vivalavendredi
I saw that article here, I'm not sure if this was posted before. It's basically a sum up of the interview in the french magazine last week, but it's not a google translate at least Summary: - very intense missions from the start - heavy artillery early in the game - every thing the protags do (in a mission) has a reason http://www.oxm.co.uk/58495/gta-5-is-much-f...-for-no-reason/ EDIT: The Author wrote: Update - I've changed the headline to reflect the fact that The Benz' comments about "doing crazy things for no reason" apply to character antics in missions, rather than what's possible in GTA 5's open world. Apologies for any confusion. So this sentence about reasons only matches of missions, not what we can do off-mission Edited July 17, 2013 by vivalavendredi
imnottpain
Very nice. Glad to see a complete confirmation that they are sticking with the old but keeping some of the newer GTA concepts. usually i would rather like to have the more exciting missions towards the end of the story, but they are doing it to further engross the player, so it's all good. EDIT: Also, I am enthralled that we get to see a bit of each character before we have the choice to pick them all. This will mean that I will possibly have an even harder time picking which character i wanna play. Edited July 17, 2013 by imnottpain
DrProfessor
"You won't see anyone doing crazy things for no reason" Did I read this right? Does that mean no rampages off-mission?

It should point out, that everything the protags do WHEN on a mission, has a reason. What we do off mission is still in our hands!

I haven't actually read the article but i take it they mean there is a reward for everything, if you decide to go on a rampage it will be more worth while than it has been in the past. It should point out, that everything the protags do WHEN on a mission, has a reason. What we do off mission is still in our hands! ALL it really mean is that we will not see Michael eating flowers in a cutscene. Neither will we see a cutscene showing Michael using a gun that has dubstep music coming out of it as he uses it....and no we won't see Trevor jumping 10 feet high and do 4 backflips in the air or whatever. that sh*t is crazy and belongs to this retarded Saints Row crap.....lel Okay that was not really my point....just sayin I think it's safe to assume they're talking about/referring to CUTSCENES when they said that. and that just results in us not seeing a character doing anything totally OUT of character, that would JUMP THE SHARK story wise or whatever. So yeah off mission, as you play, you can almost do anything you want (maybe only limited by your imagination)...in cutscenes you get to see an image of your character though, behaving in a certain way that is NOT crazy relating to their persona..or whatever ;D

visionist
But I thought Michael didn't want a life of Crime in LS? Isn't he sucked into it again? If we indeed start as him (extremely likely) how can his very first mission be an "intense battle" with "heavy artillery"?

If we indeed start as him (extremely likely) how can his very first mission be an "intense battle" with "heavy artillery"? They didn't say the first mission will feature heavy artillery … but earlier then in the old games, so all the missions might be more action packed (less driving around just to find out where someone lives and stuff we had in GTA IV) So maybe the 3rd mission of Franklin for example might already have grenades and stuff and not only baseball bats, as it was in some of the older GTAs And talking 'bout Michael… as seen in the first trailer he said he wanted to live in Los Santos as a family man but "we know how it is" - so his money might be gone and the only thing he can do as business is crime and / or he is forced by someone (FIB internals or other stuff)
Evil.Tim
I keep hearing all these cool new features (this time the heavy artillery) but I'm afraid we'll only be able to use half of them in one mission and then never see them again. I never got that logic, if they already went through the trouble of programming it all, why not let us use it whenever we want? I'm just guessing, obviously, but it's been like this many times before with Rockstar's games. I have the same feeling about repelling, it'll probably be a one-time thing in that one mission which will be a damn shame. Still a good read, though. When it comes to weapons I'm sure this time we can use all the ones from mission even in free roaming. I hope this also will be when it comes to equipment like that rappelling stuff or - maybe - nightvision goggles!

My disappointment when I realized the truck-surfing minigame was relegated to one mission in IV was sharp & profound. Imagine if they bought it back as a free roam feature... ...it isn't like they haven't already written the code for the RAGE engine...
