Missions in V

OK, so it's pretty much a given that most people thought that the missions in IV were fairly repetitive and boring. Even Three Leaf Clover, which everyone seems to rave about was just 'Drive here and then shoot loads of people'. You barely did anything in the actual heist. People generally seem to miss the III era missions.

So here's where the premise of V becomes an obvious choice: In an HD game, where realism is a big factor, having some of the crazy missions from III era would not fit. But many heists WOULD fit, being both varied, action-packed and (hopefully) fun.

So in this thread, I want people to discuss missions from III era that they particularly enjoyed, and whether or not similar missions would be feasible under a more realistic game style (i.e. V).

Needless to say, if this thread works out, it will contain a lot of spoilers.

I'll kick us off by saying that a mission like 'Phnom Penh' from VC, where you were shooting from the back of a chopper is similar to the info we have about the mission in V at the FIB building where you can control Franklin (I think) from the back of the chopper.

Well, the difference between the III era and the HD era is that you had more freedom on how to do the missions, you didn't have specific limited ways to do it, like.. "Go to location X, and kill Y using Z", you had the freedom to do what you wanted to, and that's what a lot of us miss. I hope that changes with V. icon14.gif

Most mission are pretty much the same to me, in every game, not just GTA's. It's always either go there - shoot them/get something - get back, or race from here to there with a few protect the stupid AI missions thrown in from time to time.

I like missions that feature some kind of different gameplay not shown usually trough the game and give you cinematic feel like the mission in SA after the raid at Jefferson Hotel when you're shooting AK at the police while Big Smoke does the driving. Similar to that one is mission in Vice City where Vance mans the helicopter and we shoot gangsters on the roof of those abandoned mansions.

One thing about the topic, don't think hiding content for spoilers is needed. All GTA's are 5+ years old and this is a GTA fan forum, meaning everyone has already played those games so.. don't see a point in hiding anything like it's a military secret or something.

EDIT: I look forward to missions in V (the ones with two or three protags) only because it will allow us to change the view so we may choose to ride the heli or shoot at will, or even go to another guy and snipe them so it will feel like I have more choice, though they did say some points in missions will be limited to one protag.

"Test Drive" and "The Driver" would work in V, those two were some good missions.

And I myself like missions that are unique, even if it's small stuff. Like in Don Peyote, when Maccer got out to go to the toilet and Paul gets out to be sick, little things like that are what I like.

No, I put up the bolded statement so we wouldn't need to use spoiler tags.

You've got the right idea with those missions, the VC one you mentioned is the same one I mentioned in OP, but the SA one is probably more relevant now that we can pretty much guarantee there'll be a few missions where we can either chose to drive, or be the shooter. Hopefully if we choose to shoot, the driver AI is actually decent given that it can't be scripted.

I wan't more rail shooter missions. I'm baffled as to why GTA IV didn't have a single one. Thankfully TLAD and TBoGT both had one each.

The one from SA was great too. "Reuniting the Families" I believe it was called.

I would love missions which involve to do illegal stuff but without killing, I mean killing in the end gets repetitive, I enjoy missions which are tied to racing, beating some one up, doing drug deals, help people or something else..

Kidnappings too, I want to see kidnappings, having to hold hostages and demand ransoms as we please.

I liked the mission in IV which had you take a police cruiser and stop some guys for some TVs I believe they where? I enjoyed it. Or the one with Dmitri going to that porn place and force the people into giving cuts and whatnot.

I agree. Pretty much anything but "go here and kill this" is interesting. Like beating someone up, taking hostages, burning down a house, anything different. I really hope it eventually expands into a free crime game. As in being able to kidnap people on your own, tie people up, torture them, dress like a cop and fool them, idk. So many ideas but I have no idea how any of them could be coded.

My favorite mission I recall was in GTA: SA when CJ had dumped the guy that was in the port-a-potty into the big hole and filled it up with cement! biggrin.gif

Would like to see something like that in HD

Realism aint no big factor bruva, don't know where you got that from.

I want them missions where you had to follow someone in a car without them seeing you. I Liked them missions.

i want the trucking missions from SA to come back. i also want cropdusting "jobs" and hunting "missions" (not missions but a series of lists of hunting to accomplish like in RDR)

edit: i also miss the strange missions like catching the dude that fell from the building in the back of a truck

2nd edit: i also like the "smash tv" type minigame in liberty city stories...not hopeful for that but it was hella fun

The most epic missions to me involve shooting from moving objects...My fav mission of all time is shifting weight from TLAD.

Striker shotgun + unlimited rounds + no reloading = priceless.
