  1. 1. Would you like to see more NPC reactions?

    • Yes, I'd love it, it'd add extra challenge to the game

    • I couldn't care less

    • Wouldn't make the game but it might feel like somethings missing if it isn't there

I'll be using scenarios to explain what I'm trying to get across.

In the Grand Theft Auto series we have always had the opportunity to openly point a weapon at someone, however there have always being limited reactions from the NPC's that have weapons pointed at them in the street, they'll either put there hands up temporarily and then run away, just continue to stare at you, or very rarely, pull out a weapon and attack you themselves. There's always being dialogue to support this, but I think that old way's starting to get dry. I haven't really noticed much difference in it, just like various movements and combat stances in the Assassins Creed series.

This is what the old system is somewhat like;

Not really the best I could use, but I couldn't really find any examples of what I mean over google, if anyone can it'd be a great favor to me if you post it here.

This is kinda better, sorry for the size. user posted image

Anyway. Imagine you're Trevor, you hold up your weapon to an innocent bystander, you can imagine them for yourselves, the only difference is this time they don't react the traditional way.

This time they react in a unique way, they could leap to the side and take refugee behind a wheelie bin, they could make a sudden break at your character in an attempt to push them over, they could find an object near them and pick it up, throwing it at the player and causing them to go off balance, the choice is really up to you. Here's some examples.

Say she distracts the gun man and he tackles him.

Say he grabbed the barrel quick enough to pull it away or knock it off direction.

I think you understand what I'm trying to get to here. Please guys, let me know your thoughts and suggest other things that could be brought into the scenario.

I'm setting up a separate poll in another thread because I can't have images + a poll for god knows why :l

Thank you!

Interesting idea, it would be nice to see some variation in the way peds react to you with a gun.

Some of them should give up easily, whilst some of them should choose to try and fight back.

I think RDR improved on GTA IV by allowing you to rob people at gun point (I cant remember if they still run away after a certain amount of time though)

To be honest, putting your hands up and then trying to run away just means I'm gonna blow out the back of your knees devil.gif

They had a few people who had different animations.

Anyone you could perform a special execution move on.

Vlad, Playboy, that last dude

Would be nice to see something similar to that come back on a grander scale.

A bit like that bloke that set Niko up?

Yeah, the set up guy was that last guy I mentioned.

They'd have some lines, Vlad's were funny, and kind of cower away.

I think Billy Grey did something similar in the end of TLaD

I think that was just a really intense mission where you had to shoot Billy at least 12,000 times.

You really shouldnt show that pic of PBX. Yes, it's been a long time, but spoilers man. It's possible someone might have seen GTA V's trailer and then picked up IV as a new fan, stumbled across here and you've ruined it for them. It's not hard.

It's unrealistic to expect a random civilian to try to disarm the gunman - preposterous in fact. Most will freeze, drop to their knees and whimper. Some will run. In IV, they ran off once it looked like you werent going to shoot them and mostly Niko told them to go away.

Do i want every random joe acting like James Bond? No. I want them reacting realistically, and IV got that right i feel apart from running away, but in IV sometimes they just cowered.

Point your gun at a cop or gangmember, however....

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I haven't actually played the PBX choice yet, so I spoiled it for myself, but for any random joe blow I doubt they'd realize it has any significance to the story whatsoever, I can barely tell that's him in all honesty, looks a lot like one of the random blokes you have walking around the ghetto areas.

I get what you're saying with not wanting every single one to act like this, however I think it'd be nice to see some react in a different way, it just adds more challenge when you're out of missions in all honesty, if they install a rob option like RDR this factor could become very vital and make the game much more fun, you wouldn't really need to rob civies for cash problems but for the mere fun of it.

I'd also like them to add more diverse things when you point your weapon at a cop or a banger, I'd like to see the odd one maybe pay you not to do anything or see them trying to talk you out of it, instead of just reacting crazily and ripping out there weapons, trying to blow your head off.

Because its not obvious now sarcasm.gif

On-topic: I think people should atleast not start running away, when i'm still aiming at their face with a gun.

That's a link to this same thread?!

Anyway, it would be an excellent addition but I can't see the NPCs being that intelligent and interactive. I read somewhere (can't be bothered finding the article) that there are more pedestrian interactions - they do stuff like film or react in different ways if threatened rather than just screaming and running all the time!

Doesn't look like the type of man you would want to point a weapon at.

Where is this scene from?

To Brits: isn't that guy in Corrie?

Thank you so much to the MOD who added the poll into the thread!

Yeah mate I saw them say something like that also, however I believe that's when you're performing other crimes, like if you steal a car then a pedestrian may call the cops on you or something, however we don't know for sure, hopefully it might be edited a little!

Variety is always good in my book, this brings the heist mission from San Andreas to mind, cannot recall the name of it but it is in the country and you have to hold up the place with Catalina. I remember being rather appalled at the fact there were 5 or so hostages and you had to switch your gun across all 5 in order for them to keep their hands up. Just seemed really dumb and highly unrealistic.

I was just think guys, what if buildings were more interactive and when we enter one and point a gun/have a gun out a NPC runs for an alarm and tries to pull it, instantly giving the player a 3 star wanted level.
