PC Player buying the Xbox 360 version

Been playing GTA 4 on PC for about 4 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I originally picked up GTA 4 for the Xbox 360 back in 2008 because it was presumed that it would never come to PC. Well we now know that Rockstar North is pretty much destined to follow suit with GTA 5 based on past experience.

Once I picked up 4 for the PC I pretty much never touched my Xbox again after all these years. I remember thinking to myself that the PC version was better, but not by a lot (talking no mods here.)

Then today I decided to dust off my 360 to make sure it works and is in order for when 5 launches. I would love to get 5 for PC but I know it'll be 6-8 months before we see it, and I can't wait that long so I'll do what I did last time. Buy it for the console then pick it up again later for the PC.

Well... my god. I do NOT remember GTA 4 running THIS BADLY on the console. 20 frames per second average. Horrible blur from sub-HD resolutions. Texture and object pop in beyond acceptability. I am desperately concerned for my experience with GTA 5 on this crappy old platform sad.gif

Tomorrow (7/9/2013) we get first glimpse of actual gameplay and get to find out just how poorly the game runs, but any other GTA 4 PC players who will be picking up 5 for the consoles, fear for their experience?

Honestly if your game runs that bad, your console is borked. I can't take anyone seriously when they complain how the console runs at like 15 fps, then again, fanboys are the queens of the hyperbole.

If you think it looks that bad then just wait 6 months for the PC/next gen versions.

Then go make your own open-world game.

Certain DVD drives, in older 360's, have a VERY hard time playing RAGE games.

Even if the game is loaded to HDD, these DVD drives cause major pop-in/texture issues.

You seem very optimistic about the game confused.gif

I also don't see the point of this thread. What exactly are we supposed to discuss, how bad the console versions will be? They have fully optimized the engine for this gen unlike with GTA 4, and they said the view distance is very high, AND they've had a long time to polish and optimize, with the delay and all, so there's really nothing to worry about at all.

If they show gameplay it will probably be running on pc(a dev kit of sorts) so any gameplay faults might not be that apparent. Or I could be totally wrong just typing out my butt.

Except I'm not exaggerating. The consoles DO run the game HORRIBLY compared to what modern PC's can run it at. This is with a brand new game. My save file on my 360 with a finished game probably averages 20-25 frames per second...

Again, that's because the engine wasn't fully optimized. RDR not only looked better than 4, but it ran a lot better as well. If you want to complain about the console version, then just wait for the PC version. There's nothing they can do, really. Seeing as if they want the game to never go below 30, they will have to sacrifice on graphics, and you know how many graphics whores are going to be raging from that lmao.

What's to fan boy about? It's concrete fact that you cannot deny. It is not opinion, it is objective fact that the PC version is far superior to the console version. This is by design as PC's scale constantly to improve while consoles only see improvements in new generations every 6-8 years.

Unless you think a chugging along slide show of blurry sub 720p resolution gameplay is better than 60 frames per second constant very high textures and shadow quality and 1080p+ resolutions...

You do realise first of all, you aren't used to it. Secondly, it was their first HD GTAgame on this generation, so of course their optimization would be a tad bit bad because they weren't used to the consoles, ESPECIALLY the PS3 but IV was ported from 360 to PS3. This time, it's going to look much better.

I seriously hope so. This is my biggest concern, is that years of playing an HD GTA game on PC will spoil my experience with the latest game when I play it on consoles. Yeah I know "just wait for PC then." But come on, it is bull that R* treats PC players as second rate customers. Is our money not of the same value as console players?

Either way, I am not being pessimistic here I am really hopeful that GTA 5 will have tackled the performance issues which plagued GTA 4, but I just can't help but feel like I'm destined to be disappointed when I actually feel it playing in my hands due to consoles running hardware from 2005 =/

Yes 25-30 is about right, but 15? That's an obvious exaggeration or your console is broken, either or, games do not run at 15 fps on console.

Obviously the future PC version will run and look better, if you want to wait then wait, it probably won't have the optimization issues IV had either.

As for GTA IV.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/grand-th...special-article

An old comparison someone made with the first trailer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/grand-th...special-article EDIT: The video is gone as the upload apparently got banned. Here's another one: http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1144966/gta_5...comparison.html

V will undoubtedly look and run better given the improvements RDR had, it should be an improvement over RDR as well given the extra years of development and the evolution of the engine.

Thread starts with performance speculation, all hell breaks loose, as always

OT: if you are coming from the PC background, you will always be dissapointed with the console performance, so just suck it up and deal with it or wait, no sense causing a ruckus in the forums for something you will never be able to deal with.

Wow another PC fanboy.

You're making it sound like GTA IV is horrible on PS3 and 360. PC was a port from console. Which is why it ran sh*tty for most people. GTA IV ran 720p on 360. Not sub HD. What ever makes you feel better at night I guess. I'm not in a mood for a console war if someone wants to take my place so be it. Have fun with GTA V on PC. I had fun with Red Dead Redemption too.
