    • Nah, most of the music in current GTAs isnt my cuppa.

    • The music in modern GTA has always been about average, nothing special.

    • I have very specific music preferences, the series has never satisfied me.

Do you believe GTAV will satisfy your musical cravings ? Will you listen to radio stations playing music you normally wouldn't listen to ?

I personally loved the GTA soundtracks, all the way from GTA3. Nothing though beats the Vice City soundtrack. I also love listening to the talk shows and the crazy callers in GTA:SA, and Lazlo, whenever he appears his desperation and depravity are welcome by me.

Guess what the reason was for the massive jump in the graph below ? (other two videos had disabled public stats)

Yep. Us. So how do you feel about the GTAV soundtrack having heard snippets of the songs so far ?

I miss listening to the GTA Vice City talk show it always had something wacky or crazy happening.

I've always enjoyed GTAs selections, I even listen to Radio Gaga outside of it now.

I loved K-DST, Radio X, LCHC, Fever, VRock, RLS, WCTR, Mastersounds, and many more. The only one station I truly despised was San Juan Sounds. Ugh.

I voted for good selections.

I put good selections. In SA i listened to K-rose, and I usually hate country. In IV i listened to the Vibe, which is usually not my type of music. So yes, GTA has a great selection of music, even when I wasn't expecting it to.

I cannot f*cking wait to hear Lazlow's voice as he interviews some random crazy guy.

As for music, I just put together a playlist of every bit of music from GTA 1 to IV

I put great selections, but it hasn't really broadened my tastes though.. they were broad to begin with. And pretty similar to rockstar's apparently. Except for VC, great as that soundtrack was (landmark!) it hasn't turned me into a fan of 80's music. They also always manage to smuggle in one or two stations that just annoy the crap out of me, which is also great and exactly as radio should be.

Yeah R* has ALWAYS delivered with good soundtracks & tend to cater to everyones musical taste & they have put me on some really great songs throughout the years especially in Vice City & San Andreas, best two soundtracks in any videogame period. GTA 4's soundtrack kinda sucked tho all i really listened to was The Classic Hip Hop channel, the Hispanic channel when i played as Luis even tho I couldn't understand the sh*t , the beats were really catchy lol & I liked some of the Heavy Metal when I played as Johnny just got me hype and made me wanna f*ck sh*t up devil.gif haha

But as for GTA V, yeah I'm pretty sure R* will deliver with this one in terms of gameplay & soundtrack atleast we got Radio GaGa in the game so far confused.gif

They seem to be going the modern pop/dubstep/rap route in this game, which I'm not a fan of. I hope there's a metal and 80's station.

VCPR in Vice City was hilarious to listen to, especially 'The Time Ranger' colgate.gif , I hope they bring something similar in GTAV. I also want a 90s-early00s rap/hip hop station

I doubt that GTAV will satisfy my music needs. I listen to metal, stuff like Pantera, Down (pretty much anything with Phil Anselmo) and various other bands. I have yet to see R* add this genre to the series.

@Assclown

Now imagine listening to Brutal Death and Underground Metal confused.gif

But I'm usually satisfied with classic Rock, though.

Chose the good selection since a lot of the time GTA has stuff I either already listen to or would've listened to or was at least already familiar with anyway.

GTA IV had a somewhat unorthodox selection of music. Yet some of the stuff on there I still listen and love today. I'm not generally the type of person that would have 70s disco, 90s euro pop and whatever the f*ck radio broker is on my iPod. But I do because I force myself when playing these games to not switch radio when I get into a car, so I experience everything. And it's come to really broaden my music taste. Done it with SA, IV and I'm going to do it with V too. Can't wait actually!

I don't really listen to music... but I love GTA radio soundtrack. Maybe it has something to do with the association with GTA why I start liking the songs, because normally I know I would never listen to such music.

GTA SA had an amazing soundtrack imo, IV didn't really do it for me....

Looking at some of the confirmed songs I think V will have a great soundtrack.

Yes, I think they have some good selections in GTA. I enjoyed the radio a lot in GTA San Andreas.

I voted for "Good Selections..."

I would've voted for "Great Selection..." if it hadn't had that "always" qualifier in its phrase. III had a good soundtrack; the classical music really suited the gameplay. Vice City had an incredible soundtrack, it really fit the setting. San Andreas had the absolute best soundtrack of any video game I've ever come across; so many songs which I had never heard before I ended up loving. The buck stopped there, though. Because the soundtrack from IV was absolutely horrendous. I couldn't listen to any of the radio stations except for talk radio (and even they were bad - with their incessant sexual talk).

Therefore, I couldn't say Rockstar "always" provided great music. Because - in my opinion - they haven't. Hopefully, GTA V will be a return to the usual great selections.

What would I really love (although highly unlikely) is a radio station dedicated to film scores and movie themes.

I've always been 100% satisified with R*'s selection of music in GTA. They won't let us down, trust me. They really know how to set that special vibe. Vice City/VCS had amazing 80's tracks.

That's one of the things I'm looking forward to the most in V; discovering older artits that are new to me, or music that I would never have assumed was the kind of music I'd like.

IV made me love Stevie Nicks for instance, which in turn made me love Fleetwood Mac.

Add rap and rock station and it's enough for me. And if it's not much to ask -- clasical music radio station will be welcome.

I really hated the radio stations in IV. That's my opinion. I never even kept the radio on, I tried with the radio and just decided to turn it off in like 2009. Never turned the sound back on to this day. I loved San Andreas Radio X and K-Dst. Only stations I listened to.

If they're going for modern stations, I want some Post Hardcore-Pop Punk in a station. With bands along the lines of- A Day To Remember, For All Those Sleeping, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, Parkway Drive, Miss May I, Memphis May Fire, Crown The Empire and So forth. I'd never leave this station. I seriously doubt ay of the bands mentioned will even be in the game. Here's to hoping though tounge.gif

If it wasn't for GTA SA, I would of not been into the 90's music scene and GTA 3 the early 2000's underground hip hop like Royce da 5'9. biggrin.gif Always liked Rockstar for their music choices.

Grand Theft Auto soundtracks have arguably become a key characteristic to the series since Rockstar began using licensed songs. While many developers forgo the use of licensed music and compose cinematic scores which suitably complement their work, the use and manipulation of artists independent from game developers has never quite reached the artistic zenith used to enhance the presented subject matter akin to that of cinema.

However with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and it's Episodic DLC, Rockstar Games has unveiled a new chapter in interactive entertainment's power to take the established convention of 'music as a soundtrack' to a bold new medium.

The formula of a music piece tied to specific scene / moment is left by the wayside and in conjunction with a carefully selected and presented tracklist, the player then is enabled to explore themes of soundtrack and it's relationship to the games's themes at a seemingly natural pace, allowing them cross-reference the subject matter being explored without feeling the hand of the director.

This direction is of course is the only aspect in which radio station system works, a lazy selection of tracks or purely using a tracklist selected by the player utterly disarms this medium.

To sum up, the Radio station medium allows extraordinary nonfiction depth to be manipulated to enhance the game's themes, at a pace that feels direction free.
