Intergration on a smartphone/tablet for GTA

For those of you that don't know, Playstation recently announced a new version of their playstation app which will intergrate more deeply with the console (PS4). This is obviosuly to complete with Xbox's smartglass and possibly the gateway for second screen gaming for Battlefield 4 and Tom Clancy': The Division.

How would you like a second screen to intergrate into a Grand Theft Auto game? I doubt we'll see it much (if at all) this time around but for the next gen consoles it could deliver a great experience.

Here are some of my thoughts.

Checking the map

Looking through stats

Looking at previous conversations/mission objectives

^Ya know the kind of stuff you do in the start menu. Heres the cool ones.

Calling other AI's - Perhaps calling roman to go bowling?

Mini games - Like flying mini planes or helicopters in Vice city.

Watch the in-game TV.

I'd like to hear your ideas smile.gif

I don't get it. Doesn't the Wii U do this sort of stuff, but does it better? Like on Zombie U

Nope, GTA doesn't need that, especially not GTA V which I'm sure wasn't developed for that in the first place and including that now just for the sake of having it in the game would be nothing more than Rockstar jumping on the bandwagon.

Thankfully, they never were that kind of company.

Well I did mention that I doubt we'll get it this time around and including it this time would only cause more problems for Rockstar. However I disagree with you simply saying that GTA doesn't need it. The technology and ideas for it are still expanding but another GTA game may come in 4 years so by then it will be more advanced and used in better, more intergrated ways. It could be used to improve some of the features that are used on the built in smartphone.

Well, to me that's just a fad that will be exploited for a while then probably left alone. There were huge expectations from Kinect by Microsoft and most people hated when they had to use it, PS3 Sixaxis went a little bit better it seems, but still wasn't really what people gave a damn about.

So this new thing with second display and app integration will only be popular for a while I'm sure. What I mean is, why would I use a secondary display to browse the menu or whatever, when I can't play the game at the same time, so it doesn't improve anything really. What I mean it, it's physically impossible, you can't be focused on two displays at the same time as a human being so you'll either stop playing or pause the game anyway.

Maybe for in-game TV, but a good camera that enables watching in-game TV on your whole screen and it's fixed.

A good argument. I think Rockstart will always put map size, level of detail and storyline over anything like second screen app intergration but i'm sure they'll look into uses for it. As for only using one screen at a time, what you say is true but you may switch to another screen if what your trying to do becomes easier. For example settnig a marker on the map, you could pinch in and make a marker so you wouldn't need to do it on the TV - not that it is difficult or long on the TV but as maps get bigger it could become useful.

Well, they already did try multiple screens with CTW on the DS so it wouldn't be a completely new idea though

I suggested this a while ago. You could use the Iphone (actual physical phone) or Ipad or galaxy etc etc to be a satnav/map for the game and/or a music changer (kinda like the interface of your actual vehicles' radio/cd) and/or an actual camera etc.

How cool would it be that when you get your phone out in game an exact replica could be displayed on your actual phone and you could use it and it could control the in-game phone. Pointless but fun.

They could integrate LOADS of features to be linked to an actual phone. I would even go and unlock my recently acquired iphone... 'fell off a lorry into a friend of a friends' hands'.

Not sure if they will do this, in-fact I very much doubt it.

Completely seperate from ACTUAL phones -

I just hope that we get an in-game tech app that lets us control a vehicle James Bond style. Imagine that your cornered and the police are closing in when all of a sudden a Comet, from behind the police barricade, comes screaming through and skids to a halt, engine running and, if we can get it, the bullet proof'ness is doing its job, you dive in the car and you could even drive off keeping you head down low to safety wink.gif Gotta love Q branch icon14.gif
