IveGotNoValues
If i ever had kids, i would definitely let them play. I would be a hypocrite otherwise. All that talk of violent video games making kids violent is so false. Ive played GTA games since i was little and im not violent at all, as a matter of fact, people say im really calm and nice. So of coarse ill let my future kids play GTA games, i dont see why i should deprive them of an amazingly fun experience that i had when i was there age. By then they will have GTA 10, and ill show them classic GTA V, oldies but goodies.
GTA 360
I'm not old enough to have kids, but if I did, I wouldn't let them play GTA V, I'd tell them to give the controller back and get out.
BrunoLK
If I had kids I'd make sure they can distinguish games from reality. Then if I see they're mature enough for that kind of games, sure I'll let them play. One more reason to spend time with them.
Kemo66
I have let my daughter play GTA IV - but, with the sound off and supervised - she's 8 and the swearing is too much for someone of her age (some would argue of any age!) She refers to it as 'The Driving Game' because that is pretty much what she does in it. It's interesting to watch her play, she likes to stick to the traffic laws, stopping at lights, she loves the bikes and scooters. She does prefer to play in a localised MP game (all private slots) so I can turn the cops off so if she hits one it doesnt end up as a chase and shootout!! It's handy with her refering to it as 'The Driving Game' - can you imagine the sh!t i would be in with my wife / grandparents / teachers if they knew she was playing GTA! The way I see it, with the sound off and supervised it's fine. The beauty of GTA is that you can play it how you wish, if you want to run around like a nutter slaughtering people, you can. Thankfully my daughter isn't in that mindset.... that'll probebly kick in when she hits 14..... Joy!
blowtorchrepair
I had a topic on this subject a few months back, and I got called all kinds of awful names. My child will love the planes, trains, wild life and water activities so YES I will let her play, but not the story... in IVs' terms, I'll let her play around in a free mode game or private party where she can explore the map. She's very excited about the pier and amusement park, esp since we took her to one like it for the first time a couple of weeks back. GTA V and beyond can be so much more than just a hookers and blow game. that dialogue ON/OFF toggle I've mentioned before would be a big help too. 110% this. GTA, as a game series, has evolved. My daugher does the exact same on GTA4, and is now looking forward to skydiving and scuba diving looking for sunken treasure in GTA5. I can see my daughter playing GTA5, getting on a cycle and peddling her away into the countryside chasing rabbits and other animals. ah, nothing says "I love you" from father to daughter quite like "you can play my GTA game, dear." my daughter was born the night TBGT released... when she was a baby sometimes she'd sit in my lap while I played online freemode and would often fall asleep to the hum of the mini-guns on the Buzzard... so precious, indeed... she will make a great door gunner some day. (hopefully we'll get a heli with door-gun in V)
TurdsFTW
I guess I'm fine, but.... it is pretty violent and deals with adult stuff, so why would you? Why would it even matter!?!?!? The only reason videogames have ratings is because all of these soccermoms say that it drives them insane, when in reality, the kids themselves know that it will not do anything to them. Fraizer
The games are rated for a reason, says me. Ratings are guides for those who buy the games, so they know what kind of content is in the game, It doesnt mean you have to be that old to play it, just that to purchase it. Being a gamer parent is awesome! You know what is what when it comes to games, so it is easier to explain to little ones the difference between reality and the game world. To let them know its not always ok to do things in the real world that they would do in a video game or what they see on tv or movies. But giving that direction is a necessity in my opinion before introducing the realism that is games nowadays.
TheYeast
As long as you (the parent) do your job and teach your children the difference between right vs wrong and reality vs virtual reality, there should be no issue. Im not saying hand the game to a 6 year old but 10+ should be fine as long as they arent trying to kill stuff in real life already. Gta teaches you plenty of life lessons. Navigation, money handling, hand eye coordination, critical thinking to get around obstacles, innovation, driving, physics. Im sure theres more but these are some good reasons why gta can be a tool to think outside the box.

whatnow
Only while I monitor. In Red Dead, I let them ride the horse around and hunt animals, but thats it, no shooting people, or missions or anything. In V, I'll probably let them fly planes, drive vehicles, and scuba, but again thats it. My oldest is 8, and that is still way too young for GTA, If your parenting skills allow a <13 yr old to be entertained by the dark side of GTA...You're doing it wrong! redx165
As long as you teach your child what's right and wrong then you can let them play. Just don't let them be another 12 year old COD kid. Those are the worst.
AuSsIeThUnDeR36
I think the violence in gta is bad for a kid in one way because they learn new swear words and at a young age, say, less than 10 yrs old, what are they learning from gta? That violence is the solution to everything? Its not really a great learning curve. But what the kids do learn from playing gta is hand/eye coordination. This teaches kids to multi task and that there are sometimes multiple ways to complete missions. It also teaches kids right from wrong. Like if you run over a ped then yes, the police will be very very angry with you. So in summary, while gta is a violent game, it teaches kids right from wrong and they get experience in hand/eye coordination. Of course, little kids shouldn't be exposed to gta games, unless of course you want your six yr old running around the house swearing and quoting lines by Roman like 'Titties' and CJ 'Until I f*cked everything up' It doesn't look good when your neighbour calls up with the concern as to why their kid learnt new swear words after the last play time visit. There is a fine line between what is good parenting skills and bad parenting skills when it comes to violent video games. Parents should always monitor what their kids are playing or at least supervise their child when they are playing something violent like gta. Zer0w5
You can't force your kids to play games like GTA, it just happens naturally to what games your kids will like. Just let it happen, and see what games they like.

Vin89
Not until I think they are ready for it. I would be very strict with games because in my time games had simple grafic styles...today with all the realism in games I wouldn't actually apply my standards from these days... DetectDefective
As a 15 year old, I think I can handle some nudity and GoreBut Topless stripers and little kids... Hey, if it's more than fine for them to shoot up folks on the street with a rotary cannon, they can live with seeing some polygon tits. Now, if my kid wanted to play, and they were smart/mature enough to separate real life and virtual reality, I'd let them. I played Doom when I was 5, along with Quake and a few other adult-intended games. My parents were originally uncomfortable with me playing GTA2, since that was an odd jump (going from shooting up fantasy creatures in the distant future to robbing and killing the average person is a bit nuts), but they were cool with it after some time. My dad even played Vice City with me through many missions on a playthrough long ago, and that right there was one of the best memories in my gaming history. Now, would I let my nieces or nephews play it? If their parents said "no", I'd stick by that and say "no" as well.
Gigabomber
It would be pretty funny if your kid picked up "cheesy vaginas" or "you want me to pull my dick out". Course I picked up worse on the school bus...
B7R
Lol.... For some reason. I was allowed to play MA15 games while i was 5-6 years old. First MA game i played was GTA 3 Now i'm 15 ( For real) and I still play it and don't get into trouble. My parent (Dad) does not mind me playing it. I would let my kids play it just as long as they don't go to school and start doing GTA things to the kids (I.e Making sticks and using them as a gun or hitting someone)
Grand Theft Savage
My cousin is only 6 and he plays Grand Theft Auto a whole f*cking lot. It runs in my family, sort of. We get into gaming at an early age and never stop. I'd let my kids play. I have always been playing GTA when I was a kid, and I'm not a killer. My brother never liked it when we were kids and he's a f*cking psycho locked up in juvenile right now. Violent video games don't effect sh*t. People that do crazy things develop that sate of mind on their own.

Hell, before I even played any GTA (age 10), we were running around the park with plastic guns going on about "gun wars" and all that sh*t. rapturerocks
My daughter is too young to even play games like GTA; it would be too complicated even if there wasn't all that mature content. When I know that she has a firm understanding of fantasy violence vs. real violence and we've talked about the repercussions of violence and sex, then I will let her decide what she wants to play or watch. I suspect that will happen in late adolescence. Now my big thing right now is the concern that she might see me play; I may have to turn the game off for fear of warping her tiny mind.
