Favorite FPS:

Far Cry 3

Big world, great gunplay, good story and very fun overall. Although multiplayer was horrible the single player made up for it.

 

Hated FPS:

Battlefield 3

Just a Call of Duty/Bad Company hybrid. Took most of the good features out of Battlefield and eliminated the need for teamwork.

I enjoy all FPS games tbh. But the one that stands out is Counter Strike Source, the first time I played I was hooked. Played at least 5 hours a day.

Fallout NV for me. IF you don't count that as a wholly FP experience, I would then go with Left 4 Dead. Both are fun games I've played the hell out of.

 

Black Ops for worst. I threw several items at my wall playing it, beat the sh*t out of my knees and the floor, and got yelled at for yelling on multiple occasions. Wasn't even that satisfying of an ending either.

FPS is pretty broad.

 

For singleplayer there could be hundreds that are amazing, Fallout/Mirror's Edge/Rainbow Six Vegas/Black/Goldeneye etc.

 

So I will only mention multiplayer.

 

Best Multiplayer FPS: Battlefield Bad Company 2 (And Vietnam DLC) + Battlefield 2 (PC), Rainbow Six: Vegas (1&2)

 

Worst Multiplayer FPS: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Homefront.

 

 

MW2 was the root cause of why gaming is uber sh*te now. Some people say it started with CoD4, but I think it was MW2 that just made it f*cking stupid and what really ruined most modern games further down the line as they attempted to copy the success.

I don't really play Multiplayer FPS, I only play them for the story.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2.

Black Ops 2.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

Half-Life 2.

Far Cry 3. (Although I feel it's a more Open-World game)

Counter Strike 1.6 + Condition Zero.

Crysis

Medal of Honor: Spearhead.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault: First few missions were good but it got boring pretty quick.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 3: Good story, but other than that it felt exactly the same as MW2.

 

I don't really dislike FPS'es as you can see. As long as the story's good, I'm not bothered, but MW3 felt really like MW2.5.

Best: COD 4, MW2, MW3 (MW3 being my most favorite out the three)

Worst: Homefront. I rented this game i didn't even buy it, but even renting it i felt like I'd been ripped off. Dogsh*t. And Black Ops + Black Ops 2. Hate these games online.

I don't play FPS very much but from my experience thus far;

 

Best SP: Half-Life 1

Best MP: TF2 and America's Army 2

 

Worst SP: Can't say, single player tends to be always pretty good for me.

Worst MP: America's Amy 3 and Black Ops (Zombies was ok).

Definitely agree. I adore CoD 4 on the PC. With pro-mod, dedicated servers and

it was just as community-driven, deep and enjoyable as any other PC FPS (the maps were great but too small though). The SP was great too, if a little over the top at times.

 

MW2, however, was a travesty. Barring a few admittedly very good missions in the campaign (Cliffhanger and one of the bits in Washington), it was awful. The multiplayer stripped away almost everything that made CoD 4 good (the community spirit, the mod teams, the excellent maps) and replaced it with cheap kills, death-streaks, ridiculously overpowered guns, lens flare and gaming's worst match-making system. I'll admit that I did play MW2's multiplayer and enjoyed it for some time as some of the features like Cold Blooded Pro and multiple weapon attachments were quite promising, but in the end I just realised that the game was a mess compared to CoD 4. Although MW2 wasn't the worst FPS I've ever played, it was a huge disappointment after the brilliance of CoD 4 and responsible for ruination of other games which attempted to mimic it. The really sad part is that the game would've been far better with the inclusion of dedicated servers and the removal of most of it's "innovative" new features.

 

Best SP FPS: The original Crysis or HL2 and its episodes. Not sure if Deus Ex: HR and Dishonoured count as FPS.

 

Best MP FPS: CoD 4 or CS.

 

Worst SP FPS: Wolfenstein (new version), MW2.

 

Worst MP FPS: Also MW2.

If I had to pick just one for the category and the topic title suggest that then the best FPS title goes to Half-Life.

That game changed everything and the atmosphere of the Black Mesa is something that left marks too deep to be covered with something else. Definitely one of the best games on the market and the best FPS ever.

 

The title of the worst one goes to anything that is short and unispired. That label can be placed on many FPS games on the market, so it's hard to pick one of them, but if I really had to it would be probably something with Call of Duty in the title. We didn't get all this technological advancement to get 4 hours long linear campaigns.

 

I am not very keen on MP, so I won't be giving any examples

The Multiplayer, Teamwork, Weapon Sounds (Though I think the DAO-12 is enhanced from it's real counterpart), the Atmosphere.
