redx165
On RDR hardcore mode the auto aim is disabled, and im sorry but using that little circle to aim is downright diffcult at timeas and bothersome at times aw well. Im praying that Auto Aim comes back for GTA V, anyone else agree? GTA IV doesn't have soft lock RDR had soft lock MP3 had soft lock GTA V has soft lock GTA does have soft lock Since when? GTA IV was hard lock, SA was hard lock, VC was hard lock, III was hard lock, LCS was hard lock, VCS was hard lock. Only one that has soft lock is GTA V. Read my edited post. I misread. Is free-aim the same thing as soft lock? And didn't rockstar announce GTA 5 will have auto-aim already? And it's the players chocie? Soft Lock gives you some help but nothing like Auto Aim (aka Hard Lock ). Play MP3 to see their Soft Lock. That's most likely going to be how GTA V soft lock is. GTA V will not have Hard Lock ( Rockstar said that themselves ) So your choice is soft lock or free aim.

I'm a casual gamer, I only play GTA and Fifa so forgive me . Either way it doesn't bother me, some hardcore gamers got me into free-aim and I'll always use it from now on. I wonder if they're going to put soft-lock and free-aim players in the same lobby like Max Payne apparently did. That would kind of suck. But if they didn't the player base would be split. PHOENIXZERO
Soft lock gives you the basic location of the target but doesn't stay with the target if it moves like hard lock does, IMO it made sense to use in RDR for John given his storyline shooting prowess so that's my justification for using it there, I didn't use it much on the MP side. If we could have individual settings in GTA V for how the characters targeted I'd have it off for Trevor and Franklin while leaving it on for Michael. But since we probably won't be able to do that I'm likely going to disable it since I've gotten a lot better with free aim over the years, from the little we saw of the shooting it looks like free aim head shots are going to be cake. GTAboob
I used auto aim all the time until I saw the gameplay trailer. Free aim feels more easier to control, and I think it's faster to move from one guy to another.
Honest Bill
I don't see the point in auto-aim. It takes all the fun out of quite a huge portion of the game. So i'll be disabling it, and i'll only play on free aiming lobbies.
Twiggy123
Rockstar described soft lock as a semi lock-on where your reticle will be near the person you are aiming but you have to do most of the heavy lifting. GI Q&A with R*
Mokrie Dela
Rockstar hand you multiple control options and this war still goes on Not everyone has the same ability in free aiming and for those that aren't elite with it, it is NOT fun What's fun about dying ten times in a mission? Nothing. Don't like AA, don't use it. Prefer it on, leave it on Soft lock seems to be the better option however. You have to free aim but younger some assist when your new the enemy. Great! And still the elitist c*nts (I'm sorry but you are) have to moan because other people want to play the game their way I use both, and if u use AA or manual, fine. Some people will shrug and say whatever Others will insult AA users and act all high and mighty. These are the c*nts and need to be shot. People's play styles vary and that's that AA and manual are separated online Sp has the option (and it should remain on by default for the newcomers and casuals. If you're good enough to play with manual, fair play, but you're capable of disabling it. Casuals who rent the game may not realise you can enable it so would become alienated AA on or off, who the f*ck cares? As long as the gamer enjoys it. Ps I'd like to make two distinctions 1-it's easier to aim with a mouse than a console analogue stick. I find the latter very difficult to aim so soft lock is brilliant for me 2-I use both. As niko I love getting those headshots, and believe me I can't get them with manual and the game ceases being fun As johnny however ill turn AA off and spray every motherf*cker I can. Luke is between the two, AA off and try to shoot better. Edited July 20, 2013 by Mokrie Dela The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Agni
Well im sorry that ur a better shot than me, but I really need aim assist since I have mild carpel tunnel syndrome Uhhh if you have carpel tunnel what difference does it make using the left stick to walk/drive than using the right stick to actually aim a gun? Sounds more like you're too lazy to learn how to shoot than being in too much pain to aim. Why not have a complete steer assist for driving as well for all the carpel tunnel sufferers? And what about blind gamers? Maybe we should put braille letters on every gamepad button so they can be pleased also. Should they add subtitled colors for traffic light signals as well.. you know, for the color blind gamers? ...You do realize that some games these days come with colorblind modes, right? Weremoose10
Auto aim sucks. It took replay value away from the game. Shooting game modes were boring in GTA IV because you don't even have to kill anyone, the game does it for you.

Kreuzn
I understand having a soft lock mode for single player for casual gamers who don't want to go through the learning curve of trying to aim. But having soft lock options online splits the community in two. And unfortunately the bulk of the players choose soft lock. While this still gives the free aim a decent portion community, as the game gets older and more people move on to other games it gets ridiculously hard to find a match with other free aimers. Just look at max payne 3. With in a year free aim lobbies were dead with a small group of people still playing, yet soft lock lobbies were still filled with people. And thats a shooter game. No cars, no free roam, nothing besides shooting. It has the most refined shooting mechanic of any third person shooter. And people still chose soft lock. Of course gta has a much larger player base, but still it can become a problem over time.
The Gardener
I don't have a problem with having different aiming options. Personally I use free-aim. It's far more realistic and fun. But I just wish the playerbase wasn't split like it was in GTA 4. You have free-aim games, auto-aim games, friendly fire on/off, police on/off. I know nothing can really be done, it just sucks sometimes. Free-aim lobbies are mainly full of jerks so it's harder to make friends and auto-aim has nicer people but auto-aim is a no go for me. I just hope free-aim is default so maybe it attracts more players. And if you don't want to use it ust change it to auto-aim.

Weremoose10
These are mainly selfish, self indulgent half retarded emo goth type kids. They complain about EVERYTHING under the sun NO MATTER WHAT. False. I just want a competitive online mode because that's what makes the game fun. When you make the default type auto aim then it pretty much sets the low standard of shooting and people generally don't rise to the occasion or strive to improve. It's kind of the problem with the education system today as well. Standards are constantly lowered and so it appears that you are quality until you get out in the real world. Autoaim is for uncompetitive people which is fine if you want to enjoy the game that way since it is just a game after all. But I don't think it should be default. clevertrev
for me it will be auto aim all the way. will never play MP with free aim ever again & there is a good reason for this. played a few free aim games in the past & couldn't work out why I was so bad at it, I mean i'm not saying i'm that good but you'd think id get at least a couple of shots off before getting killed but no. Turns out after making a few enquiries on forums & overhearing a few conversations in MP that an estimated 90% of these free aim super hero's aren't using a standard controller. They are using a fragfx. If you don't know what it is then google it. this device makes aiming the same as on a PC, as in very easy & a lot quicker than the standard controller. So no free aim MP for me.
