Look to games of the late 20th century, and then look to what they are today in terms of pretty much everything. Look what happend to San Andreas, the proclaimed best game of the previous generation, there are quite alot of games which surpassed it. The map is literally the same street over and over again, with a very few exceptions. This is coming from a guy who loved True Crime: NYC to death. But of this generation, definitely. Mainly for the reason that most great games besides highly anticipated exclusives, sequels, and new Intellectual properties this generation, were mainly sandbox clones. Also being what San Andreas was to the Ps2, GTAV will dwarf that generation with this release. Any other game that could have competed don't stand a chance in terms of sales because they don't offer what R* does. Would you rather spend $65 on a game that will last you maybe 30 hours tops, or save money by playing a game for 100s of hours? Thats the sweet spot GTA has always hit for me. TLoU is on my personal top 3, it wholeheartedly exceeded my expectations. But do you firmly believe it will in your case? maybe you won't like it as much? But i know GTA V will for me, my expectations were never surpassed or were to high either (maybe a little), i just knew that (for me atleast) The Last of Us is one of the best games ever. before i even played it and i didn't even watch more than one video.... And i knew that V will be the best game of all-time back in October 25 2011, crazy right? In the end, I guess i'll use the "Let's just wait and see" phrase. This is not compatible with next-gen, so it could be a problem for it being this year's best game. However, due to only a few new titles every decade the magazines will push the V's rating up anyway.
