You buy for a price, if the company does well or is perceived well, then the stock goes up and is worth more. Then, you can sell it and take the profit, or wait for it to go up more. The down side is the stock could go down and you loose money.

I tried to make it very simple for you tounge.gificon14.gif

I could give you a lengthy explanation or refer you tot google, but I won't. The info-graphic below is how the stock exchange works, the core of this will also be in V, dumbed down of course.

It's simple, like guessing if the next card will be higher or lower.

You buy stock when their value is low, wait for them to get high, sell.

Though, we don't know yet how will the prices change and what may affect it. A realistic approach would be if you rob a bank it's stocks (if it's listed) should lose a lot of value, and so you buy them. Then, you wait a while, they get back to business, stock prices go up and you sell, earning a huge profit. But as I said, we know nothing about it yet.

Buy it, wait till it goes up, sell it. If everything crashes and you lose all your money, jump out a window.

This is really all there is to it, but the future is uncertain.

Lucky for me it is my day job in real life.

Hopefully its like real life... if a major event happens many companies decrease in value or even increase massively.

For example security camera company maybe value at 0.60 a share before a heist then after the heist in theory should increase that companies shares 1.20+

it would be interesting to see how the stock thing actually works and how in depth it really is.

Ya if its realistic....then we're all screwed. I sure as hell don't know anything either about stocks...so I'm gonna probably stay away from that feature of the game. Unless they make it really simple

Miss Darko

It should be relatively simple. Kinda like real life, and especially to parody it, it seems like it'll be mainly be about being lucky. Buy stocks when you feel it's the right time (I'm guessing that the prices will change sort of randomly each day, so keep an eye on something for a while until you notice it being lower than usual), then sell when you can make some profit. It's a fairly simple concept even in real life, the difficult part is knowing how to maximize profits given that you can't really predict what's going to happen, you can only rely on trends. And when the market crashes, that's when people start getting desperate to sell stock before prices drop even lower. Which can create a vicious cycle because that makes sh*t even worse.

But basically yeah, I think that's basically how it works in the game. You can buy and sell whenever you want, and the price of the stock randomly changes each day or so (often it probably won't change at all), so basically it's just up to you to keep an eye on the prices to decide when to buy and when to sell. Probably no complex game mechanics there.

One reason you hear about people holding onto stocks for years at a time, waiting and waiting for the 'perfect opportunity' to sell them, is that typically you buy a very large number of them, in the thousands. You spend a lot, but you can also make a lot of profit... if things go your way. The issue is that just a few cents of fluctuation can make a huge difference in how much profit you make, because you are planning to sell so many. So people will let good opportunities pass by, in hopes of even better opportunities that may very well never come.

I know enough about stocks to be scared of it in the real world. Maybe. Buy Lockheed Martin and Boeing, if anything war makes a killing. Amunation would be a good stock in game I would imagine. And maybe something you do ingame will raise or lower stocks.

In other news in real world there was a meme that featured a red button and a green button. You could get an instant 1 million dollars with the red button and 50/50 chance at 100 million with the green button.

Here's the kick, many picked the red button but also added that they would invest in the money, raise capital, start a business, you know go broke within a year. They would have been better off picking the green button.

Good question though, this should be interesting in the game.

Btw the infographic was quite helpful. icon14.gif

Don't worry OP. It's just trading, it's like gambling essentially. I'm sure there will be a tutorial, and you won't have to worry about external conditions like in real life, the economy will be pretty simple and straightforward. You buy stocks for cheap as possible, and sell them for a profit. It's just like trading anything else except with an element of uncertainty.

You'll be fine,. Also, i'm hoping we can insider trade and engage in sabotage etc. That would be awesome.

I am actually kinda looking forward to this... It looks interesting and we might be able to make a little fortune with that option.

I just hope there's a tutorial or a guide for this... tounge.gif

GTA gives you a tutorial on how to walk at the beginning of the game. I think we can safely assume they will give a tutorial for this too.

I'm no stock expert myself, but I'm sure that if will be streamlined to be useful, fun, and have a user friendly learning curve within the game.

By becoming a stockholder you invest in a company, which will raise the company's overall worth if the business model and products/services are sustainable/popular. You will have to decide when the best moment would be to sell part or all of your stock, preferably if the price of that particular stock is higher than when you invested. A lot of things can influence the stock price so it can be a gamble.

It would be interesting if there was a mission to influence the stock price of a company of which the player holds stock.

I'm wondering how this actually works.

I mean, if you buy a number of stocks from let's say the hamburgers company and you go there and buy plenty of them, will that make your stocks increase? Or can you rob some places, their stocks crash, buy for a bargain and then don't rob them again and wait till their stocks raise again?

I'm just speculating because I don't know whats stocks you can buy, but I'm wondering if they will be from active businesses or companies that you can somehow interact with. Should be interesting to see.

Hell yes, my hobby is in my other hobby. I am relly excited to see, which ingame events have an influence on the stock prices. There are countless influences, that determine the behaviour of investors. It's hard to imagine, that it can be implemented in the game halfway realistic.

If they add this and not the Chinatown Wars drug dealing minigame, I'll be pissed. It's not that I don't want in-game stocks, I just want drug dealing more.

Just buy some 'Ammunation' stocks at the beginning of the game.

While you proceed through the storyline, they will easily rise a lot and go through the roof... tounge2.gif

Buy cheap, sell when they've gone up. Simple as that.

Basically. icon14.gif

Also you can manipulate the share price too. If Ammunation or LS Customs sees good trade the share price increases.
