DemonBlood666
Anyone else notice from all the info and trailers that there doesn't seem to be a main antagonist? A clear bad guy? I know Rockstar are very secretive but I haven't seen even a hint of someone having a beef with our three characters. The Trevor and The Lost stuff from the trailers just looks like Rockstar showing us how crazy Trevor is and not an actual real main feud. Every GTA game up to this point has had an overarching bad guy...Someone that you interact with through most of the game. It kind of looks like GTA V has replaced that with heists. Are these places you rob the main antagonist? Meaning instead of killing the big bad guy in the end, you pull off one last heist on a big bank? I could be completely wrong on this but from what we've seen I just don't know where the provocation is going to come from. Maybe they piss off the wrong people with one of their heists and that's how we get our bad guy? They might go the Heat route and have a cops/robbers type thing. Or maybe even have one of the three main characters turn into the antagonist. Imagine Trevor turning judas and still having to control him? I've always loved all the twists and turns in the GTA games storylines and really hope V's story doesn't consist of just a series of heists. tl;dr I like turtles. Chukkles
Personally I think each protagonist will have their own antagonists, so you may be able to look at it that way as the group. I mentioned in another thread that because Michael just wants to feel young again, his antagonist is death itself.

DemonBlood666
#KIFFLOM Hmm, didn't think of that. You may be on to something there. Maybe you rob one of the places they own.

saintsrow
OP, you have a good idea. Banks and the financial industry are amoral, write the rules for themselves and everybody else, and they consist of pure, unstoppable greed. Basically, banks are the equivalent of financial Terminators. If the story is all about the almighty dollar, yes, I can see their inexorable evil could indeed be the antagonistic force throughout the story. TheDeaconBosco
There will be no antagonist Just because it's not obvious doesn't mean there's no antagonist. I'd like to see the head of an amoral Mega Corporation be the main antagonist of a GTA, maybe in a game set in Las Venturas.

I mean, what would be the point? I'd actually like it If there wasn't some bad guy that all 3 protagonists share.

Sept17th2013
They might go the Heat route and have a cops/robbers type thing. I love the relationship between Neil and Vincent. In the coffee scene, they almost look like friends, despite being police / heistman. The things they say to each other, I don't know man. Two great minds arguing together, none of them seems like the bad guy, they simply chose different ways. -"Why don't you do a normal life?" -"What the f*ck is that, baseball matches and barbecues on sundays?" You're almost in favor of Vincent, the investigator. And that's because there's a big parallelism between him and Neil. It's a play that leaves the spectator speechless, because it introduces sort of an emotional depth to the guy that's usually only the one you want to die. And if they did that for GTA V... it'd be one of the best videogame plots EVER.
michaelpece
I reckon the Maze Bank will be the final major heist or something.
Lock n' Stock
Didn't that GameInformer preview a while back say that you'll play as both the protagonist and antagonist? I hope to god this isn't still true, I'd hate to see Michael, Trevor or Franklin turn on one another.
The Sullinator
Michael is linked to the FIB due to the "sweet deal" he made with them, and the FIB even has sent him and the other two on at least one mission because we know they set up The Extraction mission. So maybe it's someone high up in the FIB. Or who's to say it's not one of the three. I mean there's no way all three of those guys will just get along perfectly the whole way through, especially because Trevor and Michael already have had a falling out before the game. Either way, an antagonist will pop up in some way. They always do, and it won't be hard to work it in.

wwinterj
Given the multiple choices and apparently multiple endings I'll go with one of the three protagonists been the antagonist or none at all depending your choices.
kesta195
I think it will be the FIB, it looks like they are using the trio to do a lot of their dirty work.
MasterO
FIB who then turn one of the protagonists against the others (depending on choices)

Degrees
No harm in not having an antagonist. But Trevor/Lost Franklin/Ballas Michael/FBI.
SwitchBladeJones
I love how much depth GTA has. It's like a piece of music by Mozart or a movie by Stanley Kubrick, whether you're a total dumbass or an intellectual you can reach your own level of understanding and appreciation of the artistic work. GTAIV I think was brilliant because the underlying critique of American society during the Bush Administration. Also a message that life as a criminal is a hard and highly risky way of life, sometimes with little payoff. I think GTAV will delve into a critique of white collar crime. Stocks, real estate, banks, and all the deep corruption surrounding it. I'm really looking forward to the underlying political and social message in this game. S1LV3R_W0LF
I think the main enemy will be the system, the reason why these retried criminals get back in action, the system, the financial crisis made them do it, well maybe except for Trevor I think he does it because he likes it, lol. In fact couldn't be a better mirror of modern society, nowadays lots of people become criminals not because they want but because they need too. I like this theory actually, though I think Michael likes it as well, I mean he may need money and that could be the push aside from the FIB, but I think he enjoys it as well seeing as he said he wants that life as well to his Shrink. But yeah they mentioned the Economy early on, and said money is the big factor so it really makes sense. I think each protag will also have an individual obstical to overcome as well, those being Trevor with The Lost, Franklin with the Ballas and trying not to get draged further into gang banging and Michael will have the FIB. ryyannrawr
Hmm...It could simply be evil corporations. Like big business or maybe KIFFLOM. Not sure, but you would think they would manifest these things into an actual antagonist character.
defizzle
Maybe it will be someone like Terry Benedict from Ocean's Eleven/Twelve, someone who they've robbed, and is on a vendetta against them now.

luckyshot666
Didn't Houser already confirm that one of the protagonists will be the antagonist? One magazine I read hinted that it would be Michael. How that works out while none of the protagonists dies, I don't know.
