LolBurn
GTA IV was 6.51 GB. That game didn't have anything compared to GTA V. GTA V has far better AI, 3 characters, tons of vehicles, a MASSIVE world, tons of customization, and I could go on and on for hours. I don't get how they could fit all this in just 15 GB! ill-thoughts
GTA4's size including all land and water is probably about 2/3rds the size of GTA5....dont listen to what they said about GTA5 being the size of EVERYTHING combined, its called lying to you and selling you a dream. Are you stupid? Or just trolling? The entire GTA IV map, land and water, is maybe a fifth of GTA V's entire landmass. Then there's the underwater. The map size has been confirmed for over a year. Stop it. Rockstar is not the type of developer who would blatantly lie to us about a confirmed fact to sell us a dream.

Um no. Los Santos is already about the same size or bigger than Liberty City on which pretty much everyone agrees but pretty much one person (in the Los Santos size thread). This means that based on everything else we have seen GTA 4 can't possibly be as big as 2/3rds of GTA 5 considering the country side is absolutely much bigger than Los Santos itself. I much rather listen to someone who actually has done the math than a pessimist claiming a map is smaller than everyone else thinks or calculated. If you want to complain something is small at least show irrefutable evidence.

SheldonByrne
Lets not forget they did enthuse they were "pushing current gen consoles to their absolute limits" and.. that xbox 360 will have 2 discs (one for initial install and one for the game itself) so its not that hard to believe! just trust them they know what they're doing
DaRkL3AD3R
Less cutscene videos would leave lots of room for filed content probably. God I PRAY that there are 0 freaking cutscenes. I hate prerendered BS cutscenes like we had in Max Payne 3. Not only does it look noticeably worse than actual gameplay, it also is a completely and utter WASTE OF SPACE. I'd bet my left foot that the animation files to do just do ingame cutscenes take up somewhere in the ballpark of 1/8th or less of an entirely compressed 1080p video file. sh*te is annoying. Please Rockstar if there's one thing you learned and took away from your past games it's to NEVER AGAIN do those retarded cutscenes from Max Payne 3. Dumb Tree
If you think about it, both consoles require an install (I think both are going to be an 8gb install) so that's probably the map alone. If the map could fit on one disk, they could have easily made the 360 version multiple disks (similar to la noire). To my knowledge, this is the only xbox game that REQUIRES an install, so I figure the install disk is probably the map/textures (it'd be better to install that portion on the hard drive, because it would allow for faster load times of the world, hopefully reducing pop-in) and maybe some radio too, and the other disk would be everything else. That alone means at least 8gb is dedicated solely towards the map/textures (of course, I'm guessing here. Seems logical enough though). The entire game of GTA IV isn't even as large as the map of GTA V. Again, I'm just using the idea of the mandatory installs as by basis. I could be wrong, but I think it's a fair guess. Ash_735
You guys need to be educated. A lot of space in a GTA Game is Audio, so the actual Map/Weapons/Vehicles, etc in GTA IV is actually only around 3GB on the consoles, now they have been allowed to do an Install, which means they now have 7.8GB for all that content instead of 3GB and all the audio gets shifted to the play (streaming) disc, which again, allows them to also include more audio content within the game. Dumbest comment I have seen today, why would they advertise it as the biggest map yet to date if it is not, do you think they want to piss off their fans? And the reason IV did not have planes is because of the small land mass, doubt they would give us less land and airplanes. Go buy Watch Dogs or something, your negativity based on NO facts is not needed in these forums,
Ash_735
For example, I don't have the console ISO nearby, but let's look at the PC version of GTA IV, which includes higher quality textures and less compressed videos: GTA IV PC - Total Space: 15GB Audio - 6GB Movies - 1.76GB That's 7.76GB on the PC version before you even include one model or texture! It's similar on the console versions but on a smaller scale.
godforgivesthelostdont
Disc size =/= amount of content. As some functions simply take more space than others. LA Noire takes up more space than Red Dead for example.
Dope_0110
Easy, coding takes no space if we look at grand scheme of things, what does is audio and textures. Now, while the city need A LOT of textures, the countryside needs far less as it's not as populated with objects (buildings, trash, billbioards.. all the stuff the city has) so they can really extend the countryside to be much bigger and still take far less space than the city. So that's what they did. The city itself is a bit bigger than LC was (according to LS size thread which seems pretty accurate with many people independently getting about the same scale). So let's say the city is about 20-30% larger, and assume the city alone has about 1-2 GB more data compared to LC. The countryside probably needs only about maximum 40% of city's data in size (including small towns) and that explains it.

Skozza89
New compression techniques to save more space, Compressed files which means longer install but ultimately for more content. Spending plenty of time to push the current gen to its absoloute limits. And if one person can pull it off its Rockstar. Just look at the gameplay trailer. Pretty much confirms most of it. The scale of the map is incredible. They been working on this game a long time don't forget. They obviously learnt how to compress files better. Also, since 2011 xbox 360 dvd's have a maximum capacity of 9-10 GB instead of the original 6-7 GB. So I don't see a space problem for 360. Wrong. The Xbox could only read 6.8GB out of the 7.95GB available, but Microsoft claims they managed to make the last bits usable, that it's able to roughly store 8GB of Data, not 9-10GB, that's physically impossible on a DVD. Also wrong with the BluRay disc being the same size. Many games before (including GTA IV) proved that the BluRay Version had larger files, in GTA IV that meant higher quality of the audio/video files. I mean, why not use the space if you have it? Even if they want to fill a single layer BluRay Disc only then they'd still have 10GB of free storage, can easily be used for better quality of some files. This had nothing to do with the topic anyway... well it sort of does when Blu-Ray discs have what? 25-50GB (according to wiki you can get 4 layered ones for 128GB lol) space....I don't think theres been a single game that's used all that space but I expect the game that does to be massive. You are right as it doesn't really matter with compression. That and the size of a game doesn't exactly indicate much other than its size.
