There seems to be some debate of whether Advance and Chinatown Wars are canon the their respective GTA universes, since Advance contratics III a lot, and Chinatown Wars has no connection to IV or the Episodes, despite being in the same city only a few months following. So do you think they are canon? If so which of them is?

I belive that Dan Houser wrote CW but didn't write Advance. If I were to presume one is canon, I'd go with CW.

Never played Advance, but I'd consider CTW a spiritual successor to GTA IV/EFLC in much the same way RDR(edempition) is to RDR(evolver).

Chinatown Wars is cannon, since it was made by Rockstar themselves. Advance wasn't, since it wasn't made by Rockstar, only published by them.

Ok I'm going to bump this thread because I would like to see this conversation pick up again.

 

Plus I'm thinking of doing a concept thread, which acts as a sequel to III, and I would like to see whether or not I should consider Advance canon or not.

Yeah, his name is on the Browser version of the database (Not the Car computer.)

 

BUT: Huang visits LC second time during CW. The info of him in Police database are from the year 2005, so the database info wont say it's canon.

 

My opinion: CW is canon. Even though it's not referenced anywhere. I never played Advance, so I dont know about that.

There is a database in the LCPD ingame website that lists crims. Huang Lee is mentioned along with the episodes' protags and main characters.
