Because:

- it's expensive to get licenses.

- the car makers don't want their car to be represented in a game where criminals use them.

I suppose car companies don't want their cars in Grand Theft Auto because it's representing crime.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not 100% sure

Because:

1. They are making a parody of the real world with everything in GTA universe so having real life cars would make them stand out in a world of Sprunk and Burger Shot.

2. Licensing costs a lot of money and do you know how many cars are there in a gta?

3. Many car companies don't want their cars in games where they can be damaged (that's why a lot of racing games don't have a damage model) as they have this stupid idea that seeing a car wrecked in a game would be bad for the company's image. And especially using their car to run over people like in GTA. So that would prevent them from having all the cars they want.

They don't want to pay the "royalty" fee to have them in. Why pay when you can make up your own cars for free?

EDIT: This most likely belongs in the GTA Series Chat.

Expense argument is invalid - they could easily throw up some money for cars in GTA if they wanted to, as displayed in Midnight Club.

It is not the expense, it is the artistic license. They have to be approved to be shown and all kinds of stuff and you definitely can't make fun of them with clunkers and crappy cars. They can't make fun of a Toyota, but they can bash their own electric car, and so on.

The world of GTA, everything is a knock off and joke of a real thing. Including cars.

Thus, the definitive answer in all logical terms is "The exact same reason it's Sprunk instead of Sprite"

The first sentence is true

2 and 3 unrelated to the reason why they do not want to put real names for cars

Money is not the problem

2 and 3 are there just to explain what would happen if they, or anyone else, wanted to use real world cars.

The question should rather be: Why would they?

As said above GTA is a parody of the real world, it would ruin the series if they ever went that route. The brands and worlds they create are great the way they are.

Because reality is not nearly as hilarious. What if they did that with beer? Miller lite is not nearly as hilarious as pisswasser.

The main reason is because GTA is a parody of the modern world we live in.

Money is always a valid reason even when it's not the the main reason, the primary reason Rockstar uses parodied versions of a lot of things is already covered, it's very restrictive. Midnight Club uses real cars because it brings authenticity to the game though it restricts how the cars can be used, especially when it come to damage modeling. GTA doesn't need real cars or brands in it.

Tell me OP, if you were the CEO of Ford, would you want to associate your name with a game that features heists, sexual intercourse with "professional" dancers, shootouts w/ the police and the alleged creation and distribution of meth and meth accessories?

I mean I would, but then again, I'm a strange SOB.

This computer game has no impact on the company name no matter what happens in the game

And despite that, they still chose to use real firearms instead of parodying them.

GTA is still parallel to our real world. It still isn't the real world, and if we started treating it as such, well, next thing you know I'm spending hours of game time doing the virtual taxes.
