JW599
Does anyone have any estimation as to the future value of the collector's edition? I was thinking of buying one for investment purposes, along with the official limited edition hardback strategy guide. Both will be kept sealed for a sale on eBay when it becomes hard to find. Would you think it's worth the effort, or could the cost actually be reduced? Many thanks.
Polish_Trucker
Well.. you could get your money back, but it would have to be minter than mint! Snobs.. er, I mean collectors like mints.

Mmmm, the complete edition doesn't appeal to me, although I see this as a small money making opportunity. A supermarket here in the UK are taking pre-orders for just £110. wwinterj
I've never found it to be worth the effort but with that said I've seen collectors editions of games sell for crap loads when they become hard to find. The thing is though it takes years for the game to reach that statues so it's not exactly a "quick buck".

brian.
You won't ever get more than the purchase value on it. Further, you likely won't ever beat whatever gamestop will give you for the used standard edition. Seriously. You will need to find someone who cannot live without it. And they already ordered it. It may be worth something in 100 years. But by then, it won't even be able to be played. Trust me, it is not a sound investment if your plan is to profit, you will be sorely disappointed. I am an internet marketer, and I have researched game collectibles heavily - if you find a buyer, you can profit. The buyer is not going to find you. He searched a week before you listed, and checked again a week after your listing ended You're already beaten, and none of those will sell to anyone except people who want that version and it's already sold out in their area: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_...edition&_sop=16 And as you can see, no one cares about GTA collectors editions: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_f...+edition&_sop=
d3ex2
You're best bet is to just sell it on eBay for a premium as soon as you get it. There will be people looking to get it who couldn't get it in time after it was announced. Leave it a few years and less people will want it and it might actually drop in value since the DLC codes might have expired so that means no blimp, cars, weapons, tattoos, clothes, stunt trials or whatever other sh*t it is. The only things of value are the game which will drop in price, the steel case, map, box, bag and hat.
brian.
He is selling it under the cost, and still can't get a bid: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grand-Theft-Auto-5...=item257f861ea6 (to be fair, he is keeping the game and the steelbook and the dlc, but still, if people cared about rockstar's cheap china swag, they would be bidding, that auction is haldway over and no one has barely even viewed it. I got a bunch of rockstar swag, it's not quality, it's mass produced junk, nothing collector about it, except for your own pleasure) Trust me, gaming collector editions, the vast majority of them, are for the gamer who buys them and their own novelty. It is a "collectors edition" in name and overpriced extras only - it is not a real collectors item. Edited June 28, 2013 by brian.

Oh god, OP is stupid as hell! Who the hell is gonna pay that for a box, bag, hat and map? Doesn't it cost $100 to buy the whole thing? So you're expecting to get all you're money back and maybe even a profit? LOL. I'd say you'll be lucky to get $50. Plus, it won't even be NEW. He'll have to remove packaging and open it all up to get his game/steel book/DLC codes out. Doesn't this CE cost $100 brand new? That's Marvel Comics and Street Fighter, it's a crossover, and historic in that sense. When it comes to "game-only ip collectors edition" it is very, very rare to see something gain, rather than lose, value. Check it out (sorted ending soonest, a couple nuggets in there, but nothing is turning a worthy profit): http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=game+...dition&_sacat=0 Even uncharted 3 collectors edition barely gets to 15 dollars on 20 bids 20 people fighting over uncharted 3 and still only 15 bucks - GTA editions won't pose anything better. Collectors go apesh*t for things still in the Original packaging.
tranceking26
As long as you don't try and sell it to CEX or something like that. £2 offered for a £60 collectors edition from only a few years back. eBay or whatever would be best
JW599
I just thought near to Christmas people would be willing pay out if hopefully these editions become harder to find. Especially when they see a photo of the actual product ready to be sent. If only I had bought a second SNES that I never opened
