ZuParadox
I don't have much time for gaming since the kids came along and the missus moved in but am hyped for GTAV - i'm just wondering if i need to play TLAD to actually understand 5, as i notice people saying Trevor has a run-in with the gang etc... How long is the storyline in that DLC, roughly?
poklane
You don't have to. You can step into V without playing any other GTA.
bfett21
Not 100% necessary as TLaD was the LC chapter and V is the west coast faction. You should play it however for the storyline and bikes.
Graven
Storyline is some 10+ hours maybe. It´s not critical to play TLaD before V. It´s not critical to play IV at all to play V. But I still recommend if You like GTA.
wobbazu
No you don't have to play TLAD to understand GTA V's story. However there are some screenshots that have the logo of the lost MC. That could be just a reference or maybe you get some missions from them.

So you dont have to play TLAD to understand V But TLAD is a good game so you can play if you want to
ProTrainFollower
No it's a completely different chapter, I'd be surprised if they even mentioned the LC Chapter of the gang at all, besides maybe a backhand comment.

How long is the storyline in that DLC, roughly? I recommend TLAD regardless of V... it was a good game and had the best NPC of all in IV, Billy, IMO. The story isn't nearly as long as vanilla IV, maybe 1/3 the length, more or less.

BUT i would also recommend you play it, just because it's an awesome game, hugely fun. I never really liked riding around on bikes much myself, but there was definitely something about TLAD that caught my interest.

Braindawg
I'd 100% recommend TLAD. I wish it was longer and had more things to it. It felt like a big rushed when it comes to outside-of-mission gameplay.

rjmthe2nd
Alll Grn Theft Auto games aare in a way sequel but then again,They tend to not be sequel...get what im saying? they're newer but really have nothing to do with the previous, sometimes they'll mention a character or 2 from the previous in the new one,and they might even appear but they're story wont be brought over. CalgaryJay
This is the only one I have still yet to play, I own it too (bought GTA IV + DLC's). Only prob is I played TBOGT first, and by the sounds of it that's the much better one. So knowing I'm going to be playing a worse game than the one I just played is putting me off a bit. universetwisters
That's the beautiful thing about the GTA series. You can play literally any game (aside from IV's episodes) without having to play prior games to understand the one you're playing. f*cking awesome. True, but if you want to get what's going down with the diamonds and what's going on and stuff, then you gotta play IV.

HoleInTheSky
Nope. Trevor has history with The Lost, but only the chapter in GTA V is significant, and we'll learn why once we play the game. But you should play TLAD.

I'm very much a gameplay >>> storyline person, truth be told I'm not a big fan of the cinematic turn games have taken the last few years, feel it takes away from the gameplay sometimes (eg AC3). But ya I'm sure I'll still play it, at least for the improved (from IV) motorbike handling I keep hearing about. Thanks for the reply dude

Thanks for the reply dude I prefer TLAD more, TBOGT was just a gameplay piss around with a nonsense story. TLAD had a lot more detail put into it regards to characters and side missions, for example, unlike Armando & Henrique in TBOGT, Terry and Clay (and Jim) in TLAD have more than Five sentences, so doing side stuff doesn't become as repetative and The Lost comment more during Gang Wars, adding that extra flavor to the fight whilst you take down rival gangs. You're gonna learn to love the sawn off and riding technique, the second mission that uses that is just a blast to play.
