I understand if people think I'm too pessimistic/negative:

has anyone ever considered Rockstar could delay the game without a new date or even cancel the whole game?

My theory is that if they delay it one more time it will be much too close to the release of PS4/XBox one. Maybe they then just say we cancel the PS3/Xbox360 version and remake it for the new consoles.

Ofcourse I hope I'm totally wrong and this silence is all a part of the marketing. but it has been silent now for a long time

I'll be surprised if we get anything significant before August and honestly I don't want to either. And no it won't be delayed.

But multiplayer wise, the game needs alot of exposure. GTA V will be a huge leap in multiplayer for the series and possibly gaming in general, and they need to market the sh*t out of it in order to change the popular opinion that "GTA is a single player game", especially in an industry that is now dictated by online multiplayer.

Even that douche Pachter stated that GTA V would have no multiplayer about 9 months ago.

this is why I think there could be a delay, and I hope I'm wrong. it's not that I want the game ruined, but weren't IV's mutiplayer components already talked about by this time in their release schedule?

It's quite interesting seeing some people attempt to talk shop like they're seasoned business analysts or corporate heavyweights. But it let's break it down to the scrutiny it so desperately craves for:

Rockstar has a highly anticipated product (in-house often referred to as cn or customer necessity) that is initially designed for a market that has reached its climax in terms of sales and overall active customer base. It never has been bigger.

TTWO has made a public prognoses of sales i.e their expected rate of return. Which would indicate that it's predicated of off current generation consoles sales seeing how high it is as opposed to the prognosis of next generation sales within the first following fiscal year. Which eliminates chances of GTA V cancelation for next generation. GTA IV broke records with sales capping 3.6 million units on its first day and grossing more than $500 million in engendered revenue in the first week. Something GTA V will no doubt top, if not double seeing how the big the market currently is.

Rockstar are marketing the game less - suggesting that they have no fear of market attrition, something that's unavoidable when delaying a game. Which would denote that they're confident of their product and its intended release date. i.e no delay. Not to mention he first delay was basically brand loyalty management seeing how they went from 'abstaining' from including features to including said fan favorites. And no people, this wasn't in from the get go. Furthermore they went for marketing concept this time, which is admirable as it's very precarious.

All this and more (think supply chain planning etc) denote that GTA V will release on the 17th of September 2013, as was set out months ago.

GTA IV had 4 trailers, 3 + 1 because of delay. GTA V has 3 trailers now (+ a lot of screens and other info), what are you worried about?

he's basically saying GTA is set for Sept 19th.

OT: the first release date wasn't even a date. it was "Coming Spring 2013". This time we got a date. and a VERY long delay. no way will it be delayed. also cancelling it for next gen isn't feasible at all, it corporate suicide.

Um.. no, I don't think so. I won't be worried even if they stay quiet until the 1st week of August. All that is left to tell is mp information, launch trailer and a website. Even after July 15 they can reveal both things and get away with it, simply because it is GTA.

We have already lots of news man, why delay? The rest should be a surprise when we buy the game. I don't think they delay again.

It's poor use of logic to think the game is going to be delayed because you feel there is a lack of info. I think most people here don't understand

1. The development process

2. How the logistics of the physical copies work.

It's worth skimming over this Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_development) as it gives a good rough draft guide of the process.

Now once a game is literally complete you have to remember there is more to the process. It needs to be put on a disk. It needs to be packaged properly. It needs to be packed up and it needs to be shipped off.

Then you have transit times. Let's say the game is put together in Asia (labor is cheaper thus reducing costs). Once it's ready to go out it will be put on an ocean vessel and will need to sail from somewhere in Asia (in this example) to the ports on either the East or West Coast. From there the product needs to be picked up from the port. Broken down and shipped off to various areas. The product needs to then travel by truck to Best Buy, Gamestops, etc so you need to consider transit time there. Then it needs to be unloaded and stocked (depending on company)

All of these things are factored in when Rockstar said "Sept 17th".

When they originally announced Q2 or Spring time or whatever that is what's known as a target window. They were aiming for that time for actual completion. For reasons unknown to us the game was delayed and they had additional time to work on it.

When a company sets a hard date they usually stand by it. There are odd ball games that seem to get delayed indefinitely but this isn't one of those companies and one of those franchises.

We live in a society where we want to know it all and we want it now! Instant gratification. Rockstar doesn't really roll that way. They save us things that we can discover for ourselves which enriches the experience, gets us talking and hyped post release and gives them even more word of mouth. There will be no delays. It wouldn't have happened already. From a development and logistics perspective we would have heard something by now.

I just don't understand why they have said next to f*ck all for about a month. This is their biggest game since 2008 and until 2018 (I assume) and there is almost only 2 and a half months until release and they are this quiet?

Something's wrong. Worst marketing ever.

They simply don't need to. It's one of the biggest selling franchises to date. You have to remember that real marketing as in TV advertisement or ad placement costs money. It doesn't cost them anything to be quiet.

What do they need to release to you? You are still here talking about the game, interested in the game and I would bet that you are buying the game, correct? I think that goes for everyone on this forum. It's a franchise that is already firmly established. While it may annoy you because you are getting what you want (A metric ton of information) they can do whatever they want. They are one of the rare developers that can do that.

Also keeping quiet especially during the development cycle is a plus because you can make changes (implement and exclude) things without drawing any public criticism.

They released screenshots 2 weeks ago, and 3 weeks before that they announced the special editions. R* aren't being quiet.

GTA IV had much more info 3 months before release. GTA V will be delayed again. They just don't know how to inform us about this. They know people will be very mad because of another delay.

I think it will be on time because ps4/xbox1 are coming soon and people are gonna be all over those. They risk losing sales by releasing a ps3 game right after ps4 comes out.

Even if it's GTAV.

I'm not going to read through the entire topic. So anybody that has been following this thread, give me a laugh & tell me how long it took for someone to say "If they delay it, then I'm not buying it." or "As soon as next gen starts, last gen is dead to me."

Please, I need a good laugh today. wink.gif

I don't think they will delay it again. I just think they've realized they are going against their usual Modus Operandi & releasing too much info. There'll probably be one last round of previews based on a new demo, which will also encompass MP and that'll be it.

Is September 17th a holiday in the US of A? It's Constitution Day or Citizenship day... Just curious...

Typical R* humor to release GTA on that day. "I'm proud to be an American! Now let's go see why 'Murica is such a great place!!" <Jacks car, shoots police, blows up plane, smokes weed, getz hookah, kills proud American citizens> devil.gif

Hm, I guess nothing, but shortly after.

The first hands-on preview (ComputerBild Spiele) was on Feb., 6th 2008 - 82 days before release.

As someone in this thread stated, the minisite aired one day after - 81 days before release.

Now we are 85 days away from the release of V. Interesting times ahead. Yay. colgate.gif

OT: I don't think there will be another delay, even if they stay silent until end of July. R* (or TTWO?) said they want to make an innovative marketing.

Going silent might be as innovative as they want it to be...

I'm actually quite content with the amount of info they have released, I don't really need anymore updates.

This

I want a couple of sub-trailers - like 30 second weazel new reports etc.

A few more screens but we've had sh*t loads of info

How bloody spoilt are some of you guys if that's not enough.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Can't agree with you hear pony, I normally do but not in this sense.

If Rockstar delay the game agan they will substantially damage their sales, they are already pushing it, with it on the brink of next-gen console launches. If they delay anymore, I think people will come to the point where they think "i can just put the money towards a next-gen game and hope GTA V comes to it"

I think Rockstar know this themselves, honestly don't think another delay will occur. I also think they gave themselves more than enough time the first time around, to avoid disappointing fans and give themselves enough time to iron out any issues that may have arsed from "polish" as one delay is better than multiple delays, regardless if the delays are shorter than the one

Rockstar said a sh*tload of times they are not delaying it again, because they believe Sept. 17 is a good date to release.

I'm not going to hold my breath. Figured GTA V wasn't going to make the April 23rd date, and I'm wondering if it'll even make it to September 17th.

Do I think that getting no info before or on July 15th means that GTA V will be delayed? Not really. Ball's in their park, they can release materials whenever they feel it's necessary.
