Are either of the special editions worth getting?

A Kid With Guns

I have no desire for the hat, map, special case and whatever else, but I do want the in-game stuff like the special cars and weapons. I don't know if it is worth it to buy a special edition just for that. Does anyone know if the in-game special items are going to be exclusive to those who buy the special edition, or does everyone eventually get them?

I didn't want any of the physical items in the CE so I just got the SE because I do want the in-game items and well...it's GTA...they worked on this so I don't mind paying a little extra for the SE.

I would say get the SE if you want the in-game items. If you don't then get the standard and wait for the items to come out as DLC, if they do indeed come out as DLC.

It's not up to us to tell you if it's worth it, just look at what it includes and ask yourself not us.

And again, we don't know the answer to that question, it could go either way but I'm leaning onto it being available to most people as DLCS a year or so after release.

If you are very poor, dont buy V at all.

If you are very rich, hell, get it for PS4 AND Xbox, and all the editions for both

Guy above me is right.

Is it already confirmed by Rockstar that the content will come out as DLC?

Everybody is screaming that from the beginning but I havent seen any official info about it?!

If it's anything like every other Preorder DLC, then it will eventually be released.

Just get the normal edition and save some dough. With the money you save, go buy a real hammer and hat.

The game alone seems worth way more than most other AAA titles, but if we leave that aside, is just that extra in-game content worth it. No it's not. Why pay so much for a car or two and a few differently textured shirts.

And there's also a big possibility it will eventually come out as DLC where it would be much cheaper. But again, a few cars and pieces of clothes you'll likely use only once or twice are not worth it right now.

My only reasoning for wanting to get the Special Edition really is that I've waited a long time for GTA V, and I want it to be something special. I've never gotten a Special Edition of any game before, so I figured that the first one might as well be GTA V. I've always felt that the price range of games should be more variable: a linear corridor shooter should not cost the same as a game like GTA, even if it has better graphics. V seems like one of the few games that would be worth this price (and the only one I can think of, considering that I'm pretty much guaranteed to love it, unlike other games which look promising but which I'm also unsure about). So in a way, it's just a means of paying more for a game I feel is worth more. And in return, the game will stand out amongst my collection, with the steelbook cover and extra stuff inside.

I know it's stupid and it would be smarter to just get the standard edition, in my opinion. But like I said, for me it will just be more satisfying to go the extra mile for a product that's been on my mind for years and which will certainly give me a lot of enjoyment and entertainment over the following years. So, illogically enough, I'm basically getting it for the steelbook cover.

Here's the thing, I don't need any more trinkets in my house. When I pre-ordered I was offered a viewfinder and a poster and respectfully declined (well another customer then offered me 5 dollars for my viewfinder so I just gave it to her).

I only have one case to my name, and that's a Halo 2 steel book that was my best friends favorite game before he passed away, but other than that the cases and instructions are given back to my GameStop the next time I visit there (they often get trade ins that have no cases, so it's better than recycling as the case will be reused).

The downloads, well they may be up for sale online, they may not, but odds are that they will (no company is going to pass on a free revenue stream).

So no it's not worth it, at least not to me. But I am glad Rockstar is offering it, as another poster remarked the game as a whole is certainly worth more than $60 (but I am sure they more than make up for a smaller profit per unit sold by selling the crap out of GTA titles, both at launch and in catalog sales).

As a side note, I do wonder if normal games will adopt the graduated pricing structure we see for Xbox arcade and iOS. That will bring up an interesting issue with the $10 licensing fee Microsoft and Sony tack onto each game (a 25 dollar game would be nearly 50 fees where a 60 dollar game would only be 16.7% fees).

The only thing i don't care for in the CE is the hat because I don't wear hats, but it is very cool nonetheless. I really want the steelbook and the stash bag, as well as the art.

No, it is not worth it, a few months later on they will release the CE/SE digital content as a DLC, stupid Rockstar and their scamming.

I'm getting the Special Edition because I really want the Steelbook and Map, plus the ingame stuff looks cool in the CE but it'll be a downloadable thing sooner or later, i'll order it on Thursday

I got CE. I originally had SE reserved but I figured that its only $70 more and its GTA V. I've been waiting 5 years for it so I might as well just go all out and get all the extra collectibles. When you think about it $150 really isn't that much for a game as big as GTA V. People pay $60 for COD or Halo so GTA V is definitely worth at least $150 for how much content is in it.

There goes another example ... -_-

NO.

Listen to me, true fans are the ones who play GTA from III without missing any (apart from portables), not buying a f*cking CE that is not worth a cock.

and dont you mean COD is basically 150$ with the season pass and all the other extra stuff if you want it?

I meant that if a game like Call of Duty can justify being sold for $60 then a game like GTA could be sold for $200 if you used a "content vs. price" system.

My opinion:

not worth it, neither SE nor CE.

GTA V will be packed with so much sh*t to do, so many clothes already, it has the highest amount of weapons and vehicles.

I don't need that extra content, let alone the blue print map, bag, hat.

And ability boosts? No thanks. I don't want the game to be any easier. And I'd like to earn cash ingame to buy my guns. Not get them for free.

Btw I'm not a bit interested in flying that blimp. The hotrod isn't my thing and look at Trevor's shirt with the flames: it's ridiculous.

Anyone who wants to have these things or sees something positive in them shall get them.

But I think the game itself will be enough.

Edit: Oh and I don't need classic characters for an online model, neither. I create my very own one.

totally agree. GTA is gonna be a masterpiece and Im just considering this because RDR and MP3 are the best games Ive ever played. The stories were amazing, the gameplay were what set aside R* from other Devs. Not to mention IV was/is a great game. There are still a lot of people playin multiplayer to this day, 5 years later. I think its safe to say V is gonna be good if not longer then the next 7 years.....until VI comes im guessing

It's a metaphorical statement if you didn't quite catch it, kind sir. And like I said, I am not talking to you specifically, but that kind of attitude is what destroys the God damn game industry, people willing to pay more for a product that should cost less, eventually companies will get used to it and the next thing you will see is getting a f*cking half-game working for $60 and if you want to unlock it it costs $100, what? Really?

Wake up people. Rockstar has enough money.

Let's assume that the development costs ~125 million.

The game costs $60, in average ~25 million will buy the game, that is.. $1.5 billion. Let's remove 125 million dollars the development costs, and that leaves us with 1.375(?) million dollars.

And let's count the CE/SE which will sell, that is around 200-300 million, (my estimation). After paying all the taxes and sh*t like that, the company has around 1 billion profit, more or less.

It's called economic freedom. I can do what ever I want with my money and accept the consequences of my actions. I am aware of the current trends the gaming industry is taking but quite frankly I don't give a sh*t. I think $150 for GTA V is worth it. If you are worried about the game industry being destroyed by people paying over $100 for games then vote with your wallet and don't buy the SE or CE. Or better yet don't buy the game at all. That's just my two cents.

Yeah that sounds sounds about right... in a fantasy world where R* were the sole benefactors of the shelf price and where they didn't have to give a cut to the retailer (20%), their publisher (30%) and their marketing guys (15%), not to mention the console makers (20%).

But in the real world they only directly make 15% out of every game sold which represents 9$.

So actually to cover their development cost alone they'd have to sell ~ 13900000 copies.

Substract that from the expected customer base of 25 mill. and you're left with about 11 mill.

Multiply that by the 9 that they make and Voila 99 mill. Dollars worth of profit. Not too shabby, but unlike your estimate the profit is actually lesser than the development costs.

But, let's be honest here. It's the publisher that allocates a game's budget so you might want to include 2K's part as well if you're looking for actual estimates. Just wanted to teach that self rightous jerk some manners.
