SLUGFly
I know some Korean and when I saw Korea Town in GTA 4 it was absolutely ridiculous. What they did was take a bunch of Korean signs, cut the letters apart and randomly remix them. So they may have started with signs like "internet cafe," "department store" and "fresh bakery" but when mixed they made things like "intment eshoreca," "partstnetfe" and "deterkery mentba." BUT!! Then I saw this! The sign on the left says "supermarket" and the one on the right says "wanka internet" - that's the actual Korean characters - they spell the English words (which is par for realism). Sept17th2013
Realism if you understand written Korean. Otherwise is like better graphics for a blind player But nice touch by Rockstar nonetheless.

dyspoid
This is great. It isn't much, and doesn't mean much in isolation, but if Rockstar is implementing high detail for things of little significance, how much detail are they going to give us when it comes to more important aspects of the game? Fantastic. Perhaps they will get accurate accents for Australian people this time around.

Dope_0110
Knowing Serbian, in IV I was disappointed with Niko speaking american lines obviously translated using google translate (I even tested it and got the exact results). It was annoying every time he said something in Serbian as it was always completely wrong and I wondered why didn't Rockstar just hire a serbian actor, they'd probably pay him less and get an accurate character at the same time. So I understand you OP, glad they actually did it properly, those little details count for people who know about them. For authenticity, realistic and quality purposes, they should have hired a Serb and used more broken English RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

But believe me, hearing him and a few times Roman trying to speak it or reading some parts of it in emails from his mother makes your head explode. Couldn't believe Rockstar, who usually perfect even the smallest of details, did that to the main protagonist.

Thankfully most of the directors pick german actors in the meantime
jamieleng
Haha 'Wan Ka' Slightly more original than: Yep, it's the same as US-actors playing germans in movies. Thankfully most of the directors pick german actors in the meantime It's funny that an American actor playing a German seems silly, but an English actor playing a German (usually a Nazi) isn't as ludicrous. I haven't seen it, but I couldn't take Tom Cruise playing Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in Valkyrie seriously (I find it difficult to take Tom Cruise seriously in anything though). It's only when you watch the WWII movie 'Downfall' that you realize how it's supposed to be done. Edited June 26, 2013 by jamieleng

I really could not understand why Rockstar chose an American actor to voice Niko. They could have used that guy from ER, he lives in American, but he's Croatian (close enough) and his name is Goran Višnjić.

I think I haven't seen a movie where a british actor is playing a german till now. Can you tell me one that is worth a look? But you can call yourself lucky that you haven't seen a movie from german TV where german actors play british characters. This is horrible and embarassing I'm a big fan of the uk and I always get angry when I switch through the channels and see such strange german tv productions - at least they do not try to imitate a british accent. This can't be done properly by anyone who is not a native speaker.

Can you tell me one that is worth a look? /off topic http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097576/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118636/ Two right off the bat (funny enough, Michael Byrn is in both - he's a Nazi in Crusade and a Holocaust survivor in Apt Pupil) I've never seen the issue with people portraying characters from other countries with native accents as long as they can convincingly pull them off. English actors do that with American accents all the time, why not the other way around? That said, people like Keaneau Reeves with his hilariously bad English accent in movies like Dracula are always appreciated as well, but for the opposite reason. Anyway, I'm kind of glad there's a little more attention to detail with this kind of stuff - if they're spending time on little details like this, that means they're spending way more time on the larger stuff too. Game2048
What really surprises me is that why, for f*cking sake, they can't write in some non-English languages correctly in American/Western movies/games? Is it really f*cking hard to write several words properly and not just replace them with some random bullsh*t? Why such indifference to the quality of your product? It looks very dumb for those who know those languages. Edited June 26, 2013 by Game2048
Game2048
For example, "The Bourne Identity". Great movie with large budget. His name is just random bullsh*t which makes no sense.
