The Antagonist

I hope your choices as a player will sculpt which one that'll be. Would be interesting to see the narrative set up each to be an antagonist.

Not sure that making one of the three main characters the antagonist at the end would make any sense, since there would be little to no surprise for the player when that particular character turns on the other two, since, you know, we'd have done their missions where they decided to turn. Also it would end with that character most likely dying, which would be a massive F U to the player who spent time developing that characters certain skills and buying properties in their name.

 

It makes sense for secondary characters to turn traitor, like Lance Vance or Salvatore Leone, but not the primary character. The most you can hope for the three primary characters is for one to be an anti-hero, a character who defies the regular idea of the protagonist, but is essentially working for the greater good with regards to the story and the player (in this case, I'm gonna categorically say this is Trevor).

 

The primary antagonist will be a secondary character, most likely someone working within the government, either in the F.I.B or the I.A.A, with some secondary antagonists being introduced as people more specifically assigned to our characters. I'm guessing an old associate for Michael, maybe someone who suffered due to his actions, maybe a gang leader for Franklin and the president of the Los Santos chapter of TLAD for Trevor.

I see it as meaning each protagonist can also be seen as a antagonist based on there actions and personality. R* gave no names as far as I'm aware and do believe people take the sentence out of context.

The game seems to have multiple endings and routes you can take so depending on the choice maybe you get to choose the antagonists if any at all between the three we play as. This is just speculation though.

When they talked about the protagonist being an antagonist (or however they worded it), they're clearly referring to the complaints that Niko constantly talks about the downside of a life of crime, how killing people is something he never wants to do again, and how he wishes he could just live a normal life, before the player strolls into traffic and unloads a shotgun into the face of an elderly driver. By making one of the protagonists more of a loose cannon (Trevor), they give us the freedom as players to cause mayhem and carnage, without affecting our perception of the other characters who maybe don't indicate their desire to massacre a crowd. Given the freedom of GTA, we'll still be able to kill everyone as any of the three characters, but it means we're less likely to point out how ridiculous it is that the guilty and remorseful man is happy to bury a hammer in someones skull.

One of the protagonist won't be The antagonist it's just saying that there will be disagreements along the way and switching between characters will show other characters talking about each other behind their backs despite being a team.

It also means at certain points in the story your impressions of certain characters might change, for example Trevor might do something nice that shows he has a heart while on the other hand Michael might do something so bad that Trevor will seem like the "good" guy out of the three.

 

For people saying that Franklin will be the antagonist I really doubt it, it seems like he will always be in the middle and will have to choose who to side with through several points in the game. Why do you think Franklin is always in the middle of every group shot? it's almost like Mike and Trevor are an angel and demon sitting on opposite sides of his shoulder.

I like your theory the scary part is who is the Angel and who is the demon. Micheal would seem to be the Angel and trevor the demon based off his psychotic ways. When actually it may be Trevor is the angel and Micheal the demon. Any way I still think the group will have to take on the Crooked F.I.B agents Micheal is working with

We all know that Rockstar confirmed that one of the protagonist is going to be the antagonist. But which one do you guys think is going to be the antagonist?

 

In my opinion, it's either Michael or Trevor. Because both of them are more experienced criminals than Franklin (not to mention that he's a young man who's just working his way up in the criminal world) , plus Michael has connections with the FIB and Trevor, he's just a straight-up psychopath.

 

As much as like Michael, I can't shake off the feeling of the possibility that it could be him. Cause think about it, to predict Trevor being the antagonist would be the obvious choice. Only for Rockstar to end up deceiving us in the end.

 

What do you guys think?

It's Michael. No doubt.

 

Trevor is the plain crazy guy. He's like the Joker, he doesn't need the "structure" of being a bad guy, he's just crazy and loves chaos. He's not the type to make a deal or betray Michael. The story is gonna lead us to believe that Franklin is the antagonist, but I think that'd he be the obvious choice.

 

Since R* is going with all the movie themes, it fits perfectly. Trevor may be crazy, but he's still down to earth enough to call Michael his best friend. And Michael is gonna begin to be like a father or mentor to Franklin. That'll make Michaels stab in the back even worse to them. I've been sure it was gonna be this way since they first revealed one of the protagonists was the antagonist.
