I think they probably will try to make it more social media based.

See battlefield 3s Battlelog for an example

And hopefully for the love of god more than 16 players in one lobby. Black Hawk Down on original Xbox had like 64 player multiplayer, don't see why we can't do that now.

I kindly refer you to the dozens of threads discussing technical limitations of online, open-world games.

Said the makers of SAMP, WoW, or any MMORPG for that sake.. catspider.gif

What do all of those games have in common? He was talking about the limitations on consoles, I'm sure the player count will be higher when the PC port eventually comes but on consoles I think we will be lucky to get 24 players which would be a decent improvement but based on how big GTAV's map is supposed to be it still might not be enough to stop free roam from feeling empty, free roam even felt empty RDR and GTAV is supposed to be 3x the size of that game.

This is another reason why a next gen port of the game would be a good idea. I would definitely double dip for a console version with higher player counts and better performance, not that I don't have a PC capable of playing current gen GTA games I just enjoy the simplicity of console gaming more.

Because SAMP and WoW are on consoles right? How derp are you?

I didn't mention other discussions on this for kicks. People have presented perfectly legitimate reasons why you can't use the "but other games do it!" argument in previous threads. Open-world games require a massive amount of resources. Games that allow very large online players populations (MAG is a frequently referenced example) are typically limited features-wise, or of an entirely different genre (e.g., corridor-based shooters like most competitive online FPS).

- Grand Theft Auto Online could possibly include free roam similar to RDR, allowing us to gain xp and do small co op missions together. Missions like.. hmm hiests?

I hope you gain multiplayer XP just for distance walked / driven / flown / swum. But only like 1 XP per 100 meters or something (1/8 mile). It'd be a great incentive for exploring.

Nope but they're just as powerful..

My PS2 ran San Andreas better than my laptop does, and singleplayer and MP run equally the same, so are you saying a 360/PS4 is less powerful than a PS2?

I would never expect anything like SAMP with 100+ players, but I do think they could pull off 24ish players within 5 years of work.

Even a full lobby of 16 players would feel sort of empty in such a large map.

You forgot to mention the preorder exclusive for having a garage in online multiplayer. Garage means safehouse

World of Warcraft but GTA style... it could work. Different mob bosses and mechanics could be the 'dungeons/instances and raids'. Could even be an Auction House for top tier weapons, cars, armour, gadgets etc lol PVP is already there. BRING IT ON!!

Not to be rude but you don't know what you're talking about

In fact, I will bet several months salary that weeks after release, there will be plenty of threads here with people complaining about how limited multiplayer is and the "wasted potential."

I will take that bet, I got $20 extra dollars.

A few weeks ago, someone on the forums suggested that heists could be like the 'Gang Hideouts' in RDR which I thought was a pretty good idea and something that could be done

I assume that's how it'll be also. Each time R* do free roam it improves a lot so I'm very much looking forward to how GTA V does it. I think the main goal is to get the single player game experience online. What I mean is doing missions, free roam and everything the single player has to offer but with other people. I suppose you could see the other people as pedestrians.

With RDR you could do the free roman doing challenges, hunting and gang hideouts online without even bothering with other players and that's why I loved it. The other players in the game provided aid if I wanted it or a nice little shooting match. tounge2.gif

I think people are reading way too much into this. IMO the wording is being misinterpred and i think it really reads like this - Grand Theft Auto (Online Character Creation System). In other words it is the online character creation system for V and not regarding a character creation system for some sort of MMO GTA Online. It will be amazing if it is the latter but realistically i believe its most likely the former.

Rockstar's words are:

"GTA V will do to open world multiplayer what GTA III did to open world gaming."

Something big awaits...

That is blatant exaggeration. GTA3 was revolutionary in every single way, it defined modern gaming. V's multiplayer will be amazing, no doubt, but not to the point that they say.

How do we know?

They may just as well Revolutionize open world multiplayer, Or they may not, only time will tell.

Okay.. please do not mistake my ideas regarding MMO to have anything to do with how many players.. I mean MMO style questing for you and your crew. I don't play MMOs but something is obviously addicting in the aspect of that co op.. and even pvp. I do know this..

I have smashed from hideout to hideout with my people in RDR getting XP in free roam.. every now and then we would run into another crew.. challenges would be made.. epic battles would ensue..

At then end of the night we would all be in free roam storming hideouts in free roam.. waiting for another fool to shoot at us..

I honestly do not want that many people per map. I just want tons of stuff for each server/map to do. And I mean TONS of stuff.

GTA ONLINE.. sounds so damn sexy.

1st of all I didn't say that IT WILL BE LIKE WOW, but if they tried to do something like wow, that maybe it could work and it could be laugh.

No 2 - I noticed a few other comments saying that people need to wake the f*ck up... well I think that a few people need to PISS THE f*ck OFF and find another thread or website.

For the believers of epic online gaming... see you in Los Santos on GTA ONLINE BABY biggrin.gif

That is incorrect.

Players will instantly receive a garage to store custom vehicles. In single player, the garage will be stocked with the 1930’s style Hotknife hotrod and the CarbonRS sports bike. In Grand Theft Auto Online, players will get the high-end Khamelion electric car.

No mention of a garage in multiplayer.

Very cool how they say "online" instead of "multiplayer". I think Grand Theft Auto Online isn't just a multiplayer, I think it will be much more than that ph34r.gif

Pure speculation here, but I think with you being able to switch from your three protagonists to your MP character seamlessly, that all your online garages and cars will exist in the single player world. You can then customise your character and load out before heading into online with other players.

I can't see it being players all having garages dotted about the free mode map.

@Palm3 Thanks, I guess I was wrong then.

No problem,

I also think it's interesting how they say "but we haven't revealed any specifics on that YET"

It sounds like they will shed a light on Grand Theft Auto Online before the game releases rampage_ani.gif

This and also be able to just free roam sp with ya online character and then if someone joins ya its like seemlesly into multiplayer?? seems ambitious but whooo would be groundbreaking and they said it would be groundbreaking.

yeah im going with this idea... whooo im HYPED now lol.gif

I think these online garages will be used for Grand Theft Auto Online RACES.

Think about it, you enter Grand Theft Auto Online, pick "Races" (instead of "Freeroam", "Team Deathmatch", "Co-op Heists" etc..) and then you pick:

* Jet Ski Races

* Dirtbike Races

* Car races

* Etc

And then you can choose a car from YOUR garage, which you tricked out completely in Single player mode

3..

2..

START RACE!!!

If there's an actual GTA Online it will be a stand alone game, a full MMO takes a lot of work and resources and it's hard to believe they would include something that huge with the SP game we've caught glimpses of so far. There might be some elements of MMO gaming, but nothing to the scale deserving the title "GTA Online".

And for you nay-sayers, you're probably basing your opinion on something like WoW...Which is probably one of the worst MMOs ever made, GTA online wouldn't be about questing with your buddies as much as it would be about building up your character, starting a gang/organization, and showing off your custom clothes/cars/houses ect. You could even have players become Cops alongside the NPC police, and when you get a wanted star your "blip" shows up on their radar and they get points/money for hunting you down. The more stars, the badder the criminal, the more reward for capture. It really does have potential if you can see past your bias towards MMOs.

Personally, I think they're done with revealing the SP and are now going to focus on the MP up until the release.

I have a feeling that MP is going to be something huge, more interactive, expansive, dynamic and fluent than any MP they've done before.

And obviously as this thread says, they refer to it as "Grand Theft Auto Online" and not "GTA V Multiplayer" which is suspicious in its own right.

With crews from Max Payne 3 returning, I think there will be a lot of focus on things like that, crews driving around together in their own colors, attacking opposing players who mess with them all the time, etc, I hope you can rob liquor stores and such with your buddies biggrin.gif that'd be swell.

Hopefully no XP is involved and money is used instead. Online should focus on Free Mode, Races and Cops n Crooks. All other modes should be scrapped or intergrated into Free Mode. Mafia work, heists, turf wars, deathmatches and triathlons would all be put into Free Mode. Your character can earn money; you can buy businesses, property, weapons, gang members(AI), cars and garages. You could also level up your skills like Single player.

I reckon the garage could work like RDR's mount selection, where you can just go to a menu and then view all the vehicles you have stored in there, select one and away you go.

I have no idea if this is possible on current-gen, but did anyone see The Division at E3? You had a group of players together (like a crew,maybe?) And zones where you could run into other players (PvP), this way, at any one time, there would only be 16 players on the map at one time, but different players would seamlessly drift in and out of your game. Watch Dogs is also doing something like this (on a smaller scale though, only one player) and that game is coming to PS3.

I hope everyone gets what I'm trying to say, it's hard to explain, but just watch the demo of The Division and you will understand.
