Will GTA V be banned in Australia?

Why not? I heard that previous GTA were banned and other "violent" games are banned in Australia. So GTA V will be as well.

Won't be banned, Rockstar aren't dimwitted enough to put something like this in GTA 5.

 

The reason SR4 was banned, from Classification Board:

 

"The game includes a weapon referred to by the Applicant as an “Alien Anal Probe”. The Applicant states that this weapon can be “shoved into enemy’s backsides”. The lower half of the weapon resembles a sword hilt and the upper part contains prong-like appendages which circle around what appears to be a large dildo which runs down the centre of the weapon. When using this weapon the player approaches a (clothed) victim from behind and thrusts the weapon between the victim’s legs and then lifts them off the ground before pulling a trigger which launches the victim into the air. After the probe has been implicitly inserted into the victim’s anus the area around their buttocks becomes pixelated highlighting that the aim of the weapon is to penetrate the victim’s anus. The weapon can be used during gameplay on enemy characters or civilians. In the Board’s opinion, a weapon designed to penetrate the anus of enemy characters and civilians constitutes a visual depiction of implied sexual violence that is interactive and not justified by context and as such the game should be Refused Classification."

 

and drugs,

 

"The game contains an optional mission which involves the player obtaining and smoking drugs referred to as “alien narcotics”. Smoking the “alien narcotics” equips the player with “superpowers” which increase their in-game abilities allowing them to progress through the mission more easily."

 

Both unfunny and pointless.

 

So, we can have sex, drugs, and violence in games just so long as it's not written by future serial killers and psychotics.

Would suck for my aussie buddy's that's for sure. Never understood how games there were banned and they are allowed here in New Zealand. We are only hours apart from each other, like New York to California. Only game we had banned was Manhunt.

Why would you "hope" so? Funny. I bet if the shoe was on the other foot most people wouldn't tolerate Australians saying "lol who cares about <insert country here>?" if the prospect of GTA V being banned in their country was a possibility.

 

Anyway I'd say SRIV will still get released just that "alien probe" thing or whatever it is will probably get removed.

 

GTA V wont be anywhere near as violent as most games under the R rating so it should be fine in that regard.

 

If it comes down to it something may get removed initially at release and get patched later on like in GTA IV. No GTA has ever been banned outright here and I doubt GTA V will be the first.

I apologize for all of the insensitive douche bag Americans. We're the 3rd largest country in terms of population so yes, with a population of over 300+ million, there's gonna be a bunch of us around that give our country the arrogant and disrespectful stereotype that we have. It completely sucks that Australia seems to have some crazy strict policies on what media can and can't come into the country but hey, what can you do.

 

Kinda off topic, but what would happen if a citizen tried to import the game from another country? I know the PS3 isn't region locked but I'm sure the banning wouldn't be such an issue if importing wasn't already thought of.
