rims. Good choice. That cap in the wheel well is indeed a sore eye, good that youre fixing it. I might have missed this, but wheres the rear spoiler? Have you changed your mind on that or is it still waiting to be installed?
Outcast
Thanks man, I can't wait to get it on the coilovers next week. About the spoiler, I've decided to postpone that until I've got all the essential mods on the car before I make a decision. I've come to like the way the car looks low down with no rear spoiler. The more I look at the car the more I feel adding a spoiler would disrupt the organic shape and flow of the lines. EDIT: Just wanted to give an update on what else I intend to do with the car after I get the coilovers on. - air filters - brake calipers painted either yellow or red - quad exhaust tips - removal of NA rear bumpers (the two things next to the license plate) - maybe some spacers depending on how it looks after the C/Os are installed - replace hood emblem with a silver one Edited February 23, 2014 by Outcast

Outcast
Done. There was a 964 track car there as well and the owner took me out for a spin in it. Absolutely brutal! I'll be replacing the gold hood emblem with a silver one tomorrow and then next week I'll be modifying the rear bumper to the euro look and having my calipers painted yellow. BMC air filters should also arrive sometime next month and once those are in I'm pretty much done with the car...or am I?
