GTA IV.

TBOGT was a little over the top, and TLAD was okay.

There's always something unrealistic in all GTA's. Nevertheless, I voted for GTA IV.

I doubt flying 40 feet out of your car window in a car crash is realism.

GTA IV. As said before though, every GTA game has something unrealistic in it.

IV's story was a little over the top, so I'll give it to TLAD, which was more grounded.

Grand Theft Auto 1 and its expansions without a doubt. It's got its less realistic moments (carrying three two handed weapons at once?), but it was by far the most realistic game in the series. One shot could kill you, car was barely usable after a jump and the missions looked like they were taken straight from the news.

Bump.

Both GTA IV and The Lost and Damned took a more realistic (or at least believable) approach than the rest of the titles. But the question is, which one of the two is more realistic or believable?

I personally think it's The Lost and Damned, simply because missions aren't one man army jobs anymore, they became cooperative. And fortunately, that doesn't hurt the gameplay's experience. In fact, it can be even more entertaining.

Definitely III. The sounds, the map, the ambience, the details, the music - a true masterpiece that lets you immerse into it.

VC is a nice sandbox, but it has a tiny map, idealised 80-ies atmosphere, and generally not at all realistic.

Same with V - it's too goofy. Every single thing in it is a spoof of something, there's excessive swearing on the radio, there are unrealistic adverts scattered everywhere - and then there is a circular road that goes from LS to... LS.

SA comes pretty close - it has unrealistic elements, but thanks to its size you can actually escape to an area that will create an illusion of realism. E.g. - driving Sadsh*t into the desert to watch the sunset is a pretty realistic experience.

IV is just ugh. It tried really hard to be a grown up realistic GTA, but there's a million of tiny things that take away that illusion. If you're taking a screenshot, sure, it makes a great picture, but once you move the whole realism starts falling apart.

San Andreas- Yes it doesn't have realistic physics and graphics but it has some features that make it more realistic than any other GTA  like you have to eat to stay healthy, you can go to gym and become muscular, get haircut and tattoos.

You can go inside and rob random houses.

The paramedics and firefighter s actually doing their job.

Your driving and shooting improves as you progress through the game

All these rpg elements make it feel like real life.

GTA V does bring back some of these features but in limited aspect. But it does a fair job in depicting realism in other aspects

GTA IV tried to be realistic but overexaggerated with physics.

Like who tf bounces that much on the road after diving off a car or flys through the windshield 500m into the air or survive a headshot.

So as far as realism goes it goes like this

San Andreas>GTA V>>>GTAIV>>>>Rest

GTA 1 honestly... you had a certain amount of lives and a realistic ammo limit.

GTA IV obviously.

Since it's a video game of course it has to make some concessions to accommodate gameplay mechanics. R* weren't trying to make a true to life simulator, but it's the closest thing we're ever going to get within the confines of a GTA game.

GTA IV is the most consistently realistic whether people like it or not. Where other GTA games might have some realistic features they're let down in other areas that make them absurd and breaks the illusion be it floating health/armour/police bribes icons, special abilities, over the top weapons etc.

GTA 5! It’s so realistic and has such a great story it’ll make you cry!!! Just kidding GTA 4. What makes 4 so realistic is the storytelling as well as other things. In the story, You’re to make certain decisions which could effect how the game ends which is realistic because in life, we have to make certain decisions but it’s up to us to make the right one

IV. I mean none of them become totally realistic, but IV comes the closest. The only things that will break the realism would be the physics at points but that's more so how the game is played.

No GTA is completely realistic. The closest is IV.

The story is the most believable to date, the gunplay and physics, especially driving is quite close to reality albeit a bit exaggerated.

Even though IV is far away from Realism, it still can be the most realistic in gameplay(ignore my other comments i just like f*ckin around),but that might not be older titles fault not being more realistic than others(newers), don't get impressed by visual effects by the way
