I'd say some people will probably hold onto their current gen consoles to play GTA V for a while, before trading it in for money for the next gen consoles.

I don't think any of them will affect the other.

GTA V is a current-gen game with absolutely nothing to do with the XOne and the PS4.

Neither will impact the other. GTA V happens to be a game that is being released towards the end of the lifecycle of the current generation of consoles. The PS4 and ONE have their own games that include exclusives and the people who really want to play those games will fork out the dough because that's what they want to play. Those that want to play GTA V will play GTA V.

I think that GTA V will be available on PSN and XBL (nextgen) digitally a while after its release. Just as 3, VC & SA is now.

In addition to what gabrielkipp77 said: the PS3 disc won't play on the PS4 as the PS4 is not going to be backwards compatible. However, Sony are planning on bringing in a service at some point following the PS4's release that allows for the streaming of PS3 games to the PS4 - how this will work exactly (such as whether the PS4 will recognize the PS3 game discs and stream the content accordingly from the cloud or whether you will have to buy the game digitally in order to stream them) is unknown at this point of time.

As for GTA V affecting next-gen console sales and vice versa - not a chance. Given that the next gen consoles aren't backwards compatible, and that the next gen consoles are going to be relatively cheap as compared to the current gen consoles when they were first released; I don't think that people will be parting way with their current gen consoles for a while yet - and if people are planning on buying a next gen console; GTA V's release isn't exactly going to stop them either.

Well I'm pretty sure GTA 5 will eventually be released on Next Gen so people are gonna buy it anyways whether its now or later.

I'd say neither.

They WILL release a next-generation version of this game, no doubt about it. Even after GTA V is released on Xbox 360 / PS3 there are still several top tier planned games for them right through until mid 2014.

Pre order sales for the consoles are going pretty well. Then again you can't really compare a videogame to a console since they are two separate entities.

However I do find it interesting that a lot of experts are discussing this which just goes to show you how big this game is going to be.

Very few people buy next gen consoles on the release date, or even within the first 6 months. Also, its not like next gen consoles being release will suddenly cause all current gen consoles to vanish.

Exactly! I will buy PS4 and GTAV both the day they come out. (I probably won't be playing on my PS4 though wink.gif )

If I was to pick I'd say GTA V would affect PS4/One. It isn't going to stop everyone buying a next gen consoles but it will hold people off for a while. Not a lot of people can or will buy a next gen console on release day.

Personally I'm happy with my PS3. There are loads of games I still want to play on it. I will be playing GTA V for years to come so I'll be keeping my PS3 until it comes out on PS4 which it will but how/when? I don't know.

If GTAV wasnt coming out on xbox360 then I would definately have spent this summer looking forward to a new console come november. But because I know I will be playing V for at least a year I really have no interest in buying a next gen console for now. However if V was announced in say november that it was gonna be next gen come april/may then I would start saving now!!!

So theres your proof! I may be only 1 sale but that 1 sale still effects the final count even if its only by 1 so its safe to say that GTAV will effect the sales of next gen consoles #Fact

Next gen won't mean anything for GTA V, since GTA V comes out at least a month before any of those consoles. If people have even just a little interest in GTAV, they'll hold back on trading in their old consoles one more month. It's not exactly rocket science.

SA didn't come to the Xbox 360. It was simply the Xbox game being released on the Xbox Live marketplace, because it was one of the games that was supported by the 360's backwards compatibility. So no.

Well that would be what they would do for the PS4 and Xbox One then. People who think Rockstar are going to re-write the game for the new consoles are deluded. As soon as GTA V is out they'll start working on the next game. Once GTA V is out, that's it.

The game would have to be ported for the Xbox One at least. GTA V was built for the 360 hardware, so it would likely take some adjustments to make it run properly on the Xbox One. They can not just release the same game with the same code, when there is no backwards compatibility built into the machine. Even if it is just minor details, some adjustments are very likely to be needed.

In the case of the PS4, Sony have that streaming service of theirs that enables people to buy PS3 games and stream them to their PS4, so GTA V will without a doubt be able on there.

So yeah, GTA V will, in a way, be available on the PS4. Xbox One on the other hand will require a bit more work.

Who the hell buys next gen consoles at launch?

And the people that say GTA V currently looks more interesting than the entire next gen launch line-up, aren't the only ones that say this. After that gameplay trailer, a lot of gamers on different forums have shown interest in GTA V again. I guess Rockstar knows what they do.

The next-gen consoles will barely have any impact on the sales of V, that's sure. The console base of the seventh generation growed pretty fast, but the introduction of HD-TV played an important role, as far as I'm aware. It's questionable though that 3D-TV will have the same effect as its predecessor. The PS3 sold 10.53 million times between the launch in November 2006 and the end of the third fiscal quarter in December 2007. And Xbox 360 sold 7.6 million times between the launch in November 2005 and the end of the second fiscal quarter in December 2006. That are ~18 million consoles that were sold if we count the first year sales together, compared to the more than 150 million consoles that are currently on the market.

Given the different circumstances of the market right now, the new consoles may (or may not) sell a little slower, although the longtime sales still can be great. If that's the case, then that makes it even more unlikely that they will affact GTAV's sales. Though, it's unlikely either way since there are far more customers that own a PS3/X360 than there are customers that will own a PS4/X1 and that for the foreseeable future. Besides, the game releases in September, while Sony and Microsoft will launch the new consoles sometime between October and December.

IV sold 11 million copies in the first month, and chances are that GTAV will surpass that easily, at least that's what I think.

On a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny scale GTA 5 has already affected the sales of the next gen. It's my case! I know i am a needle in a haystack but it is true.

My trusty 6 years old Xbox 360 died on me 2 months ago. I decided i wouldn't buy another one because maybe GTA 5 will be available on new consoles at launch. Guess what it isn't so i decided to get a PS3. This means that i won't be buying any new console until mid of 2014.

So in my case GTA 5 affected 1 sale smile.gif

Why would it matter? It's not like they launch at the same time. Once the next-gen consoles are released all the talk will be about their games and how pretty they look etc, GTA V will not play a role in it anymore.

It would have been strategically stupid from R* and TakeTwo to release the game for next-gen consoles.

Both answers are retarded. Because there is only one proper answe: both will affect each other.
