So, its almost obvious by now that the PC version is going to be delayed for some indefinite amount of time, whether its a fortnight or half a year, with most forumers expecting 1 to 3 months delay, according to this poll. Speaking of the past: GTA IV for PC wasnt announced along with its console versions, if i recall correctly. More than that, it was developed (ported) not by Rockstar North studio, but by their Toronto branch. The game turned out to be rather laggy, texture popping, memory leaking rubbish. Now, what can we expect this time?

They know what a mess IV was so I'm sure they will be more careful and do it properly this time (though ports are not made by R* North usually, they are handed to other studios so I hope whichever studio gets the job does it properly.

Rockstar is known for being awful at PC versions of games because they can't seem to grasp the concept that porting from console to PC is a terrible idea and never leads to good things. GTA III was awful, SA was terrible, and IV was one of that worst experiences I had ever dealt with on a computer.

Then again, GTA V is using a highly modified version of RAGE. It's extremely similar to Max Payne 3's version of RAGE. So you never really know. MP3 was decent-ish. Still had an array of problems.

We will see.

GTA 3 has texture compression issues. SA is known for frequent crashes (especially when modding, but that is to be expected.), and MP3 usually has installation problems or graphical hiccups (mainly do to how it utilizes DirectX).

As much as I want it to be like Max Payne 3, Max Payne 3 was developed on the PC from the very start, so it was easier to make it run that good. In fact, that wasn't "okay" as you put it, it was some of the best optimization that was ever done on the PC. Unfortunately, I believe GTAV will be very similar to GTAIV in terms of performance, only slightly better. It will get better and better with patches, just like IV did, though.

I never had crashes in SA, maybe 3-4 total and I've played it a long long time.

As for III, I had no problems with textures but did notice frequent slowdowns which I learned later was engine's fault. Being their first 3D it wasn't the best engine around and it rendered all objects around the player which put strain on PC

Hopefully they remember to include the moon this time round. I think the missing billboard and lit sign effects were an improvement though. (They must of been! Rockstar Toronto thought so! lol.gif )

Also is it just me, or did Toronto really mess up the physics in later patches?

It's gonna be optimized and of course much better looking than the console ones for what we've already seen in all screenshots were taken from the PC version... that's why we all thought it was next gen. It was not next gen it was from the PC. And we all seen how it was optimized for the consoles in the gameplay video. Everything looks much more cut out.

agreed on this and I will still buy it when it comes out on consoles and again on PC

I really hope it won't be as bad as IV... Even if I'm not planning getting it on PC, I did get GTA IV and it is terrible.

No it didn't. Why do people like you keep talking sh*t? Bugs that don't even affect you and you act like your experience was ruined.

Care to explain?

the only issue I had with MP3 was it didn't like being minimized *which isn't that uncommon on PC Games*

BS.

I never had issues and I modded the crap out of SA.

Never had issues with MP3 or GTA3 either.

Only issue I had with it was on my new PC, had to turn on Vsync, GTA III/VC/SA tends to implode when it goes over 60 FPS, other than that, SA was great

This is not true, all trailers and screenshots are from PS3. I don't understand what is so hard to believe about this. In my opinion the graphics look current gen just very well polished indeed. Also do I need to add that the trailers are a combination of clips from the game at various stages of development? What you see in the trailers is NOT what the final game will look like, they tell people this but they ignore the facts.

Yeah I couldn't agree more, I hope for the PC players sakes though that they get what they deserve.

I also did not vote because the poll is very biased. Either you think the port will be crap or you think the port will be decent. I think the port will be great because it certainly isn't 2008 anymore and they have learned from their past mistakes like a good gaming company does with each release. I find it laughable that everyone is nay-saying a port they have no information on AT ALL.

I thought that GTA IV on steam was pretty good, occasionally my car would hit some kind of invisible obstacle but other than that it's like playing GTA on the console with max settings and better aiming. I'd take GTA V on PC if it was playable and didn't get too annoying.

Yeah, after a few years, several patches and the hardware that evolved over the years. You should have tried to play IV back in December 2008 when it came out without any patches. If I remember correctly, it needed over 1.8GB VRAM, and it looked god awful. Not to mention that it was almost impossible to play on high settings with a decent framerate on High-End hardware. And SLI/CrossFire wasn't supported, which was solved though with the first patch. IV was and still is a terrible console port on PC, and a lot of people had serious problems when it launched. On one hand, it's understandable because IV was the first HD openworld title from Rockstar. But I still have no idea how they could mess it up that seriously.

Rockstar released two titles for PC since the release of IV in 2008, namely L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3. LAN was a Team Bondi project and it used a different engine, but the game was ported to PC by Rockstar Leeds. They did an okay job with it, and it improved even further with the release of the DirectX11 patch. MP3 is very well optimized, and it even uses the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine so we can assume that they will use their experience they gained from the development of their latest title. While some may be concerned about the fact that it's not the Vancouver who developes V PC, I don't think there is any reason to be afraid. The Vancouver studio is closed anyways, and a lot of those employees are now in the Toronto studio. Thinking about the last two Rockstar titles that arrived the PC platform, and taking into account the studios that developed these titles, I think it's almost a given that GTAV will be decently optimized.

Reason why they didn't make RDR for PC was because they were conscious they needed to work a lot more with the Game Engine and tweak it a little better, otherwise it would be a flop like GTA IV was, and I'm sure ROCKSTAR wasn't pleased to see their name on the mud for something usually related to companies like EA or BETHESDA. After a few years of working with it, it seem they got it right with Max Payne 3.

So GTA V will be a fully optimized game with support for DirectX 11 and every latest technology for sure, and before you say "oh but is an open world, you need a NASA computer for that" ... think that UBISOFT is doing that with WD, it will be an open world with DX11 and all the latest technology, so ROCKSTAR won't stay behind.

I don't believe this time they'll make a port of an inferior version and then enhance it with some better textures and demand you to have at least 3 cores to run the game properly and leave the GPU memory only for the textures.

Rockstar Vancouver made Max Payne 3 and I believe Rockstar Vancouver ported Max Payne 3 to the PC. The last game Rockstar North ported to the PC was GTA IV to my knowledge so if I had to guess I think it'll be like GTA IV.

Rockstar Toronto ported GTA IV to PC, Rockstar Vancouver no longer exists because they joined with Rockstar Toronto.

And Rockstar Vancouver didn't port Max Payne 3 to PC, they made it from the ground side by side with consoles and optimized greatly the engine and their knowledge about RAGE.

I see my mistake. Still assuming Rockstar Toronto is porting the game to the PC again it could be like GTA IV. It's not like the console and PC version are been built side by side. We shall see.

That you don't know, but I believe it will be like that.

Specially because Toronto and Vancouver are in the same team, in other words we have the team that ported GTA IV with the team that optimized the engine for PC working together... that could mean something.

Rock Howard

Rockstar learnt from their mistakes with GTA IV and this was illustrated as has been mentioned by the much better optimized PC version of MP3. GTA V PC, if there is one will be done like this I predict and will actually be developed for the platform rather than just a sh*tty port.
