Melee

As much I know, there were very less variations in melee a player does..In SA , we had to go to different gyms to learn new moves.. (Actually only 3 moves per gym, also the button combination was always the same)...

What I am trying to say is, In previous GTA's , there were not any variations with melee the player does.

So, will there be anything new to the melee system in GTA 5 ?

Like Punching in different styles, kicking independently and not in a combination, etc.

Also I would like pinning someone...Or even throw someone somewhere etc.

Also there should be a different melee moves for different weapons, and some special moves only for some weapons.

What do you guys opine about this?

Any improvement is much better.

Well i suppose that's why it's called improvement

Yeah, IVs hand to hand was terrible. Infact the biggest complaint I have with the game.

It needs a major overhaul.

In my experience, melee is the worst part of any GTA. It was only good enough in SA and even that wasn't good by standards I set based on other games.

I don't need different fighting styles like in SA, though I guess each character will have a different one, but only a good system that actually works and can be used when needed.

I hope that we can hit a button to do a special animation, kind of like in RDR, but instead of it doing it automatically, it does it only when you want it to. I loved that throat slice animation from San Andreas.

I also want more melee weapons, and the hammer is already confirmed, so that gives hope that there will be a tool shop like in Vice City.

How about a complete overhaul.

When Niko used a knife, it looked like he painting a picture with it.

Really? I thought it was pretty good. The best in any open world game I ever played (or for any non-fighting game for that matter) it was kind of slow as some people mentioned before in the past, but it was really fun and I spent countless hours beating up people on the streets one after another.

What was the problem with it? I think it's much better than in games where you punch out the guy in less than 3 seconds because of how easy it is. I really wouldn't mind the same system returning to GTAV with obvious tweaks here and there. ph34r.gifph34r.gif

sometimes. you look very strange. somewhat smiling. a little vain. saying not today.

Melee is the funniest way to kill NPCs.. I had so much fun with the bat in GTAIV. One shot KOs to the head or hitting them down stairs..

With the new proposed melee weapons, it should be great!

Wrenches, hammers, bats, axes? Who knows, but I'll enjoy it and expect some good imporovements.

I'm also for a complete overhaul from 4...but to what? Can't exactly have an arkham asylum style of melee, can we?

I seem to recall from the preview that they said they didn't do much to melee. They implied they made minor improvements only, and that the bulk of their efforts was spent overhauling other combat mechanics (e.g. cover and shooting).

I just watched that GTAV O'clock video and that was an error on their part: they were actually referring to the shooting and said that they never actually saw any melee combat.

Too slow and cumbersome, SA was better.

The counter move wasn't very user friendly, and I never got the achievement for so many counters, main reason is because once I've downed two people the police are on me.

I think he might be referring to the November 2012 GI preview, where there was a section where they mentioned that melee wasn't really a focus of their development and wasn't getting overhauled in quite the same way as in the shooting mechanics. I still expect that it will be quite different, though.

I don't think it'll be a huge Improvement from IV's. GTA IV's melee was pretty good IMO. It's probably going to be more smoother,it'll be easier to fight more than 1 person and there will be more Foghting moves to do and More counters.

In the first preview they said they improved melee. But not as much as gun play. Never will ever tho.

What about throwing things / people / weapons ?

Like we could hold a person, then throw him in a required direction with a button - the more you press it, the more strength the player will throw him/it..Of course not more than his capacity..

It would be fun throwing people on railway tracks just when we see a train approaching.. biggrin.gif

I've actually died in IV because of how clumsy I felt the hand-to-hand controls were (I gave up trying to fight 2 people at once). Niko trying to knife somebody looks like he's trying to sell it in an infomercial.

I too would love to see the melee combat system in the game revamped, seeing as combat is pretty much the staple for the GTA series and giving us ten dozen ways to kill with just our hands would certainly improve the experience. However if we were only to get a few improvements it'd be the much needed disarm feature that the series is dearly lacking, if I'm in a situation where I have no gun I want to be able to sprint past a cop and pull his gun right out of his holster. This would make obtaining weaponry much more interesting and fast paced then it usually is in the game.

I don't expect exaggerated combat abilities like Sleeping Dogs or the Arkham games but damn if it doesn't need work. It's amazing that how long it's been and we still can't do something as basic as a ****ing grapple. Basic stand up and some grappling strikes and it'd be nice to finally be able to interact with the environment.

I think IV's hand to hand worked well. Somethibg to overdone would look rediculous, and at times it looked gritty and brutal! I do think that grapples and maybe enviromental attacks should be added (wall slams, stair throws etc) with the addition of this I think the melee system would be great!

after playing sleeping dogs, where the melee combat was a blast, I would hope to see an improvement in V. Mabye not to the same extent as in SD but basic elements

especially the environmental moves, like Trevor in the bar, also grappling

Melee improvement would be nice.

I'd love a grab and stab feature as am option, similar to Battlefield 3 and hopefully in certain situations we can counter it like in Battlefield 4. Yes, this isn't Battlefield, but I think the animations would do great and would be very satisfactory in gaining revenge toward our enemies. biggrin.gif
