Porn is too easy to access, and mentally damaging to a young lad's mind, I'd be in favour of a ban on access to internet porn because of that and it's increasingly becoming more and more morally degrading to women. When I was growing up before porn became such an easy option, a good wank could easily be done just from looking at a the lingerie section of a woman's clothes magazine/catalogue nowadays lads growing up are probably getting off by watching a chick stick baseball bats were they aren't supposed to go and worse!

It's too bad it's all going to be words, and no actions from the politicians.

Speak for yourself. The vast majority of males I know (myself included) were exposed to sexuality through porn as a 'young lad' and are completely fine. If you feel the urge to associate sex with morally degrading women when watching porn, then that's your problem. I hate to burst your bubble, but most of these "degraded victims" get into the porn business voluntarily and enjoy competitive salaries while they're at it. How is it that sex is such a great thing to you, but as soon as a camera involved it's poisonous to the mind? Maybe if you started thinking for yourself instead of spewing indoctrination, then you wouldn't sound like such an idiot.

You can challenge my opinions all day, fact is porn is bad. Making it more difficult to access is good.

hate to burst your high-flying bubble, but you're completely wrong on this point.

pornography - by consenting adults, for consenting adults - is not bad.

it's legal, it's regulated, performers are tested for STD's, performers can walk away/retire whenever they choose, most of them have health/dental plans, etc etc.

where is the bad?

I don't see the bad. so no, it's not a "fact" that "porn is bad."

actually porn is very normal.

in a lot of ways it's actually good, especially for couples in a committed relationship. now it certainly can be bad if you're addicted to it. it can be bad if you work for a shady company who uses performers like slaves. but that's a minority of the porn industry and ANYTHING can be bad when abused. this is not exclusive to porn.

you're way off base.

While I'm a big fan of porn, I do think more unbiased studies need to be done on it's effects. Most that I've seen are funded by hard-right Christian organizations, which automatically makes me disregard everything I've read. That said, as a general observation from friends I still know from my middle school days, a lot of the kids who were openly bragging about their porn use back in the pre-teens do seem to have more warped view on women in their adulthood. This is obviously not proof at all, but I'd be wary of just saying it's not a big deal kids are viewing it unrestricted.

Reading the article, it says you can still elect to receive porn if you still want it, so what's the big deal?

Edit: Also, UK government should take note that banning something usually just makes it all the more alluring, and will only serve to drive demand up.

There's a big controversy in the UK at the moment after a young girl was killed by a pedophile and they presumed that one of his prime incentives for doing so was to recreate the sickening child pornography he'd been watching. I still don't see why this should affect anyone else but him, want to make it harder to find and view child porn in the UK? I'm with you one hundred percent, but when you try to take others' rights away like this it's rather sickening.

Regardless, this'll never pass as to perform such a task is completely impossible and Cameron knows it. My privacy is my privacy and you're not going to make anyone reveal what they do in their spare time to their f*cking ISP broadband providers, I'm asexual and I think this is a terrible idea as it encourages young people to suppress their sexuality and become more robotic because an out of touch individual now wants to parent every child in the country. We can decide for ourselves what we want ourselves to see Prime Minister we don't need you to do that for us.

If people thought the response to SOPA was big you wait until this become headline news a few weeks from now, people will be out in force in public and on the Internet. They don't like when you mess with their privacy Dave and that's something you really don't seem to get, not that it'll get past the Commons of course, but people are very touchy and sensitive when it comes to this kind of thing. Not only that, but I'd pity the poor soul that had to take this new law to the Queen.

Oh and a very relevant picture:

I'm just not so sure about that actually... whilst there might be a lot... a lot of backlash on the internet, I don't think people will be flocking to protest publicly that they want their porn back, even if it's a totally normal thing to want.

I also read in The Sun newspaper they plan on introducing stricter laws on "the darker side" of the internet, they didn't go into specifics but I'm guessing this is things like bestiality, taboo porn ETC.

I'd love for them to define what they mean by "darker side". Quite a few folk have weird fantasys and fetishes that they live out through porn. I have a somewhat acquired taste but it includes consenting adults so I suppose that's ok. Bestiality or the like is a no go for me.

I hate censorship in any shape or form. As a adult I should be allowed to play, watch, read and do whatever I please providing it's legal naturally. I don't give a crap if little Jimmy gets upset. That's the parents responsibility to take control of there child. This is just one step closer to the government getting more power over peoples lifes and they also use the same excuse "for the children".

They already have to hide Tobacco related products behind silly shutters in supermarkets and whatever because kids may see it. Like a little kid won't know what a cigarette is. They only have to walk down the street to see someone smoking and to be honest hypothetically I'd rather my kid know the dangers of smoking at a young age then grow up to not knowing these things. Sorry for going a bit of topic but as a smoker myself it just annoys me to no end. These silly laws are becoming more and more retarded by the day. Rather them fixing our f*cked up country the idiots that run it just want to burn it to the ground.

Yep, seems legit.

well it IS legit.

excessive reliance on porn for masturbation can lead to certain sexual or social issues.

but that doesn't mean it's true for everyone.

I've been watching porn since I was 15 and it's never caused erectile dysfunction or made it hard for me to talk to women or anything. in fact, I don't usually date girls who don't like porn because it can be a fun part of our relationship. I simply wouldn't trust a girl who doesn't have her own vibrator and an interest in some kind of porn.

plenty of healthy couples watch porn together.

usually for ideas but also just because it's fun.

Actually, it isn't. There's no empirical evidence to suggest that consumption of pornography as a general thing does any measurable harm. So please don't make claims about the factuality of your opinions you can't hope to substantiate. It isn't clever.

Any evidence to support the claim it does no harm, then?

It's very hard to prove a negative. The burden of scientific proof is on you as you're making the unsubstantiated claim. My comments that there is no empirical evidence to suggest that consumption of pornography generally causes harm are based on the absence of evidence suggesting so. Do you expect me to prove the absence of this evidence, or are you asking for proof of something I'm not actually saying?

I saw a documentary about disabled people and sex. One guy - cerebral palsy iirc - had a harness for sex. He found it difficult to find a girl who'd be into it, and relied on escorts (prostitutes). He couldn't afford them though, so he ventured into porn - making it and being in it. This new "law" would have a serious impact on this guys life. I'm wondering how many people are in a similar situation.

lol at that scrubs picture btw.

And to answer a question: aceofhicks, I think it's likely. I can't see anyone standing against this, because it's been slapped with the "child porn" label. No one is going to argue:

"This new law blocks porn including child porn"

"That's wrong"

"you're a pedo"

Opposing it would be suicide, politically, as it makes it LOOK like you're supporting child porn, rape, exploitation etc. The majority of the country will nod and blindly go along with it, instead of looking at themselves for the solution.

I hope people think and consider all aspects - censoring, the freedoms etc, and realize that this is, essentially, against our human rights. Why not instead introduce a new law that addresses immigration? Or perhaps instead look at the TRILLION POUND ECONOMICAL DEFICIT! We're still teetering on the edge of recession, and this is their priority? Someone shoot him, please.

I wont argue that porn could damage developing minds but it all comes back to the same thing:

Parental control. This day and age it's easy to set up and regulate. If you're a parent and own a computer, you should know about this. It's your responsibility to keep your children safe online, not mine, not the governments.

I find it so stupid that the "child porn" and "normal porn" are classed as the same. What next, the government banning cheese? It's just an industry, and a very profitable one. Do porn production agencies pay tax? If so, are the government not worried about losing that revenue? Or will they instead slap it on road and petrol and alcohol?

I'm privy to hot girls doing the "duckface" myself. I don't have the slightest idea why I find it attractive, but if GTA-Prince (my D) gets all worked up because of it, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be having a good wank to it.

As strange as this comment is it brings up a good point, what actually classifies as pornography and more importantly a pornographic site, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, 4chan. Wherever you go you're going to find some sort of either softcore or hardcore pornography, so how then would the classification system work? What websites would be blocked and what websites wouldn't? Enforcing a law of this size and scale is simply too much effort for minor results, even if it passed through the Commons we'd see them fall at the first hurdle.

Poor parenting is the main culprit here no doubt, but I don't see why the big deal is being made, of the idea banning porn is a bad idea on the whole, I think whatever can be done to make it harder for youngsters to be exposed to it, is a very good idea.

Try reading this article,

The harms of pornography exposure among children and young people

published in 2009, by M. Flood.

Here's a brief part of the extract:

Exposure to pornography helps to sustain young people's adherence to sexist and unhealthy notions of sex and relationships. And, especially among boys and young men who are frequent consumers of pornography, including of more violent materials, consumption intensifies attitudes supportive of sexual coercion and increases their likelihood of perpetrating assault. While children and young people are sexual beings and deserve age-appropriate materials on sex and sexuality, pornography is a poor, and indeed dangerous, sex educator.

-----

You lot can argue til you're blue in the face, that you watched a sh*t load of porn and you came out pretty fine, me too. I've seen all the dodgy sh*t and know whats seen cannot be unseen, but I'm willing to bet the average individual IQ here is above the norm, and for some kids growing up seeing some of this sh*t happening, which to be honest ain't that hard to find is not a good situation, and will come off a lot worse. Parenting skills are becoming ever more poorer in societies for numerous reasons, technology is becoming more and more available to children. Banning or atleast making it's much more difficult to get access porn, is unquestionably a good thing.

This doesn't block porn for adults. While access is disabled by default, you can alert your ISP that you'd like to receive it and they'll turn it on for you.

Honestly, I'd be more concerned about the slippery slope this will head down (in regards to your ISP controlling what you can access) than the awkward phone conversation with your ISP representative.
