flyus747
I do not believe these are PC screens. Why? 1) the image resolutions are in 720p which is strange considering that PC games these days run at 1080p while consoles actually use 720p as their main resolution. 2) THE PICTURES Before I get to the second point, some info on what RENDERING is and why it's essential to games: - all games require rendering - Rendering is the process of generating an image from a model (or models in what collectively could be called a scene file), by means of computer programs. - Wikipedia - game developers would all like if the whole map could be fully rendered no matter where the player is - the slower the player is the more likely he will never find a faulty renderer of some distant object - faster the player travels the more likely he will find a object still un rendered or in the process if rendering. - depending on game engine the speed of rendering is different - open world games almost always leave parts of their map un rendered since the player isn't there. This allows the memory to be dedicated to creating a richer environment around the player thus allowing a sense of immersion. - knowing when to render and un render allows for game to played smoothly A) LOS SANTOS AND LAND ACT DAM SCREENSHOTS 'HD' screenshot: I do not believe that this shot is PC, Why? I believe that this shot was most likely done from a camera hack by R* to show off the beauties of the game. No this is not some hack or bull**** shot, several game developers use this 'hack' to allow them to capture in game screens from a perspective a player wouldn't be able to have to show off their games. With that in mind, assuming this shot was done via cam hack,R* first positioned the camera to overlook Los Santos and once camera was positioned, the game renders the part of the map that is visible in this view, this process probably took a second or two, and once the whole viewable spectrum was rendered to their full potential, R* then took the shot to produce the resulted image above which is why i believe that current gen was able to pull this off. Several disillusioned fans out there have lost their faith in current console powers but GTA V has defied these misconceptions stunningly. 'NOT HD' screenshot This shot definitely doesn't look as good as the 'HD' shot. This shot is definitely the console version but how can you be so certain? Simple. This shot shows the player in a jet, a FAST vehicle. This means the player travels fast and the rendering is not able to stay one step ahead of the player. Thus, I believe explains why the terrain is not quite at its best. If you played GTA SA then you would know that when flying across the woods at low altitudes you would sometimes explode out of nowhere and as the 'WASTED' was shown, out of nowhere, a tree pops up and thus explains your 'random' explosion in the woods. The reason was because the player was traveling fast, GTA SA's rendering was not the best back then and CJ (player) paid it with his dear life. Regarding the draw distance, it is possible a) R* shortened the draw distance b) as in ACIII, GTA V will have a 'fog' to cover the un rendered areas c) the weather on that particular day in the game just means lower visibility B) WOODLANDS AND MOUNTAINS IN THE DISTANCE 'HD' screenshot: We can see this is a very detailed shot. The trees can be seen all the way to the bridge, vegetation, water, resolution is all great. It's clear we can see everything and its all in 720p. Q: Flyus747, this is definitely PC footage, how could this be a console shot, can they even achieve this? A: it's impressive but before you give up on these current consoles take into consideration that the camera is following Franklin in a PARACHUTE. Parachutes are SLOW, they let you fall out of the sky and land safely, they're SLOW IN DECENT AND DISTANCE COVERAGE. With that in mind, the rendering is still being done at its usual pace but since you're so slow, the distance the render has covered is much farther than in a jet. I believe the way R* took this shot was via camera hack and as Franklin floats down slowly, by the time he arrives at the point in the shot, the whole environment has been rendered to its full potential thus providing R* with this fantastic shot of how rich the environment in GTA V will be and how strong these current gen consoles still are. 'NON HD' screenshot This shot still looks great but its apparent that certain aspects are missing. The number of trees, clarity, lower resolution. We can settle that this is most likely a console shot. Q: flyus747, this is a console shot, the trees are missing, terrain is lower quality etc.. This is what the console will look like while that HD shot is definitely PC. A: remember, this is a video. This shot is taken from the Official Gameplay Trailer released by R* on July 10, 2013, it's a video. The video is also from YouTube and from my experiences I have noticed that videos have never been able to capture the true clarity of what it's like when you're actually playing on a console and looking at the TV from your own eyes. The capture card could be at fault here, your YouTube resolution could also be at fault, no matter what the fault is, I'm going to assume that this shot is from YouTube at 720p (the highest resolution/best quality for this video). The reason the environment could be less detailed could be for two reasons: a) As development progressed R* decided to take out the trees in that area and instead just have a less concentrated amount of trees, they'd have their own reasons. b) the player is flying in a plane, yet another FAST vehicle which means the trees in the distant maybe just haven't been rendered yet because the plane is flying either at same speed as the render or slightly faster than the rendering Q: I am not convinced that these are still console shots, they still look pretty PC to me, a PS3 couldn't possibly pull this off A: if you have been keeping up with GTA V news you'll find that GTA V has only been confirmed on the Xbox 360 and the PS3. So maybe these are secretly PC shots of the PC build of the game that R* will surprise us with soon. You may be right but before you jump to conclusions, check out this link and see for yourself if these shots look PC or PS3 to you then read the R* comment below. R* Official Blog Not only were the shots impressive, they were clear and detailed, and in 720p, the exact resolution as the so-called 'PC' shots Q: that's only 3 pictures, how can we be sure the other 90 some screens are PS3? A: we can't be sure, there is a possibility but I do not see any reason why R* would upload those 90 some pictures on their official site with some being PC and some being console shots. To add to that, every one of those 90 screens on their website are all the exact resolution, in 720p which ill say again is what the current gen console games are all settling for as their gameplay resolution. I have not found a single PC game that is well-known ( call of duty , battlefield, far cry, ...) that doesn't run at 1080p, why would R* show their PC version at a lower resolution when they could show GTA V off at 1080p? To add to all this, it seems R* is very supportive for these current gen consoles: Take-Two on ' GTA V' on next gen consoles To show further support of R* with current consoles, R* announced their PS3 GTA V bundle and PULSE headset GTA V edition: GTA V PS3 bundle GTA V PULSE headset All of this doesn't mean GTA V won't come out on PC, couple months back a petition was opened by Mike Julliard who asked R* to have GTA V on PC. It currently has 205,948 signatures and going. This has made gaming headlines quite a few times and the number increases hour by hour. Change.org petition for GTA V on PC To all those reading this I hope I have been informative and helpful in providing this analysis, I did my best to provide accurate, detailed info backed with links as evidence, I also hope that those who have lost faith in current gen consoles to not and to see GTA V as a message as to how powerful these current consoles still are. I myself am optimistic that GTA V will come to PC, because if anyone has played GTA SA on PC then they'll know that the modding community is HUGE and is still growing to this day, If GTA V wants to have a long life as GTA SA did then R* should definitely make a PC version. To that end... Rockstar looking to bring latest titles to PC Pictures are from this post: another comparison PC or console? Zhrooms, I personally believe that your comparison was more of a comparison between an official screenshot vs a YouTube video screenshot. Adriaan
I do not believe these are PC screens. Why? Also: Official statements on newswire and elsewhere have indicated that they are from PlayStation 3.

Sorry for the misconceptions but what I meant was that the official screens from PC games are usually (if downloaded) at a 1920x1080 resolution while these GTA V screens are at 720p. It doesn't matter what we PC players play our games at (resolution wise) I personally play my PC at 800x600 b/c I can't handle the games but the official shots for games such as Battlefield, Far Cry... they're all 1920x1080 because 1920x1080 is where their game shines best while R* is only showing off their 720p which I believe is where GTA V shines so far

wwinterj
I'm not reading all that sh*t. It's from the PS3 version as R* have said. Have the screens been edited? Yes but it's still the PS3 none the less. The PC version is ported from the console version thus I doubt it even exists yet. If it did R* would have released the PC version alongside the console version don't you think? That's a rhetorical question by the way. Dope_0110
They are just ''embellished'' and rendered specially to be used as screenshots where they made the game load hig res textures even for objects that are pretty far for the camera (you can clearly see that high res are not loaded on those rocks in the infamous scene with the airplane flying over the train bridge, but also elsewhere), and also placing lights in the scene to make it more visually appealing, plus antialiasing etc.. it all makes a beautiful screenshot as always. But that's not the game. Even on PC it won't look like screenshots when it's released, but will look even better once people start messing with it as it's obvious from the screenshot of IV a few posts above. JacoBee
You must be trolling or didn't watch the video more then once if at all since you clearly didn't show the screen shots where they show the bottom layout for the ps3 in the gameplay demo. Did you watch the whole thing since ethics has been confirmed awhile back atleast read his post hes saying those screens are not from pc and alo tells why

S1LV3R_W0LF
I just wanna say 2 things, the first is why do you say an MPEG Layer 4 video screen in 720p isn't HD? A video is a compilation of screenshots in a sequence combined with audio. But the thing about all these great looks in shots and so different from the actual game footage it's not PC for sure and might be explained by something else, something that Rockstar denied to do, but which isn't actually true, otherwise why would they need this? To me it looks like, it's someone to make screenshots and trailers prettier then they actually are.
