Tennis, underwater, YOGA?!

Video game development takes a long time - especially something like Grand Theft Auto. I personally think MANY man-hours have been wasted on silly stuff like yoga and tennis, which the majority of people are probably going to try once and never again (just like bowling in GTA IV). Wouldn't time be better spent making better things? Since when did GTA become a sports simulator?

I'm not so sure about underwater exploration though, as that may be sort of interesting, but still it seems like they've put a LOT of detail under the sea, and to be honest there's only so much time one can spend down there before it gets very boring. Even if there is treasure hunting and sharks.

I know I'm going to get hate for this, but I'm simply stating my opinion! Let me know what you think.

EDIT: I just realised there was basket ball, pool and possibly other sports in GTA: San Andreas. My point still stands though.

No.... because these types of activates have always been in GTA games.

Always have been always will be. -_-

I probably wont play the minigames much, only for achievements. underwater I probably wont do much of either after ive gathered what I need for hidden packages/treasure/money. but I don't consider that wasted development. someone else may find it enjoyable, and the more in the game the better.

I don't think any of you understood my point. Instead of wasting time developing these silly things, they could have been working on other stuff, making the game even better. Nobody's going to complain and say 'wtf rockstar y u no include yoga' are they? Think of the awesome things which could replace them.

I think R* forgets who the gta audience is sometimes. They try to make EVERYONE happy but they fail to realise that not EVERYONE plays gta. Sure these things give us a little something extra to do but like you said most of them are "one and done".

Maybe if they were a little more involved than just flicking the analog to bowl or aiming and pushing one button to throw a dart then these things would be more fun and have a better replay value. If the yoga, tennis, etc is as detailed as the poker and other gambling in RDR was then they might actually hold up.

Personally I am looking forward to seeing what all these new activities are all about but I'm not expecting GTA V to be my new favorite tennis game.

Edit: in addition I highly doubt they felt the need to hold back or leave anything out of a more important part of the game to leave room for any of these side activities. Example: i dont think they had to cut the shooting mechanics budget because someone higher up wanted yoga in.

NO!! I'm looking forward to tennis, golf, diving, triathling tounge.gif , etc (tho I admit, not so much the yoga part). Activities like this are always fun. I played pool a lot in previous GTAs smile.gif

Well your point is that these features should be removed............ I don't that's possible due to only less than 3 months before release.

I don't have a problem with it, but I miss the side activities/missions that actually granted in-game bonuses, like Vigilante (higher body armor capacity). GTA IV had "Most Wanted" but the only thing you got when you completed it was a dinky achievement. confused.gif

The underwater stuff sounds fun, at least, since you can make a bit of cash off of it. I can also see myself playing tennis whenever there's a downtime period in action (or waiting for another mission/storyline to pop up from a phone call).

The yoga, meh, doesn't sound that entertaining, but we'll see what happens. tounge.gif I'd laugh if you could pull funny sh*t, like ripping a fart while stretching. That'd make playing the yoga stuff worthwhile.

Yes you have a good point. It's not 100% that the entire thing is a waste of time, it's that they aren't (IMO) good enough to warrant existing. As you said, they're often just aim and press - BORING. I used to play poker for hours in Far Cry 3 and never really got bored, because you had to strategize and think a lot.

If basketball, arm wrestling, cage fighting and gang wars is back, they can definitely put yoga and tennis in their. It'd be fine by me.

Okay am i the only one who actually enjoyed hanging out with roman?

OT: No. Underwater exploration seems pretty cool, tennis will be fun and even yoga will be pretty interesting play.

No, my point is that the time COULD have been better spent on other things. Note the past tense.

Yoga will likely consist of moving the analog sticks in certain directions, similar to the lowrider missions of GTA, for example pushing one left and one right, so simulate 'stretching'. Still sounds boring as f*ck.

So what SHOULD HAVE they made instead of those. A bigger map? More cars?

I'd rather take some more activities that mean more gameplay. Just roaming the map get boring and you need something else to do and that's why you have those activities and I'm really looking forward to them. Bowling in IV was boring due to it's mechanics and slow gameplay, but tennis should be a lot of fun if they do it properly, and considering they made that table tennis game I don't worry.

That's not comparable really. The time and resources to create this would be about the same as a city block. There a lot of coding for tennis, for example the physics of the ball, the scoring system etc. it's not really comparable to some 3D modelling of some city blocks.

As for what could replace them - ideas welcome. Perhaps a shooting range like back in San Andreas - that was more fun than yoga - and challenging. There's clearly not going to be a win condition for yoga - what are you going to do, strain a muscle? confused.gif

No, GTA has always had mini games, it would be ruined if they only focused on the story. Its a game about free roaming and doing other random thing alongside the story or even without doing the story if you dont want.

Exactly. Whats the motivation for it? Wheres the reward system? So i spend 10 minutes making michael to a hand stand for what? +1 stamina point? Meh.....

I think diving is going to be really fun.

Never played a diving game, but I can only imagine if there is one you don't surface and walk home afterwards.

Diving will be epic IMO, we will be able to plot locations to dive, (set waypoint on map lol.gif ) and just chill.

You lot are totally missing the point. When did I say REMOVE ALL THE MINIGAMES? I said MAKE BETTER ONES.

So... you don't really have an idea what they should have made instead of mini games.. and your only suggestion is a mini game?

Dude, we get these, we love these. Who says there isn't a shooting range? Maybe there is, but these new mini games are there so we get something.. well NEW. Shooting range is actually something I did once and never again once I completed it. Yoga may increase stamina like gyms in SA. Tennis is just a fun game that I could play over and over if the opponents aren't too easy to beat.

And yes, I very well know how much time things take, I was just asking what would you want. A bit more map is not better than more gameplay in my opinion and that was the point there.

In my opinion, yes. I don't like tennis, yoga, nor do I like being underwater. That's just me, though.

We don't even know if Yoga is going to be good or bad yet. You may not like it but I'm sure others will.

I never said the minigames should be replaced with other non-minigame stuff - my point was BETTER minigames, as I've said three times now. Apparently we won't see any of the side-jobs returning such as vigilante, firefighter, paramedic, taxi driver, train driver etc. they'd be better than yoga.

I'd still like to hear your ideas, what mini games would be better than tennis? Yoga may seem weird but as I said my guess is it will have a purpose of increasing stamina so why not, the same as running a treadmill in SA.

And underwater is not a mini game, it's just an extension of map. We had that in SA but had nothing on the sea floor and now we do.
