This thread can only really apply to Xbox 360 users... considering GTA V was always only 1 disc on PS3, as probably GTA VI on PS4 will be...

what is this a ps1 game? Final fantasy game with four discs or something?

Funny thing was, all those discs contained the entire game. It was all that computer-animated cutscene stuff that was carried separately across the discs. That took a lot of memory at the time.

Of course, you couldn't install to HD on the old PlayStation. What I'm thinking here is you might have multiple discs requiring installation, and it then plays from one disc, just like a lot of PC games. No big deal.

You're not going to be changing discs just because you went to the other side of the map.

I thought the Xbox 360 didn't allow mandatory installations, due to the Arcade version of the console.

Microsoft seem to have designed the One based on the undeserved success of the 360, what with all its cost cutting.

You can still install a Hard Drive on the Arcade version, If I remember rightly.

I'm not worried because I own the superior console.

Neither i am, as i own a platform that is superior to both consoles. lol.

But to think of that logically, xboxers should be given an option to install the game on hard disk first and be able to use a single disk to run the game. Swapping disks during the gameplay sounds rather retarded to me.

Oh God, somebody kill me. This kind of nonsense must stretch back to Edison and Tesla arguing over direct and alternating current. You guys know you look like a bunch of twelve year olds? Just in case you thought this was substantive debate.

I don't think anyone's tried to kill an elephant with a PS3.

Yet.

Yeah you're right. Hey, maybe Rockstar will throw in a free hard drive with every 360 copy lol.gif

I wish they'd just tell us how many discs it will be, they must know by now. It could be a reason why some people who own both consoles are putting off pre-ordering it.

The 'no necessary install' thing has lessened. Although I don't think there's been a game yet that requires HD install, there have been games with features locked to an install and games designed around the install (Kingdoms of Amalur).

I voted 1 disc because "abundant content" in two discs means the same content as ps3 on one disk. You make it sound like the xbox version will have more content than ps3 on one disc.

The funny thing is I don't remember when games first started shipping with multiple Discs, the first time I remember hearing of them was back in 2011 with L.A. Noire. And that was by third party websites reporting it, not R*.

Lol !! 2011 ? How old are you ? How long have been a gamer for ?

I clearly remember multiple discs for consoles first appearing on the PS1, and that was back in late 1990s. The first games to have multiple discs was Final Fantasy VII and the first Metal Gear Solid.

Multiple discs is a thing of the late 1990s, not even the biggest PS2 games had multiple discs.

Ok cool.

This generation, multiple discs have been strictly a 360 feature. The 360 had games that were using multiple discs before LA Noire.

I don't really see multiple discs as an issue personally, since i'm pretty sure they won't make disc switching while playing a requirement. They will allow an install.

Having said that, it wouldn't be very practical for those people who have the Xbox arcade version which doesn't have a HDD.

I doubt it will be an issue anyway. It will most likely all be on one disc. GTAIV fit on one disc and with plenty of room to spare as far as i recall. So i don't see why they would need an extra one.

You are appearing to be a bit too over-confident with this statement.

Based on more recent large-sized 360 games using multiple discs, I would not be so sure of Rockstar being able to put the 360 version of GTA V on to just one disc. It is possible Rockstar can still pull it off, but I would not be so sure that they definitely can. In fact, I'd be very surprised if Rockstar fit the 360 version all on to one disc with no issues or problems.

GTA IV is clearly a much smaller game than GTA V, so that example is not really a great one to demonstrate that the 360 can handle V on one disc. Also, remember, the 360 version of GTA IV: Complete Edition could not even fit onto one disc, it needed two, while the PS3 version has just one disc.

Rockstar should just tell everyone, they should know by now.

The complete edition is not really analogous; that game was double the size of GTA in terms of data. It's hard to say whether they can do one disc; L.A. Noire had a whopping three, but they admitted it was due to all the facial data. Remember, also that there is not a clear cut indication that more content means more data. What I mean is not everything on the disc is a 1:1 representation of the world the game renders. Red Dead Redemption is a massive game that only needed one disc. Like you said, it's not totally analogous, but we know they can cram a lot on there.

Someone said the same thing as you said earlier. I'm not gonna discuss the more finer details of why the 360 version of the Complete Edition of IV is on two discs. The bottom line it is and the PS3 version is on one. I dont really wanna hear excuses or explanations.

At worst it'll be like the XB360/PS3 difference in terms of "cut content". Rockstar has had years now to work around the limitations so as to not need to cut content. This crap sounds just like the pre-release GTA:SA hype where everyone was wondering how GTA:SA could fit on one DVD and then there was the dual layer hype that turned out to be bogus. Now yeah, GTAV has much higher resolution textures and that takes up a lot of space as does audio but if the XB360 has any storage issues they'll work around it. For the record, vanilla RDR on the XB360 was one disc, you can't go and use what was done with the GOTY version and apply it to how much space would be required for GTA V. Two discs is the absolute "worst case" scenario.

You do know GTA SA made a lot of things worst. The weather mostly rain sucked in SA but was good in VC. Some say the graphics are better in VC. So if they really want to keep the game looking and running great the they might need 2 discs.

You do know that has nothing to do with the amount of disc space used, whatever set backs there may have been were more likely due to hardware limitations, not storage space. GTA:SA was under 3GB.

Two discs is largely pointless for a game such as this, I doubt there's enough data that could be trimmed from one disc to the next since all the important things that take up space would need to be transferred as well. But that is still the "worst case" scenario.

It has a lot to do with disc space. If GTA IV was 6.4 GB and RDR was 6.7GB we can all asume GTA V will be some where in the 7 - 8 GB for disc space. Which they can only put 6.8GB on a single Xbox 360 Disc. So that being said GTA V most likely will be 2 discs.

I'm not saying it definitely will be one disc, just that's what i'm expecting. V is much bigger in terms of area size, but as i understand it, what really takes up all the space on a disc is the audio and video data. Although i do expect it to be big, i wouldn't imagine it will be as much in terms of that kind of content as GTAIV and both its expansions put together.

PS3 won't be a problem anyway because they're bluray discs which can fit much more data on them.

As i said, i don't really care personally if it comes on two discs, i'm fairly certain it will allow an install whereby you can play the whole game just using the one disc for initiation.

It would suck for the people who don't have HDDs though,

A lot of PS3 fanboys on here. LA Noire proved disc switching is no big deal whatsoever. You just switch the disc when you've reached a certain point in the storyline. Wow. Big deal.

And yes, of course more discs = more game content. Or has common sense gone out of the window and more discs now equals less game content sarcasm.gifsuicidal.gif I don't think anybody is saying that multiple discs would mean the xbox has more content than the PS3.

Forget the amount of discs, you won't even be able to play it lol.gif

Yep, it's a big deal to me and many others for sure.

I only own a PS3 and I've never had to switch discs playing a game this current generation yet, and I definitely don't wanna start now. I'm not used to the stuff guys like you where you have to interrupt gameplay and switch discs to keep on playing.

Sorry, I cannot identify with "LA Noire proved disc switching is no big deal".

PS3 or 360 fanboy or not, it don't matter to me - I'd just hate to switch discs playing an open-world game, especially GTA. End of.

Yeah but if you own a ps3 then it wouldn't be an issue for you in the first place. The ps3 version will almost certainly be only one disc because they can fit loads more data on them than the xbox DVD. So i wouldn't worry about it if you're a ps3 player anyway.

I know that already. I know that PS3-only owners should not really have to face using multiple discs because of the Blu-Ray. It is quite clear that PS3 is probably gonna be on one disc.

1 disc doesnt mean cut content. It just means they had enough room on 1 disc to fit the whole game. Youre acting like you deserve 10 discs of data and gameplay for $60

Oh yeah i see what you mean. Like i said, i'm not too bothered myself, as i know i would only have to load them on once and then never have to worry about it again. But if i didn't have a HDD, then yeah switching during the game would be incredibly irritating. It seems a little bit archaic doesn't it... To be honest, i thought that had died along with the Dreamcast. I've never even seen an Xbox game that made me switch discs.
