initium
For the first time, the map will be open to explore from the very beginning. Some like this, some do not. In previous GTA's, you had a couple of missions in one section of the map. This way you'd get to know the area better, and it would give you that familiar feel when you return later. Now in GTA V, not only is the whole map open from the start, but there's also 3 characters living in different places. So the missions will probably be all over the place! I think this way, you'll never really be able to connect to a certain area. What do you think about this? Is this good or bad for you?
LotusRIP
You don't think Rockstar haven't had 5 years to think about all of this? Have faith. I'm sure they've planned it well so it's not too all over the place (at any given time). I think the fact 2-3 characters work together on many missions will also remove the clutter. So many missions will still only have 1 icon to them, approachable by any character.

Xayias
I am sure most Missions will be done through cell phone or the internet R* has designed. We aren't pioneers anymore.

I think this way, you'll never really be able to connect to a certain area. What do you think about this? Is this good or bad for you? It's kind of bittersweet for me. I liked that the map was locked. There was a sense of progress as I got further into the story and established my home base in the next area. Wondering what was next. What was around the corner. The first thing I typically did was find a way into the forbidden territory. Was I jacking a helicopter to get there? How long could I last with the cops tailing me? I was fun. I do like the fact there will be no restrictions but I kind of miss it. That said I am not too worked up about it. Once I pop that game in I will forget about it all. I am not sure we will be all over the map from the start. I think it will be progressive as it makes sense to the story. I would assume that michael will be around his area at first until we meet trevor. Our exploration in the story will be paced I am sure.

Thunder-Soft
I will be glad that I can just pick up the game at any time and just have open range fun in free roam. I don't know how many times i've gone to play a gta and just want to mess around and find that the game is erased/iv'e gotten a new console/etc. Not wanting to play missions over and over just to mess around i would just turn it off. I'm sure rockstar know what they are doing. I'm going to guess that each character starts off around a certain area and slowly branch out.

Algonquin Assassin
I believe it'll still be a structured sequence where we get a few at a time. It wouldn't be practical to have missions dotted in every part of the map from the start.

I'd say Trevor will have missions in the trailer park, Michael in his part of the city (west), and Franklin in his part (east) and missions that involve two or three main characters spread over the whole map
Leafy Hollow
The way the set up missions/activity's by slowly letting you see every inch of the map during those missions/activity's like they always have done.

ZuParadox
How will missions work? - as i heard that there was only about 7 or 8 heists to do......so how do you lead up to these? - do you go into a major heist mission and then get giving 10 other missions to do before you do it or what..... You posted the same comment in another thread, and again it's false. LS looks to be about the same size as the whole Liberty City map without the water. Just check the "Los Santos size" thread. twistedweather
really looking forward to the random encounters. I do believe some of these should be available @ the start. These encounters being characters specific and dependent upon your location. More will open up as you progress thru the game.
