MrP4nc4ke
I believe I'm not the only one who has dreamed of exploring the GTA V world for the first time. Climbing on top of those mountains... looking over to the other side... "holy shiiiit... it's another major city! It's f***ing far away, but thanks to this amazing draw distance, I'm able to see the tops of those skyscrapers. Gotta get there! Maybe I'll use this snowmobile to cross that huge glacier spreading in front of me... Insane! Look at that dense forest below! Wait! Are those sasquatch tracks?" Now that's being optimistic. Veeery optimistic. Actually that's being plain stupid. I sometimes let my hopes grow too big, and at times have even believed in a 2nd city. But no more. To save myself a disappointment I am now thinking with my brain instead of my heart. There will be no huge surprises such as described above. Why? Cause if something seems too good to be true, it usually isn't true. I think it will be what R* is saying it will be. Los Santos and surrounding countryside. Plain and simple. It will be great, but it will not be everything you can imagine. There are going to be certain smaller scale surprises to be revealed, but these we will learn before release. Simply because sales need to be maximized. Believe it or not, there are people who will buy GTA V only after being convinced that the content is abundant and rich in variety. No major feature will be left secret until release to make sure that as few people as possible will pick the game up from discount shelf. What's the point of this topic? Beats me. I guess I just needed to clear my thoughts.
Deffpony
I am on the fence. From what we have seen I can say I feel the same. Feels like they have shown us far too much and the only major surprise not plot related will be what is hiding at the military base. But at the same time I have a hard time believing rockstar wouldn't surprise us. Especially after they stated they didn't want to spoil the game pre release. Can anyone think of any surprises IV had?? Might help put things in perspective.

kjacked
It makes me laugh that people are still begging for gameplay yet most think we have seen too much. id have to agree. rockstar has literally never shown gameplay from gta 3 on unless you count the slow mo unique stunt jumps in the gta 3 trailers. it may have shown 2 or 3 of them i think. just watched it yesterday, however i dont really consider that gameplay. i want the first gameplay i see to be on my tv on sept 17th
GlitzyTomb
I'm not even sure if I want to see much more. I mean...I want to. I want to really bad. But I also don't want to spoil everything for myself. I want to see stuff now to assuage my doubts...but how nice would it be to see all tha tkind of stuff for the first time when you're actually playing. If you'd never seen a submersible before, how crazy would it be the first time you hopped in one and realized there was a whole underwater world? GlitzyTomb
Derpa derp (says alternative universe me who stopped paying any attention to the game a few months ago) I sure am glad GTAV is out. Oh look, planes, didn't expect that. Oh look, bicycles came back awesome. Oh look, atvs are back, sweet. Oh...oh wow, you can scuba dive. Holy hell, there's a submarine. WTF? you can buy property? **** me, customizable vehicles are back? Instead I know all that stuff, and while cool it is kinda meh.
MrP4nc4ke
If you'd never seen a submersible before, how crazy would it be the first time you hopped in one and realized there was a whole underwater world? This. You sir, just opened my eyes even wider. Lately I have been spending way too much time on these forums and the crazy thing is, any new info is just eating away my gaming experience! I mean, I have already preordered. There is NOTHING that would make me cancel it. Why not just wait in ignorance and experience everything first hand when the game comes out? New info is fun NOW, but playing the game and finding out about all that cool stuff yourself... it's 100 times more fun. If only it would be easier to just let go and forget about gtaforums and newswire... But you know what, I'm going to try. This topic will be the last topic I follow until I have finished the game. Just like that. I have made my decision and I hope I will not revert first thing tomorrow. In case I won't reply anymore, farewell to you all. Gigabomber
You folks are getting your fingers bit by how many massive disappointments we have had in the last couple of years. Rockstar is our only hope, so you hope for surprises because most games aren't even worth the time.

Rockstar is our only hope, so you hope for surprises because most games aren't even worth the time. Well I hardly remember any surprises from IV. Now that I think of it, GTA IV is the only game in the franchise that didn't wow me from the fresh feel of a GTA. The game opens up in the middle of the night where you can see sh*t about the map, and when daylight comes its a blurry mess. There was not one moment where I was playing the game and genuinely surprised by a feature in a pleasant manner. So unfortunately I can't help but feel rockstar has shown far too much of V. We have seen way too much of the map and way too many screens. I'm praying for surprises but as the op said I'm not holding my breath
tinman187
You never know with Rockstar, I remember the shock I got when I was back in Liberty City during a San Andreas mission. Didn't expect that. Also didn't expect a freaking jetpack when I first found it in that military base. Who knows, maybe there is another hidden city *cough* Las Venturas *cough*
GlitzyTomb
I don't even need any big surprises. Even if I spoil all the new stuff for myself... I still play GTAIV MP regularly as in, My name is GlitzyTomb and I have a problem regularly. Take that in a setting much more familiar to me, with much more varied terrain, add in planes, bicycles, submarines, jetskis, customizable vehicles, buying property, and a "revolutionary" approach to MP. I'm in. Take my money. Take it. Take it you godless heathens, take it. oh, also there is a story with interesting characters, so that is nice as well. voltaire
I say, if they haven't revealed the complete map a week before launch yet then people can settle in for a nice big surprise when they pause the game and check the map for the first time. There was not one moment where I was playing the game and genuinely surprised by a feature in a pleasant manner. OMG this is so true, I remember being unbelievably excited and then having that excitement slowly fizzle out as I tried to pilot a ship on wheels out of a dimly lit dockyard with an annoying East-European yammering away in my ear...and then the sun came out and all I could think was, "is there something wrong with my TV, what's going on? Where did my sharp HD graphics go?". Mmm, good times. Edited June 28, 2013 by voltaire

zainzombie
And thats exactly how I think. Im not expecting any big surprises like another city etc. It will only disappoint me, I want to enjoy everything that IS in the game and love the game for it instead of whining for what isnt in it after it has released. GlitzyTomb
i'd have to argue that no, reading about car customization being in the game months before you get the game is NOT better than finding out it's in the game by happening upon it while playing the game. I just was thinking.. They only said it is in, but you have no idea what we all can customize. Maybe things you thought would never be possible! But yeah.. Thinking about it.. Finding things out when playing the game is indeed better. But just not possible. I mean, you probabky would be piss mad if we never got any info since announcement. The only "suprises" in IV, and how i think it'll be in V (besides MP if we get nothing more on it) is all the "small things" that make you sit in awe with your mouth open... or the even smaller things, that you think about after a big play session and it makes you think "wow! V really is a peice of art!".
.dre.
I was surprised that Naughty Dog kept a lot of things secret in the Last of Us which is roughly 15 hrs, probably less than half of what GTA V is, so I trust Rockstar can keep a few things hidden. Though with Red dead (Marston dead, Jack taking over...), LA Noire, and Max Payne I haven't had that huge surprised feeling lately from them. In fact , I think they lay all their cards on the table too many times. I would like for them to at least keep one huge surprise. For example, it would've been much better discovering a shark while you're in an underwater submarine (seeing something big swim by fast in the murky, dark water not sure what it is) rather than seeing a screenshot of it. MrP4nc4ke
But you know what, I'm going to try. This topic will be the last topic I follow until I have finished the game. Just like that. I have made my decision and I hope I will not revert first thing tomorrow. In case I won't reply anymore, farewell to you all. Well, nobody cares, and nobody should care, but I did it! This is the first time for me on these forums since June. I also successfully kept myself completely in the dark regarding GTA V until I finished the game, which was yesterday. Was it worth it? Easily. Maybe not because there were any surprises left (other than how good the game actually looked), but because I got my mind off the game and was able enjoy other things until release. I went to a midnight release, and the feeling was surreal. Standing in the line I remembered how it felt to see the first trailer back in 2011... weird short term nostalgia. Did I like the game? Yes. At first I was disappointed by the vehicle handling & not so good damage model, but I got over it, and enjoyed playing very much. Great game! It has its shortcomings, and while it wasn't the best GTA experience i've had, it probably still is the best GTA game ever!
