How are cheat codes discovered in the first place?

Hey guys, just wanted to know how cheat codes are discovered in a gta game. Does Rockstar release them to fans on release date? Or do fans just type in random combinations of buttons until something pops up? It's been on my mind for a while now.

Hooked up to computer which tries several thousand combos at once, eventually tagging all the possible cheats. I think they used to be able to find them in the software files but there may be more red tape nowadays.

Sometimes the company will leak certain codes to gameplay guides, magazines, etc. in order to generate some revenue.

nope.

Most of the time the cheats are given to the authors of the gameplay guides and / or other magazines. Then there are people who hand this information over to "the internez" where we can find them

R* actually put GTA IV cheats in the games web browser. www.whattheydonotwantyoutoknow.com

Curious if there are any hidden codes tho...

They hooked a PS2 controller up to a PC and obtained a lot of GTA SA codes that way before they were released.

Indeed! Keep in mind that not all codes will be released by R*. Some will be found via the technique in the image. Some will be found accidentally. Others will be found in game files. A select few may not even be discovered till 2014/2015 (I'm pretty sure this was the case with San Andreas which had a SHlT ton of cheats).

They are given away by the developer to the sites or sometimes they're even all written in the guide. In GTA IV you could find them all of the in-game internet.

Come on people, typing random combinations??? I swear, we need constant info every day just so we don't get threads that show us how many intellectuals there are among us.

Gameplay guides or Rockstar anonymously posts them on forums.

GTA-Addicted

Edison Carter (creator of the CheatDevice for GTA on PSP) found a lot of GTA SA and portable GTA cheatcodes by mass buttoncombo's via controller and on PSP he used some sort of Homebrew.

I think Rockstar sometimes just hides them as phone numbers on things like posters, billboards etc.

First thing I did when I got SA was type in cides from Vice City and some worked.

Actually. Yes. No idea why you'd say "no" if you don't know what you're talking about. This is the old method at least.

I understand how a PC can simulate buttons being pressed, but how does it know when a cheat has been found? Also if it's doing random combinations how does it know how many of the previous combinations actually enabled the cheat? (assuming it can even know when a cheat has been found).

Sounds like BS to me.
