When I looked down as I was preparing to step off my porch, I saw out of the corner of my eye a spark/flash, accompanied with a "bang" (they missed, thankfully), then the car suddenly floored it. It's very difficult to obtain a permit for a real firearm in Russia, but there is a large market of look-alikes that can only fire rubber bullets or tear gas. Not that being shot with one of these is any more pleasant. On the topic, I'd prefer to get shot through one cheek and out the other. A .38 won't tear up my whole face in this scenario, and there is very little chance of any additional damage. This, of course, assumes perfect aim on part of the shooter.
