LotusRIP
Job A) I did a job interview with Universal Music that went fairly well I think. Would be such a great place to work, but it's a 3 month contract, starting next Wednesday. Job B) I just got called to do an interview next Wednesday at APRA, Australian music royalties place, and I've always dreamed of working there. The job is also permanent. Hypothetically, if I get a job offer from Job A to start next Wednesday... that means I won't be able to attend the interview for Job B that same day - which, if I even got an offer, would be a permanent position and one that I'd much prefer. What the hell should I say if I get an offer from Job A? I'm not sure if I should try to push the start date back or not... and it would seem a bit fishy if I accept the offer, THEN call back to say I can't start until Thursday. Help!!! What do you do in these situations? Edited June 28, 2013 by LotusRIP
Rjeev142
Be happy that you don't work in a balloon/ziplock bag factory like me that's what you do.
DrDucky
Advice from me wouldn't be good since I'm not even old enough to start a job lol. If I was you, I'd go interview for APRA because your other option is only keeping you around for 3 months. It's better to have a chance at your dream job PERMANENTLY than a good job that'll only keep you around until the contract ends.
nightwalker83
I'd go for job B because then you won't be stuck trying to find another job after 6 months or longer.
sivispacem
I would actually speak to the company who gave you the offer about the other interview. Make the point that the terms are more favourable and ask them what they would be willing to do to go some way to match the terms of the other interviewing company. A real job offer is always better than a prospective one after an interview, but you can use the fact you appear to be in some demand as a negotiating point between you and the employer who gave you the offer. If they meet you half way, you have a better employment offer. If they refuse to negotiate, they probably aren't the kind of place you wany to be working at anyway, and you can use the fact you turned down a role with them to your advantage in your second interview. -E, speeling Edited June 29, 2013 by sivispacem AMD Ryzen 5900X (4.65GHz All-Core PBO2) | Gigabye X570S Pro | 32GB G-Skill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz CL16 EK-Quantum Reflection D5 | XSPC D5 PWM | TechN/Heatkiller Blocks | HardwareLabs GTS & GTX 360 Radiators Corsair AX750 | Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL | EVGA GeForce RTX2080 XC @2055MHz | Sabrant Rocket Plus 1TB Sabrant Rocket 2TB | Samsung 970 Evo 1TB | 2x ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Q Acoustics 2010i | Sabaj A4
Wolf of Badenoch
Go for the second one. Then you won't be stuck looking for another in 3 months time.
LittleBlueTroll
Has to be B. surely? It's permanent and as you said, you've always dreamed of working there.
