Marvel Cinematic Universe

Even without the Black Panther powers, I didn't assume him to fall out so easily, lest to his death. A stab would have seemed somewhat more convincing (not that it should actually happen).

Death by a Thousand Cuts. Killmonger was literally bringing him down; first a cut on his arm to weaken potential power output by T'Challa if he were to throw a punch with said hand/arm. Then a slice across the stomach, trying to endure hits with the stomach using core strength would hurt like a bitch.

Then a cut to his inside leg, IIRC, to take away any power input from his legs (kicks) or power input from using the hips to generate power for a punch.

Killmonger just broke him down. But I do feel the un-enhanced T'Challa would've exerted more energy of endurance during the time of which he was being sliced.

Watching Iron Man. Its like that movie was the threshold of a universe. We were standing on the welcome mat, ringing the door bell, and then at the end, Nick Fury welcomes us in and shows us the new world. Walking through the foyer of phase 1, imagining the wonders we would encounter on the journey to the ballroom that is the Avengers and the backyard hedgemaze known as Age of Ultron, finally entering the 40 person dining hall known as Infinity War, with stops at the master bathroom known as Civil War and the built in bowling alley known as Guardians of the Galaxy.

But seriously. I still get chills watching that final stinger with Nick Fury.

Iron Man is fundamentally the best Marvel film because back then the universe was an ''if'' rather than an inevitable. It is a great movie on it's own that anyone can watch and enjoy.

Yes!

That sums it up nice. Before and even during Iron Man, the whole of the MCU is a question of 'if' and after that stinger with Nick Fury, I (at least) felt that anything was possible. Then Tony Stark shows up in Incredible Hulk, and you fully understand they are doing this. I remember moments sitting and watching the subsequent movies, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and just fantasizing about what is going to happen with this franchise in the future. The world where all these characters are on screen at the same time, and where we see things I have wanted for all my life in movies. Even after Avengers, there was so much I wanted to see. The world of the MCU was still so small, and it has now exploded far beyond my expectations.

I watch the trailer for Infinity War, and I cannot see a reality where it is not going to blow me away. Like, Avengers, like Civil War, like Ragnarok.

Speaking of which, I just bought Ragnarok yesterday, and its so good. Better than when I saw it in theaters. It is the first MCU movie I have bought in 4K, and I cannot see myself ever buying another standard definition movie. Just watching Incredible Hulk afterward in 1080p was gross. But I digress. Ragnarok is a product of a director who appreciates the origins of these stories, which are the comics. Embracing the comics, while melding them into another story as well as that of which they have created in the MCU. They also look at the first two Thor movies, saw a lot of people did not like them (I do), and adapted.

1080p is definitely not standard definition though.

I am watching Iron Man 2 right now, and that opening with AC/DC and the dancers and the fireworks, it is like Marvel's way of saying, 'we are doing it'. It was kind of a celebration of the MCU as something where anything is possible. Where Black Widow and Nick Fury and War Machine are faithfully shown in a movie with Iron Man.

This is why I hate to say anything bad about this movie. I love it. Whiplash is boring, but just the world we are shown in this movie left me fantasizing about what we see in Marvel movies today. The were doing it, they did it, and they will continue to do it.

Plus Peter Parker is the kid in the Iron Man mask. Yes, thats a retcon, but its a f*cking fantastic retcon.

The only problem that I have with Iron Man 2 is that it feels more like an episode of a TV show than a real movie. There's no real buildup to any of the events. It still makes a certain amount of sense though, considering the role that Iron Man 2 plays in the MCU universe. It was mostly there to set up all of the events that came after it, to introduce Black Widow and to develop S.H.I.E.L.D. further as an important organization within the MCU.

Now Im watching Thor.

I dont hate Thor, as a movie, but they just didnt do it right. They take Thor (the character) out of his element before we truly see him in his element. They bank too much on a thinly developed romance between Thor and Jane, and not enough on a under-developed fraternal relationship of Thor and Loki. If I had the infinity gauntlet, and the ability to change reality, Id make Thor 1 the third movie, The Dark World the first, and Ragnarok the second. Of course tweaks would have to be made to their stories, but the infinity gauntlet can pull it off.

Thor 1 and 2 is what happens when Marvel were still hesitant on the whole cosmic thing. I know he's been around for a long time now but I really hope Hemsworth sticks around and gives us some King Thor films, there is so much left do with that character and world.

The first two Thor movies, Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron are probably my least favourite MCU movies so far. Ragnarok was great but the shift in tone was a bit too sudden, I think. But then again it's directed by Waititi so it's not exactly surprising that he decided to turn the humor up to 11.

Look at the Cap go! The Russoforce is strong in this one.

I'm hoping the Cap pulls some joint manipulation there, breaking one of Thanos' fingers. That may be a stretch but the Cap ain't dying in that scene somehow, I can feel it. Maybe Hulk interrupts Cap's primal scream.

This is either the tipping scale toward the superhero genre's inevitable implosion or it will launch Marvel into new heights. Exciting all around.

Yup. The first film after Avengers 4 is gonna be interesting, if they can pull people back in then superhero films are gonna be more than fine but if they struggle then who knows.

Curious to see what they've done to Thanos's origins, I'm one of the few people who dig the Eternals but I get the impression they're gonna redo it completely.

Theyll be fine. Theyll reboot everything, have a bunch of movies (including Fantastic Four) that will lead up to Avengers vs X-Men.

I believe Thanos isn't going to collect all of 6 infinity stones in that movie. That's maybe for Avengers 4.

Hawkeye never gets respect. Hes better as a solo act. Or working with one or two other non-super powered or lightly super powered heroes. They need a solo Hawkeye with Clint and Kate.

Finally got around to seeing Black Panther yesterday. I really enjoyed it overall, but was slightly disappointed with Kilmonger, not because he himself was disappointing, but rather because people had hyped him up to be the best MCU villain since Loki. And to me, he just wasn't. I sympathized with his worldview about sharing Wakanda's tech with the world, and thought the body scarring was pretty cool, but that's about it. It had a pretty satisfying ending with T'Challa (I probably just butchered his name) revealing the wonders of Wakanda to the rest of the world.

Infinity War is looking totally lit. I just wonder where they're going to have the Soul Stone come from, that's the only Infinity Stone yet to be revealed.

Thor The Dark World does a much better job at world building and lore than the first movie. I think it would have been beloved if it came out in 2011. I really like the second act with Thor and Loki teaming up. Loki himself is a delight.

Sad to see the Warriors Three. I hope Sif survived Ragnarok, she is awesome. And Odin's words to Thor about forgetting about Jane and looking to what is in front of him (Sif) is almost meta at this point in time.

Edit: of course there is the bad in the movie. It doesnt feel connected to the rest of the MCU but probably needs to be, especially coming hot off of Avengers. Malekith is a boring villain. Thor doesnt really grow as a character, but definitely is different than who he was in the first movie, and that feels weird.

Thor really needed Ragnarok. To make it something completely different and fun. I get what they wanted, which was Lord of the Rings fantasy type stuff in space, but it was not close enough to that, and didnt do it well.

Sort of. Its set in the 90s so Coulson will be a young rookie SHIELD agent. I want Coulson to Reunite with the Avengers! HE IS AN AVENGER DAMMIT! NICK FURY HIMSELF SAID SO! SO DID TONY STARK, KIND OF!
