Did you all know SAMP, a free indie made mod to San Andreas has more online players than GTA IV DAILY, at over 30,000+ players playing SAMP daily and 10,000 servers (source, my SAMP client and http://popznet.com/ )? Will RockStar get lazy and ignore the players again by making GTA V in the way that players cannot have servers with the amount of players they want, and dont have the ability to customize their server to their liking (so many areas of customization in SAMP EVEN YOUR LICENCE PLATE CAN BE CHANGED)? The server I play on SAMP is called NGRP, it maxes out 500/500 players every day, the whole map is used (no loading screens) to accommodate all these people giving you a feeling you never had with any other game. There are servers even bigger than NGRP like the RP-Ru server that is a 1000 player slot server and gets up to 700 players a day and sometimes even maxes out on weekends. Will Rockstar look at these stunning statistics and make this same mistake again by not giving the players what they obviously want?

Me shooting in the 700 player server (for those who think the lag is unbearable)

What made SAMP great? Just the fact that it had more players per server? I never played it, so i have no idea what was good about it.

Forgot to mention the customization advantage too, added it to the post thanks. Servers like the one I play in my videos have an elaborate money, banking, personal property (houses and vehicles), systems. There are all kinds of different servers for different game modes, you could say its like the Garrys Mod of GTA.

Sounds cool. I hope GTAV will have all that sort of stuff.

People need to speak up more about it. They should be embarrassed about the fact that more people are playing an indie modded version of their ancient ass PS2 era GTA SanAndreas Multiplayer than their recent GTA IV online multiplayer. I haven't seen them comment on this yet. I wanted to make this topic on their forums and see what they had to say, but they don't have one, thats why I made it here...

I think they would know that IV's multiplayer wasn't great. But i think since the games are focused towards development for consoles, i doubt there will be loads of players per server or anything like that in the vanilla.

I hope that they will at least make it more interesting though, even if it's on a much smaller scale, with things like you mentioned, such as elaborate money, gang and property systems etc.

I know what is SAMP, but to be honest, I didn't like it as much as you do. I still like IV multiplayer better.

You probably went to some boring servers or knew nobody in them (it sucks if ur a noob in a big server and have noone to help u out with money, I see many people quit SAMP this way). The big SAMP servers are meant to be played with other people, if you have seen my videos. You can play with me sometime if you want.

I doubt GTA V will allow completely custom game types.

SAMP seemed like a great idea, but I never got into it. I've played modded online games since the first Quake, so I know all about there being good and bad servers. I'm pretty sure I never did end up finding a good server to be honest. Although, I got the jist of what was possible.

The real reason I stopped playing SAMP was because I couldn't deal with the old GTA mechanics. So with GTA online, I think it will be much better then SAMP. I'm sure R* knows all about SAMP, what it can be on the proper servers and probably took a lot of notes on what players like and dislike about servers and how they mod the game. While I doubt they will go as in depth as some of the SAMP servers do, I'm sure we will be getting more then we can even imagine. I'm very positive online is going to be pretty great.

So where is the, "SAMP is good, but definitely dated and not perfect. So GTA Online may be the answer to that problem!", option?

No way in hell Rockstar can make 700-player servers. 32 max on consoles, 64 on PC. You'll have to wait until the game becomes as easy to handle for PCs as San Andreas is nowadays for someone to make a 500+ player mod that people actually play.

SAMP back in 2010.......some of the best nights I'd my life gaming life. Even being locked up in a jail cell for 15mins at a time was entertaining (pissing on cops). Its where I adopted my username, I made the majority of my money being a pilot, had multiple mansions and cars. One day it will be incorporated, we have a ways to go.

Was playing SA:MP tonight as a matter of fact - good stuff! What are some good servers that you guys play on? I'm not a fan of the 400 slot high-ping servers.

Its quite possible, I have played First person/ twitch mechanic MMO games for a while, the problem is that people like you dont know they exist, and thats not an insult, most people dont. I was in the Planetside 2 beta and they used to have ragdoll physics, they removed it in the Beta because object physics was putting too much strain on the server. (Planetside 2 handles 2000 players each battlefield First Person Shooter in real time). Other examples you should check out are Face of Mankind, Mortal Online, Darkfall, (and soon) ElderScrolls online. If RockStar created a script that could tweak off certain settings like object physics, they would save the GTAMP community a lot of time (yes there is a community that tries to script all GTA games to be online like this, they recently failed with GTA IV, look up GTAIVMP, the advanced object physics f*cked up everything) Its very possible, the problem is a lack of exposure, perception, and innovation. Not to mention MMOFPS games aren't commonly made because they are hard as f*ck to develop, but look at what the SAMP community did...

If any of you played SAMP and didnt enjoy it, or wanna try it, PM me and ill show you a good time in some servers. (Big RP servers are the hidden golden promise land of trolling, u jus gotta know the right people with money and hax)

I doubt 500 player servers can work on consoles... I also doubt you can have your own server, and if they'll have own servers it's probably paid like BF3.

Every GTA game that has ever been released has had a PC version. And RockStar is working with Microsoft so its almost a given.

More people play SAMP because it supports pirates, while on GTA IV, it's strictly for people who haven't pirated the game.

IMO, MTA is way better than SAMP, but that doesn't change much.

IMO, I had way more fun in IV Online, which I barely played (like, 5 Hours), than SAMP and MTA:SA combined which I played a lot (around 60 hours).

None, people who typically play only on consoles are little kids, and people who dont care/ or know how to use computers (people who obsess over CoD for example...). I said its possible on consoles.

GTA IV official multiplayer for PC has like noone playing, google it, and I bought my copy of San Andreas. GTA IV also never had the customization features.

The SAMP community is actually have been developing GTAIVMP for like 2 years now, messing with the source code, but are having trouble turning off certain settings to make the server more in-sync (for the availability of a large player server load) like object physics related stuff, RockStar could fix this probably do this simple coding problem in one or a few days.

Ill make a bet with anyone that if the developers dont custom tune the multiplayer PC version to what the players obviously want (which is shown by statistics), more people will be playing SAMP than all the official Rockstar console and PC multiplayer games going on in 3-5 years, just like it happened in comparison to GTA IV. Gameplay/ Scale > Graphics.

I'm sure GTA V Online will be great, but it won't be anything like SA-MP. Plus I don't really see why you think SA-MP is so great anyway. It seems poorly made and outdated to me. I enjoy MTA:SA which is the other mod for GTA SA, but we wont go into that. I do think several years from now we will see a new multiplayer mod emerge for GTA V that will have scripting features, high player slots, etc... just like SA:MP and MTA. Who knows GTA V Online may be so great that no other multiplayer mod will be needed.

Good old times with SA-MP it was one of the most playable games i played , you could customize servers as much as you want and stuff ... , when i checked like few months ago i sow few servers that had like 700 slots who are full thats like wow , would like to see V:MP cause i do beleave gta v online will be sh*tty as gta iv.

V:MP would be Like - messing around with 500+ people in los santos ,that would be awesome !

More people consistently play SAMP than GTA IV, and like 2x more people are playing samp right now than GTA IV with all the consoles and the PC version official multiplayers combined, of course if your someone who likes games like CoD and never experienced anything more, the idea of SAMP will not appeal to you.

This mod is indeed the best thing to ever happen to SA. I've played it on and off for 4 years (RP servers mostly) and this is the reason I'm never as impressed with any multiplayer Rockstar creates anymore. It simply doesn't beat SAMP...especially in its earlier stages. Later stages, where you'd have to "/do S/F?" and all that crap instead of just doing the action (such as tazing with police) got kinda sh*tty but there are a few decent servers around still. The reason IV never got a good third party multiplayer going is because the code the game used was impossible to work with scripting-wise. This time around, I hope it works out better.
