They will probably just have 16 players again, but don't worry about it feeling empty, because the map size won't really matter. Everyone will be spawning up each other's arses at the airport (or wherever the new spot is) and running around endlessly shooting each other in a boring game of deathmatch without any score.

Do we really need more players for that?

I don't think rockstar won't take care of this issue... the gta4 multiplayer was definately boring in puplic games. I think they had problems with the big game engine in general and could not take a even decent look on the mp, they just put it in as an extra because they already had their big map.

"Don't waste resources, write a netcode before dinner let's throw dem players together in the City!"

They will be able to take much more work in the multiplayer now that they know how their engine works. Also they wouldn't make such a big deal about the MP if it was like GTA4's... I can't remember hearing them talking about a "great multiplayer experience" back in 2008.

I hope you're right. But my fear is they will just add a bunch of game mode markers around the map like in RDR, and a few heists and call that a day. While RDR was more fun, it still generally turned in to a boring radar blip chasing fest just like IV did, with everyone running around Armadillo instead of an airport.

They will need to have something extra that people will actually want to engage in that is actually meaningful, not just gang hideouts that are repetitive and boring deathmatches with no real meaning to them.

I hope they have done much more to actually make multiplayer unique.

Number 19 doesn't mean he is 19th in the session. It's just nicknames.

So you think they'd just skip around like GTADev19 when there's no 17 or 18? No. It's organized. GTADev1 through GTADev19. It goes in order so it doesn't get confusing. The way they test multiplayer is fill up all the slots. To make it easier they make sure all the players are in order. It's logical. Why would they skip around numbers when they're improving it/testing the multiplayer?

I sum my earlier post quick up to you:

- lets say 25 developers, named ingame gtadev1 - gtadev25

- 16 player maximum ingame

--> several developers are busy because of other work to do (in this case no. 5 and 13)

---> number 18 and 19 play instead

===> the list is not chronological

I still think there's 19 players in that game. It must have been all hands on deck to make that part of the video. We'll see soon when they reveal the details about multiplayer.

MAG the first person shooter for PS3 had 256 players online, though not a huge open world game, 256 players is HUGE. So yes, consoles can do huge numbers.

They can if the servers are dedicated. Surely not 256 players but maybe around 64. Only part I'm worried about is when all players meet up in a single place and start blowing sh*t up. That's when the framerate goes in the sh*tter and your PS3/360 could end up blowing up. Never know, R* could have optimized the game to handle it. I'm going on a limb to say we'll have at least 32 players.

Microsoft have dedicated servers , I don't know about Sony

Grand Theft Auto Online is going to be epic. Just flat out epic.

I seriously want to go diving with friends, submarining too.

Oh, and then kill them. >.> Lots. Shark Attack Deathmatch style. I liked how some of the peds in V's trailer were fatter, didn't see a lot of realistic body types in IV, you saw them here or there, but not like V has so far.

I really do hope there's a wide variety of GTA:Online character body types to choose from, buncha fatties running down the road, holding down a donut shop and doing a cop survival there would be pretty awesome stuff indeed!

Hopefully they still let us change the settings unlike Red Dead and Max Payne where things were split up into unorganized playlists where people only played Soft Lock/Casual Modes. Also hopefully they don't bring health regen and stupid xp sh*t like RDR and MP3. Money should be used to buy things for a our character, doesn't make sense we have to get to a certain level to buy a gun in MP3.

i know i posted this earlier but just wanna quote my theory from earlier

to see if you guys think it could work like this, hopefully you understand what im saying

"Im just thinking if there going for the whole MMO

They can easily put in more than 24, hell more than 64

its a little trick, that DC Universe uses

other than your friends or Clan,,,,

there can only be about 16 players you can physically see in one area, and lets say your locking at one going parked far down the road, you turn your head to the other side you lock back, there another player instead,,, when the player you where looking at didn't move

so basically the Online interchange in real time, people will disappear in out off many different sub servers and you will see different players

so when player 16 is in your line of sight he will stay there, but soon as you lock away, and lock back you will see player 47 or something

it works fine in DCU so it can work well in this too, its an illusion to make the world look bigger

obviously this is when not involved in activity

basically you go into a "Server" but your char is in a Sub server, and Sub servers keep interchanging in that Server your in, if you understand"

I think GTAVDev19 and GTAVDev18 show that there has to be more than 16 players ... I can see 24 players being the max. 20 minimum.

Based on your logic i Had to have literally counted to 9001 out loud in real life, even though you only heard / saw the first and last three numbers.

We've only seen 16 players at one time, and i seriously doubt that they would hold back showing more players if they could do more players.

The gamertags means nothing... they just have more accounts so that they can test the game many times at different locations at the same time (and have multiple lobbies going at the same time, etc).

Don't expect too much, you will only be disappointed. Expect less and you might get a happy surprise! smile.gif

Oh, shut up, i spent countless hours in GTA IV's multiplayer and it definitely doesn't feel boring or put at the last minute and i rather play this than any COD multiplayer game where you just shoot or camp. At least here you have variety .

We saw 16 players in a single screen. Not to mention we saw gtadev19, hinting at more players.

Thats the same thing I was thinking. There are more than 16 Play testers/developers. We just saw 16 at once, people can dream if they want and I would like more but personally I won't fret if its only 16. My crew will start small anyhow, and build to a very large number. Since the heists usually require between 3-6 players, this is more than enough to have crew battles for money with a Player cap of 16.

Looking at the image... I think that's just his crew. Looks pretty damn awesome.

Think about it. In every recent game by Rockstar, separate players had their own unique color. Even in Free Roam. And in Red Dead Redemption, as well as Max Payne 3, your posse/teammates are all viewed as white. Now, on the minimap, you can see icons. Those are probably activities you can do yourself or with crew members.

online gameplay video release date 07/13/13

O rly?

Anyway, I am just getting high off of how they may be taking this online mode. Since seeing the skillbars that were relative to each switchable character, I'd think these may also be applicable in the online mode. Through doing things like working up your athleticism, gun skill, by playing sports and using guns against others, your level would increase, RPG style. Then people would form groups and compete against other gangs in the games to accumulate some sort of rank.

Soooo psyched

Adding onto my previous post... I'm probably being pretty optimistic here, but I'd say the game can have up to 32 players. If my theory is correct, that would be 16 players on one team/posse/crew. That would mean your crew can face off against another 16 players, wouldn't it? 16 + 16 = 32. But a number this large would probably only be available for certain modes, such as Gang Wars (a mode from Max Payne 3).

32 players will be for sure involved in free roam if that number is possible , not just gang wars
