Consequences of Dying and Mission Failure

I just meant the loading game aspect after dying like MP rather than appearing back in front of hospital. biggrin.gif

think twice.

MP3 is only mission based. You die: You restart the mission (sometimes at a magic savepoint)

When you die in V during a Mission sometimes you can restart directly (Phone option in TBOGT) or at a checkpoint.

When freeroaming in V there is no checkpoint, so you "wake up" at the nearest hospital. You think it would add more fun if you restart at your last savepoint (which is the house)? How adds this anything to the gameplay.

In Max Payne there is no freeroaming.

Sorry, I really try but I don't get it.

I-WANT-NANOBOTS

Ganging up on OP, I see. Peer pressure, I feel it. OP YOU SUCK & ARE DUMB! lol nahh but dying and having to start over would take me out of the immersion. I feel as if you're a first time GTA owner/player, is this so? This game is not like Bioshock, it's a free roam, it makes more sense to just respawn at a hospital, it's not like they just let you die without consequences, If you were a GTA player you would know death = huge chunk of your money being taken.

Sorry, but how is loading from a previously loaded save anymore realistic than spawning infront of a hospital? It may not be the most realistic method, but it's always worked well.

For me, when I reload from a past save, I treat the time I died or got busted as if it never happened, i.e., non-canon. I never save after a hospital visit ever, as it seems odd that I would be released to the hospital with my weapons after "passing out" from a police shootout. This is, of course, a personal preference.

That's a very good idea but I think it would be better to make it a Hardcore Mode (Optional at very beginning of the game)

Yeah, I play games to escape reality, not face all the same consequences.

This is what happens when realism goes unchecked people. Sooner or later you get dumb suggestions like this. Stuntmen would have to keep loading old saves, and missions would involve even more reloading. So most of the time would be spent at a loading screen. I don't know about you, but I don't like sitting at a loading screen.

This isn't a roguelike. We're not playing on ultra hardcore mode. This is GTA. The whole reason most of us bought it is for the minimal consequences for making stupid decisions. Nobody would buy burnout if it had you fill out car insurance forms every time you crashed. This suggestion sucks.

I don't think a game like GTA could support this. But I LOVED hardcore mode in Fallout. I think true death is a fantastic idea but for game progression you need an inheritance system. For story progression you'd need... sh*t, I don't know, maybe some kind of wizard who knows how to code? Great ideas though.

If you die, the screen should go black and corrupt your saved game, then put a restriction not letting the console load the game again. Another step towards realism.

I hate it when games say Game Over. It's like a big F*** You in your face. Like in Castlevania SOTN When you get a Game Over it actually LAUGHS at you.

This is why I hate it...its like Oh thats nice your reminding me how I FAILED and reminded me that I died. Yes I died I don't need a Huge "GAME OVER" sign to remind me

of it. Especially laughter at the same time. So it feels like the Game is Trolling you after it. angry.gif

First thing you mentioned won't happen. Guess you already knew that.

When it comes to waking up at the hospital I don't really see too many reasons why they should change this system. It's not realistic but in my opinion that's the point where realism has to clear the way for fun and fluent gameplay.

The only thing I always disliked was the fact that being busted by the police is impossible if you don't want it to happen. The only times this happened to me were by accident...if you were out of luck outrunning the cops you could still try it until you die. Better than being busted.

Maybe they should adjust both so the consequences are equally punishing. They could steal some of your guns at the hospital...

It's not realistic but how realistic is it to die and wake up at the hospital or killing a thousand cops and being released for some cash.

Leafy Hollow

It will be slightly more "interactive", how much is anyone's guess.

Maybe re-load the savegame, and that'd still suck major balls, but game over?? no way.

sounds a bit harsh and like an xtra hassle to me OP

a huge hospital bill detailing your injuries, killing off characters for good

its a interesting take, and I guess it would definitely require some more strategy.

If you want that kind of realism try roleplaying

sure they will add upon other cool stuff and not expand upon these points of the game

I think its fine the way it is.

Yeah, and when Michael, Trevor and Franklin are dead, the whole game is over and I've wasted 60 bucks? :\

Yeah actually.

So that surviving in the game would actually deem important rather than just assuming we will land up in from of the hospital and continue the game....

I really hope you are just joking -.-

I would love to see a GTA wherein you could make more decisions that really mattered.

I only really play Open World game and occasional fighting games (Mortal Kombat or Wrestling games).

One thing I really liked about Bethesda's Fallout and Elder Scrolls series was the ability of the player to kill

quest givers. The Fallout series was better in this regard before Bethesda purchased it, and the Elder Scrolls

series was better in this regard back prior to Oblivion...

But the ability to kill Quest Givers and Friendly NPCs would be amazing to see in a GTA game.

The little choices we had in IV were fun, but wouldn't it be nice to make more and bigger choices?

Perhaps a potential Balla NPC offers to make Franklin a Shot Caller in the gang, help Trevor out with The Lost, and play

a small part in the next heist....but only if Franklin kills Lamar and thus leaves The Families.

Kill Lamar and you lose Chop and Families territories become very dangerous, but now Balla territory is home and you unlock

an entire Story Arch that you wouldn't otherwise have seen. Or stick with The Families, keep doing their missions, Lamar

remains your friend, but the Ballas eventually start open gang warfare with The Families.

Yeah, big-time pile-on, a lot of energy in this thread expended ripping the OP. I didn't read every post here, but I am surprised I did not see the hardcore braggarts come in saying, "If my player dies, I always start the game from scratch, hurr, hurr. Anybody who doesn't play like me is a wuss, yeh, I'm tough."

Trevor or Franklin or Michael doesn't like you as much and if you have low enough friendship with them you can't do missions with them

I like the idea of beeing more careful and that failing a mission have greater concequences. But what if you wanna dick around ?

Like doing stunts, and then if you die you won't respawn ?

I think the hospital solution is as realistic as it gets without screwing with the gameplay.

Yeah, Rockstar wrote this elaborate story with these complex characters ohwait Michael crashed into a tree on his way to a golf course and flew 20 feet right into another car's windshield. GAME OVER. What happens when all 3 character die? What happens when you kill every NPC essential to the story? Do they all just get replaced by a randomly generated ped that has the same voice and personality? I will take this opportunity to ask the OP: How old are you?

the only consequence of dying should be having to switch to one of the other 2 characters and having to pick them up.

There's another game that aims for total realism out there. It's called flight simulator X and it's a lot of fun. Why is it fun?

Well, your flight doesn't immediately end when you violate FAA regulations. You don't have to sit through pilot's school, and free flight basically hands you any aircraft you want with no consequences for crashing it. No paperwork, no bullsh*t. Just "Here's a plane, have fun you crazy bastard!".

According to people like the OP, because flight simulator is aiming for realism, it should have all the paperwork and bullsh*t of real life and the game should either stop working or delete your profile or make you load an old profile every time you crash a plane.

Do you see where I'm coming from on this? These suggestions are so realistic and boring and annoying that even simulators themselves avoid them. I don't see why GTA needs to become this slog people seem to want.

I kind of agree with you. In TbogT, if you are in a car and you get blown up, you end up infront of the hopspital. Alot of plastic surgery would of had been done, seeing as Luis Lopez looks so good after being bombed in a car, lol. But, "game over", terrible idea..

It's a game. I completed Max Payne 3 new york minute hardcore(Complete the game without dying) not too long ago, and it was a pain in the ass. What if you die from a small bug? You would have to start the game over again..and there is no way that there won't be any bugs either. Just think about that.
