Like in GTA IV, I'll turn the mini-map off and leave the blips on. That way you can still complete missions, know where the police are, etc.

The Armageddon(Temp)

I would find it quite adventurous. Especially when I am in the countryside and finding my way home. I just dont want any tall buildings from LS to be seen wherever I am. The moment I see it, it will spoil the fun of adventure as you have got a direction to go...

In my eyes, it's tedious, I don't even know my way round my neighborhood well, so one that is a lot bigger and I have only known for a week would be hard, plus if I didn't want to look at the map I could, erm, not look at the map. But I don't mind the hide HUD option on any game, it's an option and you don't have to use it but it's there if you want it and if you change your mind for whatever reason.

It's 2013! We should have all the information that is on the HUD integrated into the gameworld.

If you want to access the minimap while driving, you should have to go into cockpit view where you can look at a sat-nav on the dash. On foot, the camera should pan over the shoulder of the protag so you can look at a maps app in his hand.

That over the shoulder view should be used to access all the other apps too. Contacts should appear on the phone like a skype call.

Health should be indicated by bloodstains and different animations depending on how close to death you were. Clutching bullet wounds and limping is infinitely better than a health bar with no restrictions of movement.

You shouldn't be able to pull rocket launchers out of your pocket either. All weapons should be visible on the character and you should only be able to select those until you pick up and swap to another. If you want to carry an arsenal you should need to put it in the boot of your car.

In this day and age we shouldn't have on-screen clutter.

Maybe if there was a hardcore mode, but not if there isn't.

OT: I might try turning my minimap off a few times. Could be a lot of fun. Best part is if I don't like it I can turn the minimap on again.

Although, you can think of the minimap as the character's mental map of the city.

Real Life doesn't have a minimap.

Yes it does. It's called Sat Nav on your smartphone.

I'm definitely going to finish V without a mini map, maybe without a HUD too. I had fun doing it in SA & IV after I finished the story.

It has always been a CRAZY fantasy of mine to freely roam the Mojave Desert, maybe while riding a Harley through the empty road, listening to 70's and 80's rock. So far only San Andreas has been able to slightly satisfy that fantasy (and hey, 3 days from the time of writing this game called Ride to Hell is supposed to come out. It's an open world biker game set in the 60's). A big part of what makes this fantasy so great is the exploration of the unknown, so having no mini-map at times like these would be great.

Edit: Apparently the game I mentioned, Ride to Hell: Retribution has undergone a lot of changes since Pre-Alpha stage (before its cancellation in 2009 and re-announcement in 2013). It's apparently no longer open-world and it sucks, or so I have seen in online walkthroughs.

I think it would be pretty interesting getting around without the minimap. I wasn't even aware you could disable it in GTIV, lol.
