Exxon
Hi guys, My computer is overheating a bit if you'd ask me. What components I have in my computer are to be seen in my signature, but I'll copy them for you CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k 3.4 GHz MOBO: AsRock P67 PRO3 (B3) GPU: MSI R6950 TF II 810/1250 RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz PSU: XFX PRO550W Core Edition HDD: Samsung 1.0 TB 7200 RPM OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CASE: Zalman Z9 + Extra Aerocool Fan Now, normally the temperatures are: GPU: 64C CPU: 55C HDD: 26C But now, due to the weather being f*cking hot ever here in Holland, temperatures have risen to: GPU: 76C CPU: 66C HDD: 34C Is this harmful for the components? I'm planning on putting a fan (a big one, you know what I mean) on my desk blowing air in my face and into the computer, but will that help? Thanks in advance, Exxon
SilverRST
Are those hot temps on under load or not stressed? And yeah, true, Holland is getting too hot and it's bad for my laptop. Dust in the fan and impossible to open it. And are you using the stock Intel CPU cooler?
friendly luggage
My temps have gone up quite a bit too. I would remove any overclocks, and ensure that you have at least an intake and exhaust fan. The desk fan would only really help if it was blowing into the case with the side panel off. Lots of dust would build up but you'd be fine as long as no pets touch it. I would recommend an after market cooler for you processor.
Trund
Your normal temperatures are horrible already. I have the same CPU, running at 3.6GHz, and my temps are around 30c or lower on idle, and don't go over 50c on load even with warm outside temperatures. All I have is one big 120mm fan in the bottom front to blow air in and a custom CPU cooler with two fans, nothing too fancy really. With the GPU it also depends a lot on the cooling it has. When I got my 560ti 448 I made sure to get one with two coolers, which works flawless. A lot of GFX Cards come with crappy cooling but you could add a custom cooler to it as well. Anyways first thing you should do is check for dust in the cooling parts, maybe even apply a new thermal paste on the CPU, but if you don't have a custom cooler I'd suggest getting one. corvettelover
If you by any chance have a automotive air compressor with a "air gun" attachment, use it. Works great for practically everything, I use mine for everything, including dusting our PC, make sure it's up to atleast 60psi or it won't work so hot, atleast 100psi would be ideal IMO. Narcis_speed6
You should consider cleaning it, btw what cooler are you using for CPU?
Exxon
These temperatures are when it's under load. I was playing Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 (demo) at pretty high settings first, after that I played GRID 2 maxed out. When idle, the temperatures are around: GPU: 45C CPU: 30-35C HDD: 24C (This is during winter) As for the fans: the HDD doesn't have a fan for cooling, the GPU has the Twin Frozr II (double fan) on it, and the CPU cooler is the stock Intel one. I don't have money to buy anything new, but I can try dusting the case out. I haven't done that in quite some time now.

My HIS ICQ Turbo 6790 runs at ~40c idle (stock gateway PC other than the GPU, so no aftermarket cooling, just a exhaust fan and a CPU fan) and that's even after I overclocked it a bit in Catalyst. So I'd guess that's good enough, and my 6790 only has the ICQ heatsink anymore, the fan is a aftermarket Antec(?) fan without a shroud. Dust it definantly, but I wouldn't be worried about those temps at all. Summer here, about mid to high 90's (had a day or two where it was a bit over 100 outside) during the day, 70s-80s at night. Exxon
^ And in degrees Celsius, that is? But I've dusted out the fans, the CPU has lowered around 5C, maybe a little more, so that problem has been solved. As for the GPU, it has lowered, maybe 2C or 3C, but I guess it's something. Any other advice?

Any other advice? Outdoors temps are fahrenheit, if they were celcius it'd be pretty damn hot, I was tired when I wrote that lol. No other advice on what you can do for free, keep the case side on if it's off IMO. Those temps seem fine though, I don't think you can get a whole lot cooler without sinking some money into the system. So unless I'm missing something, under load the GPU is ~73c and idle it's ~42c? I think under load my 6790 is ~69c or around that, and IIRC both our cards are very similar power consumption/heat wise, so I'd guess you're pretty much good to go there. I don't know for sure if the other temps are good, but they look it to me.
