These are the components I reached for, please tell me they're all compatible and good. ._. I can't go any higher. Andreas Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) As it has already been mentioned, it would be better to go with an i5 3570K instead of an i7 3770K. The better performance you get from the i7 is not worth the the money, if gaming is your priority. You would pay 45% more money just for a 5-20% better performance in videogames, at best. If you're rendering videos, for example, then the i7 would be more suitable. It's a shame that RAM became so expensive, it costs around twice as much now than a year ago; and three times more than is the summer of 2011, at least here in Austria. Anyway, I would choose another motherboard. The B75 boards are very restricted when it comes to their specifications. You could buy a H77 board, and you would certainly get more for your money. But there would be a problem then. You want to buy a K CPU, meaning a processor that is overclockable, however, H boards do not support OC. You would have to buy a Z board, which allows you to overclock your CPU and it supports the iGP of it as well, but they are a bit more expensive. The MSI Z77MA-G45 would be an example, but it costs of course more than the board you have listed. Also, if you want to overclock, then a new CPU cooler is a must. However, if you are sure that you don't want to overclock the processor at some point in the future, then a H77 board such as the MSI ZH77-G41, which still costs ~30% more than the B75 board but only 18% less than the Z77 board, would be good enough. But then, a processor like an Intel Core i5 3470 would suffice. It costs ~30% less than the 3570K and 70% less than the 3770K. The graphic-card is good, although the Asus GeForce GTX660Ti DirectCU II would be a good choice as well. It's up to you which one you will choose. Out of all harddisks of the list you have shown, you should choose the Seagate Barracuda 2TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA3. So to make it easier to comprehend, here is a summarize of what I would suggest! If you want to overclock your processor, then I would recommend the following parts: Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz for ~225€ MSI Z77MA-G45 for ~103€ Corsair Dual-Channel 8GB (2x4GB), 1600MHz for ~75€ Gigabyte GeForce GTX660Ti 2GB for ~298€ | Asus GeForce GTX660Ti 2GB for ~307€ Seagate Barracuda 2TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA3 for ~93€ ==================== ~800€ -- Remember: you have to buy a new CPU cooler if you start to overclock it. If you don't want to overclock your CPU, then you can simply buy these parts, which does not require a new cooler: Intel Core i5 3470 for 188€ MSI ZH77-G41 for ~87€ Corsair Dual-Channel 8GB (2x4GB), 1600MHz for ~75€ Gigabyte GeForce GTX660Ti 2GB for ~298€ | Asus GeForce GTX660Ti 2GB for ~307€ Seagate Barracuda 2TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA3 for ~93€ ==================== ~750€ Since both potential systems are within your budget and the price differences are only in the range of 50€, I would definitely recommend you to go with the former one, because it's more future proof. You don't have to buy a new CPU cooler immediately, neither do you have to overclock your CPU when you have just bought it. It's good enough as it is now so you can wait. I would like to point out that Intel has recently released their new generation, known as Haswell. Since you're waiting 2-3 months until you buy all those parts, it might be better then to buy a newer CPU (e.g. i5 4670K) and motherboard (Z87, H87). It might be a good idea to ask again when you actually buy the new system parts. The price will most likely drop, and the majority of problems of the new platform are probably solved by then. Thanks If you want to overclock, make sure you'll get a good case for a good airflow. Something like Fractal Design R4 or Fractal Design Core 3000. A good CPU cooler is also very recommended for overclocking because the stock Intel cooler don't do any sh*t. If you'll get a mid-end or high-end GPU like GTX760Ti or GTX780, you'lll get above 60FPS with ease. Though it depends which game you are playing. And what is the best CPU to be with a GTX780? It depends on the program, but usually video render software benefits from Hyper Threading so the Core i7 wouldn't be a bad choice. You certainly don't do anything wrong with either. It's just that the i7 costs more money. The MSI Z77A-GD65 is a slightly expensive motherboard, but it has lots of good reviews and to be fair, the price/specifications-ratio is good compared to other boards in the same price range. Of course, it “only” supports i3, i5 and i7 CPUs but that are basically all processors of the Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge generations! Then there are the Xeon CPUs, which are basically i7's for the server-market but with a better price/performance-ratio; and they can be used on normal mainstream-motherboard. However, the overclock capabilities of modern Xeon CPUs are locked. There isn't exactly a "best CPU" for the GTX780. As long as you have a good quad-core processor, as for example a Core i5 or a Core i7, you are safe. Though, I wouldn't recommend it to buy a GTX780, at least not now. Its performance is similar to the one of the GeForce Titan and it costs substantially less, but the price/performance-ratio is still not acceptable. Just compare the GTX780 with its predecessor, the GTX680, it costs much more money. Just an example: PNY GeForce GTX 780 3GB for ~$650 - as opposed - Gigabyte GeForce GTX680 OC 2GB for ~$520. The GTX680 has definitely the better custom cooler. It's one of the more expensive models, and it costs over $150 less than the GTX780. Oh, and just to let you know, I have chosen the cheapest model of the GTX780 I found on amazon. But on the other hand, you have to consider that the new High-End GPU is around 20-30% faster than its predecessor. You decide whether it's worth to buy the newest graphic-card or not. Personally, I would wait until the price drops a little more. As long as I can get 1080p and 60fps with these specs I am happy. p.s. games such as dayz, gta v, the division, watch dogs. I'm not sure if you will max out all those games with 60FPS, especially with GTAV and Watch Dogs, as it is entirely dependent on how good these titles are optimized. Watch Dogs' lead-platform is PC so it will be most likely very good optimized, but GTAV is a little questionable. If it's developed seperatly for PC and it has the optimization similar to Max Payne 3, then you will max it out without a problem, but 60FPS? That would be certainly cool. Let's hope that this is the case. Those takes a lot of resources and I can't use my laptop when convetring a video. It's now pretty much outdated. The MSI Z77A-GD65 has a lot good reviews indeed. It also has a better onboard audio. I know it is expensive but a good audio is one of the priorities. If I would have to buy a dedicated soundcard, it would be too expensive. Now the GPU is the noly thing that concerns me. Nvidia did a pretty job this imo because they aren't doing any crap instead rebranding GPU's and improve them a bit. Maybe I will get one around .. January? Well, if you can live with that, the PC components will be cheaper later. If you can play games on PS3 and live with that for the upcoming months, sure. Intel will be releasing new Intel Haswell CPU's so the current i-series will be cheaper, they are only just around 10% increased performance so barely a difference. AMD is releasing the new HD8000 series at the end of the year, which means competition, and that in turn means you can expect lower prices for graphic-cards. Either, the prices of the GTX7xx series graphic-cards will be low enough to make them worth their money by then, or you can choose one of the new AMD GPUs. And since the next-generations consoles release at the end of this year, it will be easier to tell how long the hardware will last to run games on high settings or even maxed out with a smooth framerate. I don't want to play games on mid-settings too Especially not for GTAV. What do you think? better first save and get a powerfull PC? 2013 is a pretty good years for new games and they will be released in september, october and so on. If we build a pc now, we might have to play those new games on mid-settings in those months. No one knows the system requirements for Watch Dogs and GTAV, but for me, I'll wait when the right time has come I've got tons of things to do for now and won't have time for a PC build. I'm on the same kind of boat as you Before someone might tell me to get a PS4. No, i do a lot of things on the PC so no need for a next-gen console.
