woggleman
As much as I liked IV I am certainly glad to see things like property buying, planes, customization and all that back. IV was great but with those things it would have been near perfect. That being said I hope it still gives me the sense that I am playing an adult crime game in a world that deals with hardened criminals. I loved the fact that IV dragged you into the grimy criminal underworld. In some places like Bohan and certain sections of Alderney you could almost smell the grime and the filth through the screen. I love how it contrasted with Glitzy places like much of Algonquin. I like that mission in TLAD where you have to rescue Ashley from a drug infested hell hole. I hope V has elements like that because California certainly has areas like that and you can contrast them with the rich areas. You can have a ton of humor in a setting like this as well. I actually like the Saints Row series for what it is but I don't want V to be super slapstick and cartoonish like it and I am afraid R will go to far to please the fans that complained about IV not being slapstick enough and too gritty. Dope_0110
I'm sure they will create a really big contrast between the rich part of town, Vinewood and such, and the ghettos, homeless camps and all that. But honestly, I'm sick of IV's gritty feel. It stay stuck with you forever. And that's actually a good thing, it means Rockstar managed to create the atmosphere.. but after all this time, it's time to see some sun and nice parts of town. Racecarlock
One of the storylines involves a broken family and the other two involve a meth head and a guy who's having problems with his fellow gang members. I think you'll be fine. Also, trailer 1 has a tent city full of homeless people in it. I think you'll be good.
Palm3
Do you know the developers went to L.A. several times, walking the streets with criminals, visiting prisons etc.? They will NAIL your grittyness to the smallest detail possible. Don't worry
Trund
I'm actually really happy about the fact that R* managed to bring something to the game that was introduced 60 years ago in TV's: Color.
IveGotNoValues
I'm so glad were back in Los Santos because even the gritty rundown areas have that warm sunshine feel. No more grey, depressing gloominess like we had in Liberty City

DarkDayz
Grittiness is an easy way to make HD games look realistic, everyone knows this. Portal and Mirrors Edge are the only games to counter this.
woggleman
I just want to still feel like I am playing a crime game and not an episode of Family Guy like I do when I play Saints Row. Also IV had Glitz as well. What about Star Junction?

He mean the low life feeling you get in certain parts of the city in IV Exactly. I don't mean grey and depressing though I didn't find Liberty City to be grey and depressing. It is very true to New York and parts of Jersey. I mean I don't want it to become too cartoonish. I watched the Saints Row IV trailer and I never want GTA to go that route and I am afraid R will try and placate the fans who seem to want that. Palm3
I think V will have rich and poor. That's the entire idea of V. And the counterpart of rich (buying Marina's and propertys and cars etc.) is the grittyness. Rockstar will put extreme effort to show the difference between the 2 so don't worry ;-)
GTRoyal42
Considering that V is taking place in California it should have everything. In California you have some of the richest areas in the world that are about 30 minutes from some of most dangerous places & I think it provides great contrast for a game like this
ill-thoughts
i think the Grime youre looking for will be found in the Ganton/Idlewood sections of the game aka where Lamar lives. i plan to spend 95% of the game in those areas. the richer and downtown areas dont interest me at all, they just dont have Character. I agree plus I am sure there will be plenty of grime in Trevor's area. I hope to see cars on cinder blocks and old abandoned houses plus a bunch of dirty trailers. œaœa
They will. Los Santos is kinda like an "other side of the tracks" city. You have the rich part on one side, the ghetto on the other and the suburbs in the middle.
NYC PATROL
I think so far R* is doing an amazing job of capturing the drastic contrast between the rich and poor. They show you the high life in the gameplay video then they cut to showing you homeless people living under a freeway. We as the player will be building up our empire with lavish goods while the poor fight to survive. "The Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer" sh*t just got real o_o
Dick Justice
They will. Los Santos is kinda like an "other side of the tracks" city. You have the rich part on one side, the ghetto on the other and the suburbs in the middle. It's very much a Tail of Two Cities sort of place. And I don't mean that in a physical sense, I mean it as a rich vs poor sense. Los Santos is a rich city and a poor city at the same time, and the social clash is what makes it interesting. There's this really weird feeling going around that because of the blue sky, sun and beaches, Los Santos must be a cheerful place. I think it only adds to the grittiness by being a sort of counterweight. At first glance, you have this beautiful city, but when you look deeper you find all these undertones you aren't quite expecting. That was the problem with Liberty City, at the best of times it was beautiful, but for the most part it was an ugly city - it didn't have the counterweight, which made it too much for some people to handle. I think another thing you have to consider is the music being played over the trailers. Something like 'Skeletons' or 'Radio Gaga' doesn't exactly help the grittiness come to life in the trailers, but rest assured it will be there. I mean, compare the IV trailer that played Seryoga to the TBoGT trailer that played Eric Prydz... It barely seems as if the two are set in the exact same place. J-B
Trevor will embody grittiness. So far we've seen him stomp a guy's skull in, torture a guy with a car battery, and shove a dismembered foot(who knows what he did with the rest of the body) down a toilet. He's hard as f*ck. Algonquin Assassin
I'm not at all concern about GTA V's "grittiness". There should be a distinctive feel walking around the rich and glamouress areas compared to the ghetto and slums of South LS. Aswell as those dingy biker bars and whatever Trevor f*cks sh*t up. DeafMetal
I'm looking forward to a Vice City-level realism/grittiness myself. I think it'd be perfect for the game.
woggleman
Liberty City to me wasn't ugly. It looked like New York which to me is a beautiful city. Part of me sometimes regrets leaving for Jersey.

UsernameNumber6
Honestly, after all the stuff we've been shown. I trust Rockstar. I don't want to sound like a fan boy, but all these worries and things are going to be gone on release. This game will hold me over until I buy a PS4 around end of summer 2014. Even then, I can see myself playing GTA V for years, maybe even longer than I've been playing IV.
