Borrowing money and going into debt

HOW'S ANNIE?

Since GTA V is centred around the pursuit of the almight dollar, and the concept of gaining money to stay on top, it going me thinking: Do you think we will be able to borrow money?

Now, I'm not asking for this to be a real-world simulator, but it seems like an interesting idea. If you need/want money to go buy something, you go to a loan shark and ask for a designated sum of cash. After a certain ammount of time they will ring you and demand the money. And if you don't then pay them back, the load shark will send hired goons after you until you pay them back (like when you gambled too much in San Andreas), with more and stronger ones coming depending on how much you borrowed. The main reason this idea comes to mind is that it actually allows for the player's actions to have repercussions, and giving the player a reason to think through their actions.

What are your thoughs?

all lower caps...nap on this...

why a loan shark, check loaner places are the new loan sharks.

if gtav don't have debt that just means Rockstar is not seeing a real economy.

i would love to see people bitch about being in too much debt then the other side of the coin...i have too much money and not enough to spend it on.

rockstars past games money wise has been sad. VERY SAD.

dammit money management should be a part of the game otherwise the point of money is mute.

Why would you borrow money when you can just steal it?

Makes it a bit more realistic and let's people role play.

Plus, it makes the game a bit more of a challenge. In previous games you don't need to worry about such things because when you have no money you can get nothing. Having to be careful with the money when you spend it then if you go into debt you have to find more money to pay it off and the longer you leave it the higher it gets (interest).

Some people won't like that but it could really add to the game.

I am sure after the heists you can distribute which three characters get what has far as money collected from the actual heist goes. All three have separate cash amounts and it would be silly to not be able to loan in between the three but as far as actual NPC, I haven't the darnest clue.

You know it surprises me there wasn't a "debt collection" of sorts in GTA IV since Roman's gambling debts were a big part of the story. Might of helped that issue people had having too much money.

I like the idea of loan sharks though. There's a loan shark system in the Saints Row games and you have you pay it back in a certain amount of time.

It would be a way of managing risk vs reward. Get the things you want early, but risk not paying it back in time and getting your head kicked in by debt collectors or be patient and wait until you have a steady flow of income from illicit activities.

It would have made sense for IV to have a gameplay feature of choosing to give Roman money when you see him, though I bet that would make players dread his phone calls even more!

A similar issue in V is Michael's family spending his money. Does that affect Michael's in-game cash balance?

I liked how you got phone calls in San Andreas about your debt first, and then the guys show up to kill you.

San Andreas still suprises me.

I never went into the negatives so I didnt know about that future!

Really awesome and hope it will make a comeback.

Would fit perfectly in V with the economic theme!!

People who roleplay though, ACTUALLY roleplay, Get an imagination you fools.

Remember that wonderful thing that granted you endless hours of entertainment from even the most insignificant of things...

No of course you don't..

Debt would be interesting, It would make you be more careful with your money.

I remember reading in one of the previews (GI, I think) that some heists or missions required a certain amount of startup cash. If this is the case, loans would be a nice addition, particularly on a second or third playthrough when doing a timed run (such as Liberty City Minute). America is built on the principle of instant gratification these days, so why not?

That said, I would be inclined to owe a debt with one protagonist after finishing the storyline, just to have a random fight come to me once in a while.

You could do this in saints row 2 so I don't see how R* couldn't throw it in!

Sounds good, SR had a similar loan shark feature. Very enjoyable.

I would love this feature, if you do not pay the money back on time, loan sharks will come and beat you up.
